 Barrow Going Up
Topic Originator: Stanza
Date:   Wed 17 Jun 21:25

I know most folk on the forum won't care, but I'm delighted that my "other" team (Barrow AFC) will be back in the Football League next season, after a 48 year wait.

It would also be great if Harrogate Town can be promoted through the play-offs, as they deserve to be, finishing 2nd. Josh Falkingham plays for them.

PS Ian Evatt has done a terrific job in his first managerial appointment, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go a lot further.

It’ll be some very welcome good news in a community that has suffered greatly in economic terms over the last years. Barrow has high unemployment and some real deprivation. I hope the team do well on their return to the Football League.

Yes, Workington were a Football League club until 1977. Bill Shankly managed them for a year or so.

Good to see Barrow going up, a proper football team with an old school ground!

Would I be correct that Barrow and Workington (separate seasons) were voted out of the league despite not being bottom?

Used to have to apply for re election, geographically a nightmare to get to.

Barrow were voted out despite being "only" 3rd-bottom, and were replaced by Hereford United, who were only 2nd-top of the Southern Premier League, but were very much in the public eye after their famous FA Cup win over Newcastle.

Workington were bottom when they were voted out, to be replaced by Wimbledon. To be fair, events were to prove that a good decision!

PS Pars favourite Danny Grainger is Workington's current manager.

And just like that - off to Bolton Wanderers. :(

Barrow will be playing Bolton next year, you would never have thought they would be in the same league a couple of years ago

Will Bolton 12 point reduction get carried forward due to them being relegated regardless?

Lost count of the financial mismanagement at that club, like Dundee on steroids.

Bolton were deducted 12 points in the League One season just ended, although their results were so awful it didn't make any difference, they would have been relegated anyway.

They do have a 5-point suspended deduction hanging over them for failure to fulfil fixtures last season, but other than that I can't see why they should be deducted a further 12 points.
