Good news, one area we looked pretty solid in last season was that right hand side with him and Dow.

I thought we had exercised an option to extend his contract but the article on COWS says he triggered the option by playing a sufficient number of games during the season. Given the season finished early I wonder what would have happened if he hadn't reached that number - Pro rata?

Good news indeed. Another player with a bright future and hopefully a transfer fee.

How are we able to do this given we have just released so many players because of the ongoing situation?

I presume we had a contractual obligation to offer him a contract if he made the required number of appearances last season. Also, there's nothing to stop clubs offering new contracts if they want to.

That's the way it works. You release out of contract players you don't want and sign new ones you do. Simple really

I'm guessing but it's not too big a stretch of the imagination to say that the bigger picture seems to be becoming clearer and he could have been top of the managers list to retain.

Do you not think we could/should have extended some/all of the following?

Lee Ashcroft
Tom Beadling
Danny Devine
Ryan Scully
Joe Thomson
Paul Paton

Let's be honest, no it would be highly unlikely all the players on your list would get new contracts, one possibly, at a real push three might have, and maybe some turned down extensions?

Anyway, it's done, players leave/join all the time.

Good luck.

Agree ,Some of these players had their chance but didnt take it ,granted a fee had reasonable season such as Paton ,but didnt work out .

its different for Comrie compared to the others, he had the extra year option in his deal, possibly even an automatic one so once the number of games were played it was activated. could say he was lucky in that sense cause he would have gone with all the others if he hadn't, good that he did though and hopefully he can kick on again next season.

as for the released players there were a couple I would have tried to keep, circumstances meant it wasn't possible so on we go, who knows by the time we start trying to add to the squad and playing we might see some of them back.

I wonder as game time approaches if the club might offer contracts to any of the lads we let go.

Comrie also had a sigificantly better season than any of those players. Wouldn't have been fussed if they had all been released under normal circumstances in all honesty

Only maybe 1 of them were good enough. Ashcroft I'd have given a new deal, beading was always injured and never really done anything apart from the celtic goal probably in a good wage better out there. Danny devine played better towards the end of the season but could be better out there with clubs releasing players. Scully was dodgy and again probably one of our higher earners not good enough. Thomson a hard one injured most of the season but didn't look the same when he came back. Paton played well nearer the end but again probably better options out there for cheaper with clubs releasing players

c'mon the pars
