probably 4132 again, conditions and the size of the opposition will have played a part in the selection also.

I was very struck by the size of the Morton team last time out, everyone of them seemed to be over 6ft and quite well built. They also kept their shape really well - will be a tough one on a very heavy pitch.

Quite a strong bench we have.

SUBS: Kevin O’Hara, Kyle Turner, Fraser Murray, Lewis Mayo, Kerr McInroy, Matthew Todd, Cammy Gill (GK)

Morton have left a few experienced players on their bench but no sign of Muirhead.

MORTON: Aidan McAdams: Michael Ledger, Markus Fjørtoft, Sean McGinty c), Lewis Strapp: Reece Lyon, Rabin Omar, Cameron Salkeld, Luca Colville, Aidan Nesbitt, Kalvin Orsi
SUBS: Kyle Jacobs, Jim McAlister, Gary Oliver, Craig McGuffie, Alexander Easdale, Darren Hynes, Lewis McGrattan

Strong side, can only think stevie thinks Kyle is a bit lightweight hence starting with Whitaker

As Wetherby points out morton look like a Bert Paton side

East End Park is a symbol of all that is DAFC.

Iain Wilson best player on the park so far, I don’t get Lewis McCann though, I assume he’s in the team tonight for his height but he’s poor in the air. I was excited first time he got into the first team as he looked like he had a bit of everything; pace, size and strength, good touch but since then he’s done very little. Just doesn’t get involved enough. That’s not based on tonight, pitch is minging so most will struggle but I’ve yet to see him really push on, he’s a young man with time on his side though so fingers crossed he comes good. I’d be taking him off though for another midfielder

If it were any one other than us playing ,

Thomas's crosses are a bit hit or miss and why we try to dribble when in possession is beyond me .

Funny how different people see the game, Wilson has been poor IMO.

I'd get McCann off and get Turner on next to McManus. Would be looking at Fraser Murray for Wilson on the 65m mark if nothing changes.

Zero ideas tonight. Like we’re just hoping something will happen rather than try and create something. Whittaker and Wilson doesn’t work in centre mid.. both of them run like their towing a caravan. Not sure what it is that McCann actually does.. never a championship forward.

Only one side were going to win it in the end, and we were away to the side 4th in the league.

Thomas poor again thought McCann worked hard for the team..Turner on the bench probably away at end of season with Murray, take the point and move on.

better team over 90 minutes but just never got that break which was needed in those conditions, take the point and move on assuming there is a game next week although the plus point if there is a suspension is not having to read the match threads.

I only saw the last twenty mins, we looked well on top and could have scored 3 goals. I don't think fon Williams touched the ball in the time I watched.

I wouldn’t criticise Thomas too much Dow was just as ineffective. Bit more composure near the end and we could have stole a goal. Been brutal for weeks but thankfully Morton are worse.

Thought we looked more fluid when Turner came on. Actually managed to string 3 or 4 passes together.
Seemed quite a big handball shout and given there was a camera right behind it I was disappointed not see a replay.
I'd have Edwards as mom.

Agree about Turner. Just wish he added a few goals to his game.

I was very happy with our performance.
Fon Williams had nothing to do.
We pressed and couldn't find that killer pass but tbh a point there is something I would take beforehand.

We showed we are easily better than them and I'll look at the positives rather than the predictable negatives I read on here.

I agree AAPS. Maybe I just get too excited watching the Pars but all things considered I thought we did ok. We tried to play football, we’re solid in defence and midfield and created a few chances. Too many people are spoilt by endless EPL and champions league football IMO and seem to expect the same from us.

Think from all the points made it's a safe assumption we look a lot better and more balanced as a team playing 4-5-1 with Turner and two holding midfielders sitting.

Thought Wilson was our best player tonight.

Doesn't help with the BBC presenter slagging the game at every opportunity I guess.
Didn't take the conditions or pitch into consideration.

Well, that wasn`t a great watch but there were mitigating circumstances. Both teams probably haven`t been able to train properly for a few weeks and the pitch was not conducive to crisp passing.

I said before the match that a point would be ok, but on reflection, that felt more like two points dropped. I`m sure the boys will be disappointed, driving back along the M8?

If Jonathan Sutherland had said `it wasn`t a classic` or something similar one more time I think I would have screamed.

They kept on saying how well Morton defended but so did we. They only had 4 shots and none was on target. The pitch was shocking especially that patch just to the left of the camera position. That, and a bit of ring-rustiness from not having played for almost three weeks, meant it was hard to get any rhythm going.

I reckon we haven`t lost away from home since Morton beat us 3-2 at Cappielow just over a year ago.

Definately lacked a bit of creativity with Turner on the bench, Turner and Dow were quiet in the final 3rd.

But a point at Cappielow is not to be sniffed at if we can follow it up with 3 next Saturday.

Thomas getting a lot of flak but Dow has hardly kicked a ball in ages.

like a lot of other folk I am disappointed not to get the win , another 2 points dropped , its getting for anyone putting a coupon on stick us down for a draw as it is guaranteed
surprised that Turner was on the bench tonight considering the conditions it would have suited him
As for Dow and Thomas once again they have underperformed , I do not know the last time either of them produced what they are capable off
Expecting by 5pm tomorrow night to be in 3rd place
After tonight I really think we need to be bringing a recognized striker in or a proven target man or sadly we might be toiling

The pitch at Cappielow has been really poor for the last 2-3 years. Every time I`ve been there recently it`s been really bumpy, so definitely not just to do with recent weather. It always annoys me, because for a while it was a great surface, and I have fond memories of running across what was an immaculately beautiful pitch in 2011.

Not a good game tonight but the second half was certainly better than the first. 0-0 was about right, but 1-0 to us would also have been a fair enough reflection of play - one of those where it looks like you just need a break of the ball, but unfortunately it didn`t come. We did OK and certainly had the better fo the play - sometimes it just doesn`t fall for you.

With constantly changing camera angles and a main camera that was often zoomed in way too far to see space, I couldn`t really see what our system was tonight. From what I could make out, it seemed something similar to what we played at Inverness, but with two wide players instead of the narrow midfield we played that night. Watching on a screen in crap - the game is all about space, and when I can`t see that space it completely spoils it.

What was very disappointing was how poor our set pieces are recently. I really thought we'd sorted this after what seemed like decades of terrible corners and free kicks.

When he came on Murray's were only slightly less terrible than Thomas's were.

Same. Thought he looked better than Dow or Thomas in his brief time on the pitch. Some of that might have been helped by the ball moving quicker with Turner on.

Not the greatest game, Painful to watch but great to see Pars on cooncil telly. Really missing being able to go to football now.

Would have took a point before match but a slightly peaved at not getting all 3 as i thought we had with McCanns effort that went wide. Defended well limiting their chances.

As above got a feeling we are going to be 3rd by tea time tonight. Dundee vs Ayr - last 3 games Dundee won 3-1 last team to beat Dundee was Ayr. So hoping it ends in a similar result to what we had with points being shared.

I thought we did pretty well, it was a battle in difficult conditions and we never looked in any danger of conceding. We did enough going forward to score as well, didn`t quite the break of the ball or we didn`t make the right decision in good areas. We were comfortably the better side, especially second half. I think the formation and team selection was fine as well, two up front helped us as we had to play more direct. Turner is not convincing in a 4-4-2 (whatever shape) so it made sense to go with Whittaker and Wilson - and both played well. Thomas and particularly Dow were not quite on it, but that was not a pitch for dribbling.

I thought that the game was probably as good as it could have been given the circumstances.
The big minus was the pitch. How can that be the same place with the bowling green surface where we won the league? However, it was the same for both sides. The other big minus was the obvious ring-rust, again from both sides.
Poor decision making, poor passing ... classic signs of players who have not been in action for a while.
The big plus, which in my opinion is massive, was the effort the team put in. Every single one of them bust a gut for the cause. Many times in the past that has not always been the case. We have all seen times when there have been one or two (or more) passengers in the side. Every player gave their all last night. Not one of them was posted missing in action.
Although the likes of Thomas and Dow, our `creative players`, appear to be off the boil at the minute, they never stopped trying.
I can understand why Turner didn`t start on that pitch, but he did seem to improve things when he came on.
I just think that there were more positives than negatives over all.
As a wee aside, I have had a soft spot for Morton ever since that game in 2011. On a glorious day, on possibly the best ever end-of-season pitch I have seen, they gave us the chance to win the league in our home strip. They didn`t have to do that. It was a gesture that meant a lot to me at the time and I just thought it was a touch of class on their part.

Bit of a rambling post as usual. Sorry ...

Always a Par

JD

Crawfords plan of looking to be more creative/risky at home to win and shut games down away to get draws is becoming more and more apparent.

Genuinely think we could finish the season with 12 wins 12 draws and 3 defeats.

Shutting games down away from home obviously didn`t work at Raith and Dundee where we were forced to come back from two and three goals down to salvage a point. Just as well he had a Plan B.

I actually thought that too - it was clear we were going for the win, but unfortunately we resorted to too many long balls and not enough passing (granted the surface made things incredibly difficult).

It is possible to play 2 up front and still be a compact difficult to penetrate unit, looking to make hay when the opportunities come....the ultimate aim will always be to win - however when we set up like last night then it’s clear to me that a conversation has been had along the lines of, just don’t lose. Accept my original wording isnt right. I meant to say “to get draws as a minimum”.

Not a criticism or endorsement, just an observation. We’ve lost one game all season.

I think Stevie took the pitch, conditions and size of the Morton team into consideration when selecting his team. Reckon that was why he left out Turner. However, we were better when he came on and he played Dow and Thomas who struggled on the surface. We were undoubtedly the better team, but without our top players performing, there is a lack of quality. The back 4 were solid but we need better options up front. If we still had Nisbet, we would be top of this league. Time to find a Nisbet Mk 2 from somewhere.

Yes, that is true. Just fantasising about how Nisbet would be doing in our current team and emphasizing how important he was to us as, even though we have a stronger squad now, we miss his ability which was frankly exceptional as he is continuing to prove with Hibs.

I think it`s too simplistic to say we are more attacking at home. The Hearts and St Johnstone games have been our most defensive performances (understandably because they were the strongest teams we have played). It was fine against Hearts as we came out more in the second half and scored from a deflection and a corner. After there was more space so we still threatened on the counter attack, but we were happy to let Hearts on to us. Had we scored yesterday after a good start to the second half, I reckon we would have won 2, 3 nil.

It is good that we are tactically (in terms of formation and personnel) flexible this season. We started the season with 4-4-2 which was fine, especially against weaker teams in the Betfred and the first few league games. We then found 4-5-1 was helping us get more out of Thomas, Dow and Turner. We really struggled at Dens, McManus couldn`t press the ball on his own and on a poorer pitch it was hard for us to play out from the deep positions we were winning the ball back in (unlike against Hearts when we did this and got forward). I am happy to see we have gone with 2 up top the last 2 games, we have to adapt to the conditions and play more direct. We can also press the ball better up the pitch and create chances from opposition mistakes.
