Hi all,

Has anyone heard if we have played or have any friendlies/bounce games lined up. Not heard even a whisper from the Pars management???. Would've thought with a few weeks ago till 1st game we'd have something arranged.

Pars forever...not just for Christmas!!!

The manager explained the situation on the club's official website on 10 Sep:

This year everyone is asking when these are going to be possible but even the manager has chopped and changed opponents, dates and venues in such a way that he cannot go public in saying when friendlies will happen.

“We have five games organised but there is protocol and guidelines that change continually. The door may open to enable us to play a bounce game amongst ourselves but at this moment in time we are restricted and cannot play eleven v eleven football even amongst ourselves. That is down to the guidelines that we are having to respect.”

Is there a reason we're holding off with friendlies when that's the best way to get pre season match fitness??

Aye - and then tried to take the result to the High Court for arbitration.

I'm not sure to be honest there must be a COVID related reason but not sure how Kelty, Rovers, Falkirk, Stenny and many others have managed and we haven;t. Some are in their 2nd or 3rd games !

Ross Hart in "The Dunfermline Press" Page 55 reports Stenhousemuir on Saturday 19th; Spartans on Tuesday 22nd and East Fife on Saturday 26th.

These are all away and behind closed doors.

A week later Dunfermline hope to play Rangers second team and an away Friendly with Stirling Albion.

Club should stream these friendlies, I would personally be willing to pay £5-£10 to watch them.

pars tv might not be allowed in to stream any of them although it looks like East Fife were at Stenny the other night, East Fife themselves might stream our game too.

setting the bar high lol, what do you expect!

Maybe a couple of games against teams at the same level or better. To give the team a bit of a test against opposition comparable to teams we will face in a month's time.

Have you considered the fact that friendlies against such teams might not be as readily available as you think? It's apparent that for whatever reason games at East End just now aren't possible so potentially this is the reason for not playing teams in the same league.

Even without COVID playing a part, friendlies serve one purpose and that is match fitness so it doesn't matter if we play Spartans or Man United the desired outcome is the same.

East Fife will be of a similar standard to much of what we face this season and Rangers could put out a reserve squad that would scud us.

Teams can't/won't travel far. The season has started for the Premier League and English clubs, you don't want to play teams in your own division so not many options left after that.

East Fife will be nowhere near the standard of any team in this league. Not that it matters, friendlies are about fitness and building on pitch understandings.

Is that the East Fife who have strengthened and knocked Hearts, Dundee Utd and Morton out of the cups last year?

Streaming home friendlies would be a good idea to iron out technical difficulties, before real games.

No teams play against teams in the same division. Clearly for obvious reasons so that removes the championship teams.

Premier league teams are back playing so again other than there reserve teams no option either.

Sometimes a little thought before posting might help.

All clubs should have a 'covid bubble' in place and in most cases when it comes to streaming, ie; Pars TV ect, the 'bubble' might not include them. It would be nice for those who have seen any training to update us.

only 11 make the team, the rest can just but dream.

The one that finished fifth in league one yes. Anyone can look at one off cup games or cherry pick certain games to suit an agenda but over the course of a season the table doesn't lie. They would be Brechin-esq in the championship.

Lucky for them they are only playing us once then...

Danny Swanson is a good signing for them, Young seems a decent manager and personally I think they could be more Alloa or Arbroath-ESQUE.

5th in League one is literally 5 places below the level of our league, Rovers are up, Falkirk are in our cup group so we are playing the 3rd highest team possible outwith our 'level'.If that constitutes being 'nowhere near the standard of any team in our league' I'd like to hear your suggestions. Rovers had 3 one-off games against them last year and won one(5-3) as did Falkirk in their 3 matches against them.
There isn't a huge gulf in the 2 divisions to be honest(or the top half of League 1 anyway). Ayr, Alloa , Arbroath, Livingston. Morton and ourselves have all been promoted from there in the last 3 or 4 years and held our own. Brechin were an anomaly and that's why they find themselves in League 2(fortunately for them) Is there a huge difference in class between Arbroath(who finished above us) and East Fife?-I would argue not. There is a difference but not a chasm.

Last teams promoted from League One
2019 Arbroath 5th in Championship last season
2018 Ayr United 4th last 2 seasons Alloa
2017 Livingston (Premier League) Brechin
2016 Dunfermline
2015 Morton
2014 Sevco
2013 Queen of the South

Dumbarton were pretty honking nearly every time I saw them and they lasted 5 years in the Championship
