 Available strikers
Topic Originator: bencrawfordd

I think it’s fair to say that we’d all like to see another striker added to the pack this January, with Lewis McCann getting valuable game time out on loan.

Some early options (not all very attractive, I know) are:
• Gavin Reilly - released by Carlisle and looking for a club in Scotland
• St Mirren strikers - Jonathan Obika, Junior Morias, Lee Erwin - all potentially available for other teams due to Eamonn Brophy being signed by Saints
• Bruce Anderson - didn’t work out at Ayr and has been recalled by Aberdeen. Doubt McInnes will use him effectively. Could Stevie get the best out of him, like he did previously?
• Cammy Smith - deal running out at Ayr. Always liked him and would be a versatile attacking option.

Brophy hasnt signed yet.

Erwin, Anderson and Smith have all played for 2 clubs this season and cannot play for a 3rd.

Is that the case if we bought any of them?

If we were looking for a striker, wouldn`t it be someone who could play as a `target man` rather than someone similar to McManus or O`Hara? I think McCann may have surprised a few people with his performance at ICT. Maybe he`s worth persevering with.

Completely irrelevant, but slightly spooky that I signed Brophy for St Mirren in FIFA before they did in real life. Great goalscorer...in FIFA.

As much as I think their clubs would be reluctant to send the players out on loan, Jamie Gullan or Louis Appere would be two I’d take on loan

The Carlisle announcement said that Reilly had received the opportunity to go somewhere that he has consistently played and scored goals in the past. That rules us out.

As mentioned above, we could attempt to sign Erwin, Anderson or Smith. But they wouldn’t be allowed to play for us until next season so would be pointless. My understanding of the Brophy deal is that it’s a pre-contract he has agreed with St Mirren. So I doubt they’d want to offload current strikers until he joins in the summer. Especially Obika, who is a regular starter for them.

I guess in summary, I don’t think any of the above would be realistic options for us. Maybe Morias, if St Mirren are looking to offload him. But that’s unlikely unless they agree a deal to bring in Brophy this month - which I doubt Killie will want to happen.

I think the Reilly ‘consistently scored at’ line in the reports was more aimed at the level of football (Championship/League One), rather than a specific club. Saying that, he’s probably most likely to end up at a previous club such as Queen of the South.

Take on board the replies regarding the rest of the players. Got those a tad wrong on the logistical side of any move we could make.

another option will be McGill comes back as the 3rd striker and they bring in another wide player, all depends who is available and within the budget.

Gavin Reilly? Please no. Totally gutless.
Agree more of a target man needed if McCann not ready.

Let`s plunder the Wee Team and take either Duku or Ugwu off their hands. Both fit the profile of what we are missing upfront. Also, let`s take Daniel Armstrong while we are at it. The perfect cover for Dow and Thomas at the moment.

Are all these Raith players out of contract or are we depending on there being flaws in their contracts as with Nisbet? I`m not sure about Ugwu either. Would he be fighting with McManus and O`Hara over the penalties?

Haha, forgot about the penalties, wee eck. Okay, scrub Ugwu out.

The other two would be fine, though. Maybe a little money would need to change hands, but I suspect that it wouldn`t be much.

I’d take Count Duku! It’s a proper penalty box striker we need - McManus and O’Hara tend to get back and help out in the middle of the park which has sometimes left us no one up front on a breakaway.

I can see Reilly doing well at Livi. They somehow seem to get the best out of players. I still can`t believe Robinson (who was on trial with us at league one) is one of their main midfielders. Byrne also seemed to step up massively when he moved there too.

Agreed Ross. Was thinking that about Robinson. If you’d have said that he would be the player from our 15/16 title winning season that would be playing week in week out in top 6 SPFL side, I’d have thought you were on glue.

I didn't actually realise it was the same guy until now. It did cross my mind, but I quickly dismissed the possibility it could be. I would have assumed that guy would have tumbled down the leagues before giving it up. Quite a turn around

Apparently - according to a reputable poster on Pie & Bovril - this rule has been amended for the current season and you can play for 3 teams this campaign.

This is according to Skyline Drifter, on the Ayr United thread.

Potentially good news for us and other clubs this Transfer Window. 👍

and not for the first time he is right and im wrong ;)

it is true and is correct so that does open up potentially a handful more options, Smith and Anderson would be the most obvious if we are after a forward.

Lee Erwin that is at St Mirren with them signing Quarner and Brophy

Duku is a shout, Kane Hester, Bruce Anderson, Cammy Smith.

Maybe a pre contract or 2

Nicky Clark would be great but I`d say highly unlikely as I can`t see Utd letting him go without offering a new deal and I don`t think he was appreciated at East End. One of the best natural strikers we`ve had in the last 20 years.

Would like to see Cammy Smith come in, always impressed me.

Utd are holding off on offering new deals to any player cause of the wage cuts, unless its silly money Dundee are offering id expect Clark to stay in the Premier.

"another option will be McGill comes back as the 3rd striker and they bring in another wide player, all depends who is available and within the budget"

Smith would be that wide player or no10 plus they might as well bring all the loanees back until the end of the month to have the extra bodies.
the bottom 3 leagues can do loans in February so sending them back out and/or McCann will still be on option if the leagues are back playing that is.

another random name if we were after a striker and a bigger type, George Oakley that was at Inverness and Hamilton is a free agent after leaving a club in Bulgaria i think it was.

Clark is a quality player, guaranteed to get goals. 8 goals already in the Premiership this season, and Uniteds top scorer. I can't see why they wouldn't want to keep him, and I'm pretty sure if he was to leave there would be half a dozen top flight teams who would jump at the chance to sign him
