I Have most of the grounds, teams and years but the names are quite difficult.
Agree with Shuggie Robertson at 12, think Pat Gardener might be 11, looks like 1968, Scottish cup first round at Parkhead.

only 11 make the team, the rest can just but dream.

Yep, the Beatles getting autograph of Hughie Robertson and another Dundee player from that time.

Number 11 was Pat Gardner's goal at Parkhead when he intercepted a pass back.

All the games were pretty big events- cup ties or European nights.

Jim Gillespie, supersub nicknamed the fife flyer.
He always got 10 mins at the end of the game and never came off the touch line. Head down and like a train down the line, they used to say if you opened the gates he would keep running along Halbeath Rd till he reached Cowdenbeath

Nearly a full house for VEE but he needed help on the Bertie Auld goal which was Number 1.

1. Bertie Auld SCFinal 1965.
Not a good day for Jim Herriott. He missed two high balls and chose the wrong side for Auld’s shot.

2. Was Jim McLean v Valencia but photo never appeared: Probably Jim's only ever goal.

3. Hughie Robertson v Celtic SC 1968.
First shot with right foot blocked, second one beat Simpson.

4. Bobby Lennox 1968.
Both teams wearing white socks for unexplained reason. That was the night we set a record for an attendance at EEP.

5. George Miller v Everton 1962

6. Joe McBride (from resulting penalty) 1966.
That was the famous 5-4 game when Roy punched Joe McBride’s header away from goal. McBride sank the last minute penalty to win the match.

7. Alex Smith v Valencia 1962
It looks like a header but Smithy is trying to keep his feet after steering the ball at goal.

8. Alex McDonald SCsemi replay1968
He gave us plenty of trouble that night and scored a cracker from near the bye line.

9, Jim Gillespie v Aberdeen 1971 A mix up in Aberdeen’s normally watertight defence gave this chance for the only goal of the game, one which possibly cost Aberdeen the league title.

10. Stevie Chalmers SCsemi 1966
He always gave us problems with his speed.

11. Pat Gardner SC 1968
The vital second goal in our 2-0 victory at Parkhead.

12. Hughie Robertson or George Ryden
Ryden was the Ian Ure replacement at centre half. Used to hack down Charlie Dickson. At that time more Dundonians would have recognised Alan Gilzean or even Hughie himself rather than Lennon and McCartney.

Great again sammer. All before my time ( I'm 53) but all the better for that.

I do know that all these players were outstanding.

I should have got no.1 - for some reason I got it into my head that Charlie Gallacher had scored, whereas the chin got two of Celtic’s three goals. It was Gallacher’s long range shot that hit the bar in the first half and landed on Auld for a point blank header.

Had a wee laugh at Norrie for no.7, he was only a year old then.

Ref. the Beatles photo - was that the season Dundee won the league on final Saturday at St. Johnstone ?

The Jim Gillespie image - the season that Alex Wright had the team play in that all white mess with the round badge.

Thanks Sammer. I still have memories of Jim Heriot coming out and getting nowhere near Billy McNeil when he scored the winner with his header. https://za.pinterest.com/pin/132363676527519124/

VEE,

I assume the Beatles photo was October 1963 when they played the Caird Hall. That would be a year after they won the league.

Regarding the 1965 Final I have wondered whether the square Hampden posts and the wind were Herriot's undoing on the first goal. THe Pars were playing with a strong wind behind them in the first half when Gallagher struck a pretty good shot but from 25 yards out you would have expected Herriott to deal with it. I think the strong wind caused the ball to float a little higher than Herriott expected and he failed to get a touch as it hit the top of the bar. Usually shots like that go over the bar, but this time the ball hung around a long time, with the wind making sure it did not go behind the goal.

The white shirt is associated with our years of startling decline. Alex Wright's son told me at the time that his father was persuaded by directors that if he could save money on strips then more would be available for signing players. An all white strip was the cheapest option so that is why it was chosen. Truly, false economy.

That is a very interesting story about the white strip.I thought it was a horrible decision at the time, and always wondered, how that came about.I am 63 now,and it has cleared up something ,that has always bothered me.😃

No, wee eck. The blond lad beside Shuggie is George Ryden.

Thanks for the white shirt story Sammer, I had no idea why it was introduced.

To save a few quid - the club must have been even more skint then than we realised !!!

I mind we couldn't scrape together the £1500 that Dundee United wanted for Kenny Cameron - what a missed opportunity that was to get a proven goal scorer, and he might well have been the catalyst to avoid relegation early 1970's.

Your thoughts on Bertie Auld's header mirror mine exactly - nine times out of ten the ball would have gone behind for a goal kick.

As for Shug Robertson's musical talents...................
