Will be interesting to see what team Clarke puts out tonight.

The whole right side of our team has been decimated, Christie, Burke, Paterson, Armstrong ,Palmer all missing.

Don’t like us playing 3 at the back but I don’t think he has much choice tonight.

If were to go 442 or 4141 then who would be getting wide and getting crosses in ? Fraser on the left, maybe McLean on the right?

Would prefer us under the circumstances to go with

Marshall
Cooper. Gallagher. Porteous
O Donnell/Taylor Robertson
Jack

McGregor McGinn

Fraser

Dykes

Think we will struggle with the players we have missing..

Can't really be much worse than what we've seen recently . We might even blunder into a decent formation .

I also worry about us tonight defensively. Probably forced into a 442 with Gallagher and O’Donnell forced into playing. They haven’t exactly been solid for Motherwell.

We are Dunfermline, we're on our way back!

Am I the only one who misses a manager “bigging up” the game. Where they would talk about how big a game it is and how they are gonna get tore in about each other? After watching Clarke getting interviewed I have about as much passion for this as Alloa vs Brechin.

An under-19 friendly between England and Scotland on Thursday was abandoned during the first half after the visitors. head coach Billy Stark tested positive for Covid-19.

Hosts England led 3-1 in the game at St George.s Park when it was halted.

The Scottish FA said Stark tested negative when the squad met up, but a second round took place on Thursday before a scheduled re-match on Sunday.

He will now "travel home in isolation and will self-isolate for 10 days".

"The playing group and the rest of the backroom team will undertake precautionary self-isolation for 14 days, whilst the Scottish government undertakes a formal risk assessment to assess who Stark was in close contact with during the camp," a Scottish FA statement said.

Scotland Under-19s second game against England on Sunday has now been postponed along with the scheduled Under-17s match at St. George.s Park on Saturday.

As much as I like Steve Clarke, the more games we play, I fear he is out of his depth here. We look poor and don’t seem to have a clue how to trouble teams. We made a massive mistake letting Strachan go just when we were looking capable of achieving something with him.

So, 100 minutes of international football between two (relatively) well matched teams and according to BBC stats there’s been one shot on target .... and that, I believe, was from an Israeli defender.

Blimey .... do either of these teams actually know ‘how to play football’?

Yeah Serbia will roast us next month I think. Only bonus is a possible full squad but let's just enjoy a first ever penalty shoot out involving Scotland and plenty time for the expected dire predictions.

We have found out level now. Of that there is no doubt but I won't criticise the players who played as clearly they all tried their best and showed fighting spirit in patches.
We really lack leadership and quality though and some knowhow and as I say this can't be put at the feet of these players by and large untested at an international level bar the obvious few.

Get behind them.

We.re in a one off , winner takes all, match that if we win gets us to the Euros.. a bit of perspective is needed here I think. We.re unbeaten in 6. We have good players to come back. Not a fan of Gallagher but he did well tonight. Likewise McToniney who is adapting to the back 3 role he doesn.t play for his club. Gallagher was good tonight too. I must say though that the best player on the pitch was their no 2 Dasa - he was fantastic all night. Made Andy Robertson look ordinary.
Can we beat the Serbs on their patch - why not.? Let.s give it a damn good shot

At least Clarke has confirmed there will be call ups for the next two games. Surely Nisbet and Griffiths are a must? Two goalscorers who would give defences nightmares. I know Griffiths has only played one game but he is still Scotland’s best striker, when fit.

To be fair, I thought mctominay played alright last night. I think fleck should be given a game to see what he can do as we lack any creativity. Also, without being biased, Nisbett has to be included soon. I like Steve Clarke but I’m starting to question his decisions at times. Just play a simple formation with the best players in their preferred positions. Serbia are going to bully us big time so we need to find a way to deal with that and punting high balls isn’t going to work against any Eastern European team.

Been impressed by Palmer at RB. He is the best option we have there just now, let’s hope he is fit and available for the Serbia game.

Don’t think Jack and McLean bring anything to the team. We need Forrest, a fit Fraser and Christie. Armstrong is also a better bet than Jack or McLean.

CB options are looking better than they have for a while.

Maybe Griffiths will be back in the reckoning soon ?

Kudos to Iceland.

Scored more goals in 90 minutes than we had shots on target in 120. and they were playing stronger opposition than us.

Personally I find it difficult to get excited about mediocrity and would rather watch Scotland, or the pars, lose to a team playing better football than subscribe to “a win is a win” philosophy.

Football in Italy went down that path decades ago, and drawing an Italian side in Europe pretty much guaranteed two matches of stealth, frustration and even boredom.

I also recall Bertie Auld’s Partick Thistle, omg ...... soooo depressing.

Solomon ? (Israel no'11) was my pick of the players on show, tricky and full of energy. Agree about Ryan Jack though, poor performance although he managed to get the Man of The Match award on the BBC Sport poll 😮. Can only think it was hordes of the rangers fans taking the p*** with their votes.

CalMac has been pretty much a waste of a shirt for ages for Scotland. McTominay actually played OK last night I felt, as did most of the defence. Still think it's about time Robertson was dropped and give Tierney a shot at left back. Robbos crosses and general play for us have been terrible honestly

Neil McCann did a decent analysis piece on Sportscene last night. Robertson.s space ahead of him kept getting closed off by poor runs from our own midfielders.

Gadgie59,

Two Scottish managers who embraced Italian catenaccio were Pat Quinn at East Fife and Bertie Auld at Partick. They both played a back four with a sweeper behind- Davie Clarke at East Fife and Alan Hansen at Partick. It made for grim viewing. The attacking ploy was to boot a long ball in the direction of two front men- usually a target man and a runner- and hope they might win a corner. Or in the case of Joe Hughes at EEP force an own goal from Willie Callaghan, when I’m pretty sure Hughes was the only East Fife player in the Dunfermline half. Driech days indeed.

Clarke’s football has been close to mogadon level thus far and Serbia will likely be a bridge too far. However if he takes us through, surely the Scottish team will be forced to respond to a higher level of competitive football and emerge stronger as a result. We haven’t developed much by sitting on the sidelines since 1998.

Why the hell have we just called up Considine and Paul McGinn? No strikers or wingers? Absolute joke.

Yes sammer ... the teams you mention did make for grim viewing. A certain degree of irony that Bertie Auld, a Lisbon Lion, should embrace a style that Jock Stein is given considerable credit for over turning.

Another aspect of football’s negative side was the battle that subsequently took place between Jock Stein’s Celtic and Racing Club of Argentina. A prime example of why I cannot subscribe to either “win at any cost” nor “a win is a win”. today history does not paint Racing Club in a favourable light .... a dark day for the beautiful game indeed.

“Football is a beautiful game,
It should be played beautifully.”

Paul Hanlon called up due to Robertson being suspended for the Czech game.

Dykes and McBurnie are the main strikers and with Fraser able to play in behind and Shankland already capped and in the squad explains why Nisbet has not been called up.

Next squad? He must be in with a good chance.
