Guys like Fernandinho and David Silva didn't make it as, whilst still very good players, age has caught up with them, to an extent.

Put De Bruyne in the middle, David Silva left and Bernardo right and my team would be the same as yours.

Allison

Alexander-Arnold
Van Dijk
Laporte
Robertson

De Bruyne
Henderson
Bernardo Silva

Salah
Firmino
Mane

Hard to pick but I would rather have Firmino over Aguero because Firmino is such a grafter. He’s so underrated and won’t stop running all game. You would have an amazing bench to choose from also!

BBC had something similar-picked players based on the peak of their powers and what they have done in the English game

My team there was

Ederson(would be equally happy with Alisson)

Alexander Arnold
Kompany
Van Dijk
Robertson

David Silva
De Bruyne
Fernandinho-toughest position for me to pick, Henderson would make it on this season's form and is favourite for player of the year, Wijnaldum also had a good season and ditto Fabinho although he has played less games. Love Bernardo Silva as a player too but he seems to have been left out a fair bit this season? He would be one of the first names on the teamsheet for me although I don't watch City every week.

Mane
Aguero
Salah

No Owen or Rush or Barnes or Fowler?

<<No Owen or Rush or Barnes or Fowler?>>

They were all considered, of course, but I had to have some City players in the team!

Owen, Rush or Fowler could have all taken Rodney Marsh's spot. I would always have Heighway over Barnes, much as I admire them both.

Liverpool getting an absolute schooling .

To be fair they’ve won the league. The extra bit of intensity needed in these games normally, won’t be there. I’m pretty sure Klopp will have told them to be competitive but not too competitive. Picking up injuries in a meaningless game would be daft.

Yeah let's not go too deep.... The titles won. City are making a point... And fair play to them.
Personally I don't care if Liverpool lose all their remaining games this season.

Don't think Liverpool got much of a break in front of goal, Mane had a bit of a nightmare and City can give anyone a hammering.

I'd only put Allison in goal before Ederson because my back 4 are mainly from Liverpool, so they'd have a better understanding.

Allison

Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Laporte, Robertson

De Bruyne, Henderson, Bernardo

Salah, Aguero, Mane

Left out some quality players....... :-(

Embarrassing from Liverpool, had they won the narrative would be that it’s the sign of true champions that they don’t let off.

City have two competitions still to play for as well as securing second, if either side should have taking it easy it’s them.

I thought Liverpool were pretty competitive. Created plenty of opportunities but were completely off it when it came to converting them.

When City are on song, they're pretty ruthless too. All in all, I didn't think it was a typical 4-0 hammering.

Will be interesting to see if Klopp can sustain this level of performance. His final season at Dortmund was a total disaster...

Man City were deserving winners but the main difference was the finishing. Mane had a nightmare and should have definitely scored at least one.Robertson also had a nightmare and sold a couple of goals.Liverpool had more possession(can't be many teams that have achieved this at the Etihad) Man City had 14 shots to 11-hardly embarrassing.I thought Liverpool started the game as the better team. If you spend all week partying in a hotel and then go to City a defeat is always on the cards.City must have a half decent chance of winning the Champions League.

Foden looks some player looking forward to seeing him get a regular game next season hopefully.

Based on absolutely no evidence, I think that City's European ban will get reduced from 2 years to 1 on appeal. I just figure that it will be a compromise which saves face for UEFA and placates City against trying to tie them in knots in court.

If that happens, I think they'll be able to convince the majority of their players to stay and, if so, I can't see anyone getting near them next season - Liverpool included.

What Klopp and Liverpool have done in the last couple of seasons is incredible but everything has gone for them this season regards grinding out results and City dropping points when they really shouldn't have.

A rational, balanced and accurate post.

Some folk on here appear to watch Premiership games through Man U tinted specs.

Not the whole season. Bottom of the league in January he made the players face the wrath of the yellow wall after defeat to Augsburg for 10 minutes.
BVB never lost another game and secured a Europa League spot plus final of the German Cup.
Hardly a total disaster....

Interesting to see if Man City can get Laporte fit and bring in at least one top rate defender to play alongside him, think it will be abit different next season.

Not really. It's suggesting that Liverpool were actually better than the score line suggested.

It's challenging the narrative that City completely dominated them. Fact is though, City won 4-0 and it should have been 5 at the end, so deserve praise for carving them open and being ruthless.

To be fair that's happened in a few games between the sides. The scoreline has sometimes looked decisive and hasnt always reflected the balance of play and chances created.

Both teams have got so much quality going forward that results like that can happen both ways. Were City 4 better than Liverpool last night on balance of play? Possibly not but they were clinical in their finishing so you cant knock it. Same applies to some of the games Liverpool have won. The scoreline have sometimes made look liverpool more dominant than they will.

I agree with Diagos fudge on the UEFA ruling and have been saying that for ages.

Nah, the few City fans on here, like LPF, are very objective. United and Liverpool fans, on the other hand, never miss a chance to snipe at the enemy, no matter how unjust and undeserved any criticism may be.

Folk can support whoever they like, but the one eyed stuff in both directions among those who support Liverpool and Man U gets a bit tiresome.

I watched the City game last night and they were deserved winners, no question, but if Salah's early effort had gone in, we might have had a very different game.

I also think that if City had still been in the title race, Liverpool would have adopted a much more cautious approach and we'd have probably seen a low scoring draw.
