Why isn't this being reported elsewhere? Hidden deep in the text it suggests this proposal has been rejected by Championship clubs!

Wee Eck I think that line is saying that Hearts reconstruction proposals have been rejected.

I see what you mean, TWOK. The piece isn't particularly well-written - done in a hurry no doubt.

Why closed doors at the end of October?
This is almost 5 months away and I'd think it is wiser to make this decision nearer the time as we know how far we've progressed with the virus.

That's the end of the furlough period.
Which makes my point even more valid.
Furlough will be over.
They shouldn't be making a decision about fans this early.
Let's see how we are at the end of August or even September and assess the situation then.

Once the players return to training won't furlough be over for them though? To start at the beginning of August won't they need to come off furlough now?

I take it this is assuming covid 19 testing will no longer be required ?
As far as I've been led to believe the cost of testing is prohibitive , and only the richest clubs can afford it .
I honestly can't see football at our level returning before we have a vaccine .

I've no probs starting the season in October, my point is about closed doors games when it might be safe to let fans in by then.
Yes, as for furlough, the players will need 6 weeks pre season training and as I understand it furlough will stop paying 80% in August and reduce it to 60% till the end of October.
I'm hoping in August we can decide if fans are safe to return by October and sell the season tickets to help pay for the costs involved.

Going off topic a bit here but if players are training in an official capicity then I'd imagine furlough wouldn't apply to any percentage of their wage. They will be classed as working surely?

Doesn't matter how the pack is shuffled and dealt - no fans at games is a depressing scenario.

Nothing wrong with posting a date and fixtures and at this point stating being closed doors - that's the reality right now.
Nearer the time that situation can be reviewed with a decision timetabled by a certain date, e.g. end of Aug we will determine if fans can be allowed and already have contingency plans to accommodate most common scenarios of how that could look

As soon as players start training they have to come off the furlough scheme. Not many championship clubs will be able to afford that scenario without income.
Why don’t they make the wearing of masks compulsory at the games to allow fans in. By October we should be in phase 4 of the release plan and being outside and wearing a mask cuts down transmission considerably.

I believe that if you add in the reserve team we have enough players to form a first team plus enough reserves to fill the bench.

Strong enough in comparison to most other teams in the league who are in the same boat other than the usual suspects who'll pihs money up the wall.

Best starting XI we could put out currently would probably be something like;
Gill
Edwards
Lang
Murray
Comrie
McCann
Martin (makeshift central midfielder)
Turner
Dow
McGill
Nisbet
Think that's the best team with players who have first team experience.

We have the base of a good team! Depending on financial situation (applies to all) a few additions/part time and we have a much better team- if we didn't have Corona, in my opinion we would be in a very strong position to push for promotion, it could still be the case.
