 Saturday`s game
Topic Originator: wee eck

What are the chances of the game against Ayr going ahead? I see a few degrees of frost are forecast overnight on Fri/Sat and the temperature looks unlikely to get much above zero on Saturday afternoon.

You might find the pitch isn’t frozen under the snow, so clear it on Saturday, bingo.

Can we not use Alloa’s pitch under this agreement we have with them? I thought we could use their ground if ours was unable to use

With BSC Glasgow`s games being postponed, The Indodrill should be free to use. Whether we have an arrangement to use it if it`s free under these circumstances is a different matter. I don`t think the snow is as bad as what it was a few weeks ago though, so every chance EEP will be playable.

Temperature the issue, lows of -4 in town not rising above 1 during Saturday, most likely off for me.

I`d be very surprised if the game is on. Any snow lying about is now is now like ice with the freezing temperatures last night. Hopefully gives more time so we can get some more recruits in before the next game.

Why would we want to disadvantage ourselves by taking our home game there?

There can`t be much of a home advantage these days without any supporters and given that we train on Alloa`s pitch as well, that would help us a little. I`d guess both teams would be keen to play, rather than having to squeeze it in midweek somewhere, and Ayr`s game last Saturday was also off. That said, I am not sure if switching it is even a possibility, there must be some rules/restrictions on this.

Just been passed the ground and they are out clearing the snow off the surface.

Only threat would imagine now is a hard frost overnight, snow might been better left overnight as insulation to protect from the frost maybe?

There don`t seem to be any inspections planned for tomorrow`s Championship games. Are clubs leaving it until the last minute because they don`t have to worry
about giving fans notice of postponements in good time?

Cause the pitches will all be fine to play on as it is, the weather might not be as bad in some places overnight so why ask for an inspection when possibly don't need it and it can be called for tomorrow. Ayr know what the situation is for tomorrow, pitch fine but if is as cold as might be then be very much in doubt

There must be at least one local Par on this thread who can nip round to EEP with a pair of football boots and see if the pitch will take a stud and come back and report their findings. Any volunteers?

I know you probably said it as a joke, but just in case anyone is thinking of doing it, I believe the pitch area is a designated red zone for Covid purposes, so there`s no access for unauthorised persons.

Steady on Stanza. You really don`t think anyone is going to pay attention to a driveller like me do you. Although a wee bit of site investigation may have given some light relief in our present circumstances. However if the stadium is being cordoned off the gates might be locked which wasn`t the case last September when I went to pick up my season ticket. So I nipped in to take in the atmosphere. By the way the pitch was definitely taking a stud that day.

I can see the headline now in the Fife Free Press.

"Dunfermline man in a pair of football boots, trapped on top of fence at East End Park, caught by his braces after testing the pitch to see if it would take a stud. The police have been informed. Background reports awaited".

I suppose your name is a giveaway there Parnear. Very wise not to volunteer but a wee bit of daily exercise is always beneficial so do try to get out and about.

would thought been better to leave the snow on overnight and clear in the morning so its like an insulation blanket on top of the grass, but guess maybe be limited who could be there in morning to clear it, looked like a few players were helping from what I seen this afternoon.

I'd imagine if they are clearing the snow off the pitch then they don't want the game to be on. The snow might have protected the pitch more from over night frost

Weird there’s been no mention of an inspection given how early we called out the Raith game was going to be inspected. Think we confirmed it would be a 9am pitch inspection on the Tuesday before.

Maybe the heating is on? Would explain clearing the snow yesterday before it froze and created a crust.

Maybe the cost of putting the heating is countered by non having a massive fixture pile up?

Spot on, some suggestion that the heating went on Thursday morning,no idea if theres any truth in it, there are journalists asking the club on social media how the pitch is ( no response).

If they let people know the PPV`s could be bought early and save Brian any nonsense with issues later on surely.

`Precautionary` inspection by the match referee at 12.15. Ayr will be well on their way by then. Suggests the club are pretty confident the pitch will be playable. I imagine that`s only because, as suggested above, the USH has been on. The lack of clear info is frustrating.

Ayr won't be "well on their way" majority of players will be in Glasgow and picked up around 12.15/12.30 to get thru here for 1.30 as nornal away time arrival.

Point taken, PARS207. The inspection has probably been timed so they can notify Ayr of the ref`s decision before they leave. In fact, with the restrictions on showers/changing room facilities etc it may be that clubs leave later for way games than previously.
