Well normally I'd ask for a source... But you do have a knack of being correct.
Incidentally... Do you want your Bronze Bar sig fixed?
Cos it's not an active link as it stands.

IIRC, he won our POTY and then moved to Ross Co. I’m sure most would be happy to have him back.

Bit of a “he said, she said” but a girl I work with is good mates with his partner. She seems to think they want to move back this way.

Worked his socks off and harried defenders but had a poor second half to his last season here. Apart from working hard and getting wired in there wasn’t much else to his game.

He needs a goalscorer to play with though so if we keep Nesbit that would be ideal, if Nesbit goes and he ends up our main striker along with some young boys we’ll be back to dunfermline nil.

There's no certainty that Nisbet will actually leave. The chairman is clear about the position: if clubs think they can get him on the cheap because of COVID19, they are mistaken. Nisbet could ultimately force our hand if he hands in a transfer request, but he's going nowhere unless the money is right. I can't see clubs in Scotland offering what we want tbh. They all think they can get him on the cheap. It'll be a club down south IMO that will come up with the cash but apparently Nisbet isn't interested in heading down south.

My only complaint about Declan was that he went to ground too easily and too often. A lot of moves that he was involved in resulted in him landing on his backside.

That said, I liked him as a player. He troubled defenders and was always committed to the cause. He would be welcomed back at East End.

That's not what I heard from a former Pars player, Ianoappar. I was told he wanted to stay and asked AJ if he was in his future plans. AJ allegedly replied that that would depend on whether he was able to bring in a better striker or not.

Brutally honest, perhaps, but maybe not what McManus was hoping to hear?

There would be no point of letting Nisbet go for cheap around the 200k mark or whatever, we'd be better of keeping him and hope he scores another 20 goals and shoots us into the play offs.

As for the way Mcmanus left, I heard he was keen to stay and GG, that sounds like an AJ thing to say, nothing but diabolical when it came to player relations and how he dealt with people, Cardle, Falkingham, Faissal etc..

Declan's father was a poster on here for a while and pretty much confirmed what you say, GG.

The lad wanted to stay at EEP, but like Moffat before him, was told he'd have to wait for a contract until the manager had shopped around a bit.

AJ's management style leaves a lot to be desired...

Isn't there a case to be made for a manager being brutally honest with players, particularly at the end of their contracts? Anyway, it worked out fine for McManus with a two-year contract at Ross County, no doubt on much better terms than we could offer him.

Some players might appreciate knowing there was a chance they might get an offer if other things didn't work out.

There's a tendency on here to side with players when it comes to contracts. We had it a few weeks ago when we released 17 players. The fact is footballers are in a stronger position nowadays than they have ever been when it comes to contracts and clubs like ours are usually negotiating from a position of weakness. Look what happened with Morris, Clark and Aird.

There's no sure fire right way to carry out these negotiations. Wee eck is correct when he suggests that we tend to side with the players, especially if we rate them, but there are so many external factors* that the clubs are usually in a weaker position.

*Agents, interest from other clubs, offers of longer contracts (real or imagined) etc.

If the AJ story is true, you can't criticise his honesty. He might have been more diplomatic, which is just another way of saying he should have been devious and dishonest.

Not the best analogy, Thaipar. Teachers on a permanent contract are lucky enough to have a job for life, unless they do something really dodgy - besides, I wasn't saying AJ behaved impeccably. I said you couldn't fault his honesty.

Two wrongs don't make a right but what about those players who are offered a contract but delay signing in the hope that their agent will get them a better deal elsewhere?

I give you Aird, Morris, Clark and Faiss during AJ's time at EEP.

According to the SPFL Stats Centre, he scored 19 goals in 26 games, which is pretty respectable.

When he was at the Pars in 2017-18, he scored 7 goals in 32 appearances.

the daily record quotes are taken from a q & a filmed with the falkirk chairman on tuesday or wednesday.

"Declan was a fantastic player for us last season, obviously with the amount of goals he scored but also his effort, workrate and application was fantastic.

We’d love to keep him but other clubs, I’m sure, will want him as well."

bit of a jump from that to suggest he is signing for them, livipar.

I agree he was prolific last season and would be delighted if he could do something similar with us this year - my point was that the “third” division is where he is most comfortable - how many did he score for Ross County in their promotion season?

I don’t know the stats but I’d bet Nicky Clark easily outscored him in the Championship for us.

You don’t sign McManus in the championship to get you a lot of goals. It’s his athleticism at this level that’s useful, run the channels, hold the ball up and bring others into play is something he’s good at.

Drop down a level and he’s able to add goals to that.

Just as clark would ideally be better at those parts of the game(often criticised for only scoring goals) McManus would get more goals.

The guys that can do both(nisbit, shankland etc) are very rare and don’t hang about for very long at this level.

How can Falkirk offer him a new deal when there appears to be a consensus to mothball Leagues 1 and 2 next season? Has the thinking moved now that the reproductive rate of Covid-19 has fallen significantly in Scotland?

Happy if he signs as an improvement on Andy ryan etc but can’t see him scoring many at this level, works his socks off but you should not rely on him for goals.

Declan will out pace many midfielders and defenders in the Championship. If he signs we will witness a good few goals from him. Was sad when he went in 2018, his scoring ratio per game was 1 goal in every 4 starts, not the best but proved with Falkirk he can do it at lower level with around 2 goals in every 3 starts. Of course the add on is he helped create many other opportunities to score.

He would be a decent signing and his work rate and effort are beyond doubt but his decision making and goal rate was highly questionable last time round. He has done it in the Seaside Leagues but we know how that worked out for Faiss in his last spell with us.

Pars11 has he gained a few years of pace? What’s different from the last time he was here and didn’t score many And certainly never outpaced many. Mcmanus is a good player To have if your happy to stay in the championship but you need that extra quality if you want to compete in the playoffs. Swap Nesbit for mcmanus last season and we’ll you can imagine the difference. Nesbit and mcmanus would be decent tho! Mcmanus useful for dropping back when we don’t have the ball.

Haven’t seen dowds but I’m not sure you can compare his scoring record to mcmanus last season given the clubs they were at. If faz was playing at east fife do you think he would have rattled in as many as he did for us that season?

Playing 45 games for the team who walked the league isn't great stuff cos he only scored 5 goals? Really? I'd say the fact he played 45 games showed he did his job and did it well. Pretty much like when he was here before.

Regardless, the opinion that you need better quality than McManus to compete in the playoffs is mental considering a team used him to win the league.

Never saw him as an out and out striker rather the second striker doing the horse work rather effectively.

Grant that Ross county team had some great players in it. Billy McKay, mullin, gardyne, Cowie, Draper, vigurs, Graham, Stewart.

They were strong all over the park. He Played 45 games and was joint 6th top goalscorer is nothing to shout about.

Decent player at this level, but that’s about it, great workrate to win it back but suspect with the ball at his feet.

If he’s a replacement for Nesbit then it’s worrying. If he’s not then all good!

I know, a squad full of all of those good players, didn't score that many goals and played in just about every game. No idea what the manager was thinking? It's almost as if he was contributing to the team in other ways.

Berkey, Years of pace, very unsure what that means, if relating to sport and fitness it does not make sense. Obvious difference if Declan returns he is only 25 with good experience gained at Ross County and Falkirk. I am right behind Stevie Crawford and an obvious need to change, last season we ended up mid table, this coming season the league will be tighter with fewer games played. I hope the October league start occurs to give all we sign a chance to blend in. Conjecture may be fine, I prefer fact. Anyway we all need to get behind the team and the manager and hope we can be allowed to attend home games.

You miss me da?

I am behind this signing as he’s better than McGill and Ryan that’s for sure. We play 442, I don’t think he’s a winger and not a main striker at this level so would be perfect up top with a goalscorer.

If this is you happy.....FFS

He seems to have followed the money like most pros but he has often been loaned out to clubs in lower leagues whilst presumably enjoying higher wages from his 'host' club. He was loaned out when he was at Aberdeen, Fleetwood and Ross County. In fact I think the Pars are the only club who haven't loaned him out. He must have a good agent.

Why on earth would you rather Dowds than McManus? Makes absolutely no sense.

McManus is about as good a striking signing as we'll get this season, he's a little bit older, wiser, better and this division is weaker than the last time he played for us in it. Would be a great signing.

Why would you get excited about signing an unknown striker from League 1? McManus played 30 odd games in the Championship winning team a year ago and is still relatively young so he must be doing something right.

Declan McManus - 25 years old, 8 clubs (including loans)
Kevin Nisbet - 23 years old, 6 clubs (including loans)

It’s just the way of the world nowadays where players at this level are at a different club every season.

Hope he does sign. A good pro with a good work ethic and a genuine fondness if the Pars.

He might not be prolific in front of goal but I am sure he would chip in with a few and create many assists.....for whoever he is paired with up front.

I just hope the lads are keeping fit and managing some socially distant kickabouts. Declan McManus and big Nisbet would make a formidable strike force and I always liked Turner in the midfield. He seemed a good mate of Kevin Nisbet and that's always a good thing in a team. Still too much uncertainty yet though.
