Home games live on PPV stream?
Topic Originator: DRreturns

I know this has been discussed on other threads in some capacity but was wondering if anyone has any info on this happening? I know the technology is being installed in order for season ticket holders to watch but will it be available to non season ticket holders?

I’m here to take over!!

I think it's a fair question

Seeing as the premier teams only announced their arrangements this week for a start on Saturday we might need a bit more time. Some premier teams are still not sure who'll be able to watch.

What interested me, in the last week, was the fact Premiership fans will be able to watch their club on the IPad or computer etc PPV at their Away matches.

To me this is win win.

I am not going to go on a trek up to eg Inverness CT (unless it is the game which gives us the flag) but would, gladly, pay to watch the Pars there on the screen.

at the permission of the home team only. Hibs not allowing Killie fans to watch game from easter road for example.

This will have some discussion...

The rule has always been for 'reciprocal rights'.

I suppose Killie would have the rights (but maybe not the ability?) to rock up with their own streaming gear and broadcast to their own fans?

I'm actually very surprised that the league hasn't taken the opportunity to make a centralised offering, with all Premier matches available.
Assuming that there is still an OB truck at each game, satellite delivery to a central streaming point would be absolutely simple.

This was on the 'wish-list' of the SPL as far back as 2004, (I quoted them for it) but then, probably as now, blocked by the gruesome twosome who want to keep all the revenue raised from their fans.

No chance. This is a temporary thing, whilst crowds are not allowed/restricted within stadiums. The only team allowed to broadcast this in the UK should be the home team, as the idea is surely to replace the ticket revenue that they would otherwise receive. For example, imagine this happened when we play Hearts. We sold say 500 streams to our fans (non-season ticket holders) and 4,000 Hearts fans paid Hearts for the pleasure, whereas usually we’d be getting the ticket money of 4,000 Hearts fans. How would that be fair? That would kill clubs, who are used to budgeting for bigger away supports (think top flight clubs expecting old firm to visit). Would just increase the financial gulf between the old firm and the rest.

Agreed.

But, if home teams are not able or willing to allow away fans to watch?

It is 'only' Killie - but can you imagine the abuse and threats if any club dare to block one of the OF from watching?

I was at someone's house on a Saturday afternoon earlier in the year, and to my surprise he said 'do you want to watch The Pars match' and switched it on. Some kind of dodgy stream through an Amazon stick or something

I shouldn't say this 🙈

If someone buys the stream they can re-stream it out again (we don't want that as its against our Terms and Conditions, it's piracy)

To combat this we review the purchasers. At one point we did prevent one, from a middle -eastern country, of them purchasing subsequent streams. So hopefully that specific route was shut down

I did know someone who told me they had the stream at one point but it then disappeared a few weeks later.

I also saw that sky had shut down some pirate servers within Europe
so we are doing what we can to combat this.

Am I right in thinking that while we can't get into the ground, season ticket holders will be entitled to free streaming of the games?

We may not have to worry about this......14th September looks to be the date for sports stadia with limited spectators.

Lux, yes agree. ;o)

if you have more info on Fire sticks, Kodi etc then I'd be interested.
It would be good to get them legally on these devices.

DBP, yes thats my understanding. if there are no crowds then season ticket hodlers will get access for free on ParsTV.

access for "free" actually being £17.85, the per game price your season ticket cost.

answer to the OP is in this weeks Press, comments from Ross McArthur on the subject that there will be PPV access to non season ticket holders and away fans for games at EEP. the pricing will be in line with season ticket prices so it will be what PP mentions above or close to it.
