Not seen what he said but he's been brought in to try and stop the knuckle-draggers wanting to batter folk because they went to a school named after a saint.

I've said it before but I think this is just lip service. If Rangers actually meant it then they'd commit to never having an orange strip ever again. The whole "Oh, it's because of Dick Advocat" excuse isn't convincing anyone.

MacDonald is an excellent speaker and tends to look at solving the problem rather than getting angry.

Seemingly the idiots are upset as he said Rangers needs to change and stop being bigoted. According to some of the Rangers support there is no bigotry...

I'll have whatever they're drinking! It's ingrained in the club.

Example from a discussion between Derek Ferguson and Michael Stewart last year about those orange strips.

Stewart: But do you recognise that connotation that has now?

Ferguson: No, I don't. No.

Stewart: You don't?

Ferguson: Because you are wanting to take it in a different direction.

Stewart: That's what we're talking about. That's the exact topic we are discussing.

Ferguson: If you want to take it in that direction, I am giving you my opinion Michael. It's a marketing ploy by Rangers in respect to the Dutch players. That's what I think. It never even crossed my mind so there you go.

Stewart: But you don't think it crosses the mind to a section of the Rangers support?

Ferguson: I don't no, I can't read minds Michael.

That is what Rangers are up against. Complete denial that there's a problem.

Edited to make correction.

You have to laugh at them eh! A club that’s foundation is built on intolerance. They are an embarrassment.

jake89, ot was Derek Ferguson rather than Barry that was involved in that conversation, not that it changes much. You have to wonder sometimes if they are thick, ignorant, deliberately obtuse or a combination of all three.

I heard and remember that interview well. Derek used all of his media training well under great pressure in the interview. Michael Stewart was left exasperated by Ferguson’s refusal to budge from his position.

The very definition of denial is anyone who tries to portray ibrox as free of bigotry and sectarianism

I remember that.

My five year old reading his Mr Men books at bedtime reminds me of some of Fergusons post-match reports when he was on the radio a few years ago. Granted he has got a bit better over time.

Even Alex Ferguson, a protestant, said the situation at Ibrox when he was a player was unacceptable.

He singled out one chap, in particular, the club's PR manager (I can't remember his name) who had it in for him from the day he signed from Dunfermline, simply because his wife was a catholic.

Things at Ibrox seem to have progressed a bit since then - thanks largely to Graeme Souness - but not very much.

The club has changed its name, but sadly the fans are still the same.

The orange strips discussion quickly sorts out the decent Rangers fans from the bigots.

Exactly, 100%.

Their defence of that marketing exercise was laughable - somebody on a radio call in show asked what might happen if a couple of Nigerians were to play for RFC - would the Ibrox beancounters opt for green and white tops to mark their arrival ?

I'll never forget my late father's observation on Rangers' No Catholic players policy - they don't mind taking money off Catholics at the turnstiles though !!!

When bigotry and sectarianism has been ingrained in an institution for nearly 8 years, it is extremely difficult to shift it.

I love it when we go sell Kevin Nisbet,
He's gonna pay for everyone this season.

No, you've got it wrong. They wear them because many years ago they had these Dutch guys who played for them. It was a very special time for them...

Excuse me, Elvis, but a former colleague of mine reassured me that the strip was NOT orange - it's tangerine. Honest!
