We seem to be acquiring a track record of releasing players who go on to play at a higher level than we could offer them . Byrne, Spence and now Smith are recent examples but didn't we release Colin Nish who went on to better things with Killie and Hibs?

All clubs release players who prosper elsewhere but is it normal for so many to be picked up by clubs playing at a higher level?

Aye we sure do make a fool of ourselves when it comes to releasing players and they sign for somebody in a higher division.

Good luck Callum.

Of the recent examples like Spence, Byrne and now Smith, I’d say the only one that has, and will continue to do well is Byrne. I can’t see Smith being anywhere near the quality for Premiership football, but maybe he’ll prove me wrong. Who knows.

Lewis Spence has played 36 Premiership games since he left the Pars. Some would say that represents progress from his time with us.

Byrne wasn't released ,he chose to leave and went down a division.
Spence was about to sign for Brechin 1 division below us until Neil McCann offered him a deal at Dundee, if McCann wasn't there he wouldn't have been there. 36 games with 2 different teams and released by both.
Nish, did he not leave when we had Crawford and Brewster up front?

don't see it as a track record at all or making a fool of ourselves, you are talking about a tiny percentage overall and of those that are a success even less.

good luck to Smith, personally don't think he is good enough for the championship never mind the premier league.

I don't think Byrne saw how he could develop by staying at EEP. It's hardly an indictment of Spence that McCann had seen enough of him while coaching at the Pars to think that he was worth a contract. That's how football works.

We seem to get promising young players in but for some reason many (most) of them don't make that final step and become established in the first team. Of the present first-team squad only Martin and Gill have come through the ranks and neither is an automatic choice. Maybe Martin's experience shows the benefit of persevering with young players rather than releasing them too early. McCann and Todd show the occasional spark of promise but next season will be crucial for them.

pleased for him, got a raw deal of it here. imagine not getting a look in with the lack of goals our forwards got during season 18/19.

Great move, another player who wasn't deemed good enough for a mid table championship team going to play at a higher level.

GJS93 covers it pretty well I think. We all have different opinions on players, rarely will you find universal agreement on our strongest starting XI for example. I would suggest it is more of a positive than a negative that a few our players end up playing above, at, or just below our level - does it not suggest we are producing some talent? It is a challenge for every club to get players from the youth setup into the first team.

Wasn’t good enough at Alloa or Arbroath either. Some players take longer to develop though so wouldn’t be surprised to see him doing ok at Hamilton off the bench

We are Dunfermline, we're on our way back!

Good luck to him.

Must have a cracking agent. Fair play to the lad and all the best but his record doesn't look the best and can't see him doing it in any devision higher than top league 1 to middle championship. But as stated gold luck to the guy.

c'mon the pars
