I'd say it's worse.

Due to the pitch being in a good condition both sides are content to knock the ball about and pass it, however this doesn't mean either team is playing well, nor that it's a good game. Hasn't been a single decent, or even half attempt by either side, honestly the most forgettable 45 minutes you would have watched.

Probably been discussed before but would we be picking up wins and draws in extremely poor games with fans in? Highly doubt it. 5 mins boring football at eastend and the boos start. Anyway hopefully we can grab a goal and win this. Ideally i want hearts rovers to draw.

Utterly abysmal 45 mins most of which has been played in our own half , Ayr have had more of the ball. We have created nothing , not even won a corner. No movement off the ball , pedestrian on it. Comrie has been our best performer.

Think F Murray should get a start moving forward. Thomas and Dow have done nothing to keep their place in my opinion. Not blaming them for the teams poor performances but they have both been off the boil for a number of weeks now.

just now we are absolutely brutal !!!
I know there is a second half to come and we shouldn`t comment too much after 45mins so hopefully Stevie can sort out that dressing room !!
But It has been one of the worst performances I have witnessed of late

Cmon Ye Pars results are going our way in other games just now

I`m very disappointed in McManus today. Doesn`t seem to have made a single correct decision in his movement and his first touch has been awful. Not too many bright spots. Defence is pretty solid. Comria and Edwards are working hard, Whitaker has made some good tackles, but other than that...

Stevie needs to make some changes by the hour mark. With the scores in other games, this really is a MUST WIN!

Gutted! Chance missed big time. Crawford clearly doesn’t fancy O’Hara so I think we need to make getting a striker in an absolute priority. Seem to have decent options in most areas but really light up top. Not that he’s prolific but could you imagine if McManus gets injured or suspended?!?

No flair
No urgency
No fight
Thomas & Dow - off their game
McManus left upfront to do it all himself

3 hours of football and barely a chance created.

Play like that against Hearts or the Rovers & we will be in trouble.

We look and play like a mid-table championship team.

well more points dropped just when other teams do you a favour
As usual when we get these chances we always blow them
Looking at recent performances if we continue like this we can probably even forget about getting into the play offs as every other team seem to be picking up the pace bottom line is maybe our squad isn`t as good as we all thought
ok we didn`t get beat today but if we had turned up Ayr were there for the taking
these performances and drawing week in week out are not acceptable if you have ambition !
a few things certainly need to change
I am absolutely gutted with that performance

Crawford needs to try and change this. We are going through the motions, not looking threatening, lacking urgency. Thankfully no one else is looking consistent either but we have had a chance on a few occasions to put of a gap between ourselves and the pack and absolutely sh@t the bed.

Awight Pat!

McManus, Sow and, to a lesser extent, Wilson all had good chances to score in the second half but fluffed them.

Could someone explain to me the logic of playing with one recognised striker, especially at home, when we don`t have a prolific scoring midfielder to support him? I get so frustrated with modern football where it seems to me everyone just copies each other regardless of the resources at their disposal.

On a positive note, if there is one, we are still second, Morton lost, Dundee drew and our best attacking players must hit a bit of form sometime soon. So we are well placed to go all out for promotion.

Watched the hearts game with a mate and there was a blood injury but no way 9 and a half mins worth.
Concerns me some of the comments here though but i will wait until later when others have posted but we lost an opportunity to close the gap and if we play anything like what is already said then we will be in serious trouble against rovers.
They were pretty solid and MacDonald had a couple of superb one handed saves. Rovers are good going forward especially kia Kennedy.

I agree with you Eck
A home game and you are playing one striker ?
And the lone striker today again couldn`t control a bag of cement
If you have any ambition of the play offs you need to take the game to the other team
And your right about the 3 chances we had a wee bit of quality and its a goal
saying that we 7 attempts none on target and this has been our downfall of late
and before anyone else tells you about Sow when you mean Dow I will tell you Eck , Sow plays with Dundee , maybe you were right though as Dow was posted missing today again

We have been playing poorly for two months now. Today was awful, pedestrian and lacking any purpose . We can forget finishing in the Top4 if we don`t get out of this performance slump.
To start with I would rest Thomas and Dow. I was surprised O`Hara didn`t come on, the conditions would have suited him.

Just as well the crowds aren`t in , Crawford would be getting everything shouted at him and rightly so.

Defensively we are on par with most teams in this division, up front we are woeful , nobody seems capable of taking the few chances that come our way, the 3yr contract for Ohara must be a joke , surely

If Ohara is on the bench every week how can he score ?
he needs to get game time and if he doesn`t cut it punt him , but at least you have to give him a chance , and how Mcmanus is playing just now I cannot see why Ohara isn`t getting the chance , we have nothing to lose the way we are under performing just now

poor result, poor performance, poor finishing when the chances if you can call them that came long.

Playing McManus as a sole striker hasn’t really worked ..... suspect if RR played Hearts with a sole striker they wouldn’t have scored 3 goals at Tynecastle .... see where I’m going with this?

Don’t get me wrong, there have been a few cracking goals from open play this season .... but very few.

We haven’t been creating enough chances and actually testing opposition goalies. It would help if more of the shots we do make we’re on target. We had at least two solid chances at goal inside the box, both ballooned.

Although we managed to find 3 goals away at Dundee, this is only possible once we move away from playing with a single striker.

You`d expect one or other of the two wide men to have a decent game each week but Dow and Thomas have both given us nothing for weeks and are beginning to be luxury. Either get someone in to change it or give Murray a chance but let them know their place isn`t guaranteed as it seems to be just now.

We`ve played most of our best football this season with just one up front, so I`m not accepting that as a reason for not playing well today. When we`ve played poorly using that system we`ve at least been competitive, when we`ve played poorly with 2 up front it`s been much worse.

However, when the support players behind that one up front don`t really get going, it`s bound to be a bit of a struggle. Dow seemed to be forced really deep toay, first half in particular. And Thomas just didn`t get into the game at all, just like pretty much every other game in the last 6 weeks.

It`s not about the shape (one up front generally suits us better), it`s about not playing well enough as a team.

At the end of the day it is only football (although I wouldn`t call that football today
we are all passionate about the Pars and want them to win every week but hey we need to be realistic that`s not going to happen as Hearts have found out , but surely we should be getting a bit more quality from the players we have and that is not happening just now ,and as others have said can you Imagine if there was supporters at these games I also wish our team would show the same guts and determination that Arbroath show in games
we cannot change today`s result so let`s be thankful Ayr were was as bad as us
I do think we need a better target man brought in , and if we can sort this out we won`t be too far away
almost Forgot to say we should thank our lucky stars that we have our health just now and can watch a game of football with everything that is going on
so let us forget about today and move on
have a good evening folks

Last week we created nothing and Zero shots on target , this week we created nothing and zero shots on target ( the Ayr keeper will not have a quieter 90mins) If we have any genuine hope of finishing second we have got to be brave enough to actually try and win games.

so u can only score 3 goals in a game if don't play 1 up front then ?

there are 10 outfield players on the park to score goals, they all have chances too.

Hard to know what the best description of our performance is today: desperate, frustrating, irritating? Having watched every broadcast game this season I’d have to agree that changes are definitely needed. McManus is just not cutting the mustard up front on his own. Sure, he’s winning free kicks in his inimitable way, but he’s not a battling centre forward type which, if we’re playing a single striker, is what I think we need. And, let’s be realistic, this incredible undiscovered partner that we’re going to find for buttons to complement him just isn’t going to happen in the January transfer window. That means we’ve got to work with what we have and people are going to have to accept this. What worries me - despite what others have posted - is that I don’t think our defence has tightened up much at all. Against Ayr and Morton I think we were incredibly lucky to escape with a point. Every time the opposition wins a corner or makes a determined attack I find myself shutting my eyes and offering up a silent prayer. Dow and Thomas have come in for a lot of criticism. Actually, I think they have both improved slightly in recent games. Today I’d say that the corners and crosses (well, most of them) were better than we’ve been seeing recently. But as others have said, it’s as a team that we seem to be struggling. The passing is woeful in the main. And whilst we seem to be trying to pass in neat patterns there is no pace or forward momentum. It’s all too turgid and slow. We also continually seem to come off second best in competitive situations. Latterly in today’s game we were back to lumping or clearing the ball anywhere. It was meat and drink to Ayr. Oh dear! Optimistically I’m hoping that the elusive goal has become the elephant in the room and that if we can get a couple in a game - any game - it might improve confidence levels. But we really do need to get back to some fast, free-flowing football. My fear is that the Hearts game may come too soon and we could be in for a real gubbing. Certainly things could well get a lot worse before they get better.

Regarding the formation, either us or RR?

I believe that, according to BBC, Rovers did indeed play with 4-2-3-1 ... and it is true that two of the goals were indeed scored by the ‘1’ (different players, HT sub?).

So that does dent my argument about playing with a sole striker.

What I do stick to though is that we score a lot more goals playing 4-4-2; and I think that is when SC changes the formation when the game isn’t going well. Credit where it’s due that he’s both smart enough and brave enough to make those types of changes.

I still regard McManus as a great asset and his work rate is second to none; but I don’t think his strongest role is as a sole striker .... that’s not a criticism, as I don’t think Lionel Messi is either.

Morton didn`t manage a shot on target against us and Ayr managed one so I think you have to give the defence some credit for that.

Not true wee eck. Morton thought they had scored but the referee/linesman didn’t agree. And so did Ayr, as well as having Moffat’s dangerous shot sliding just past the post when it looked easier to score.

So one shot wasn`t a goal as decided by the officials and the other was off target? I`m going by the BBC`s stats. Even if you included those the stats hardly suggest our defence is shaky.

I hadn`t realised that prior to yesterday Ayr had taken just TWO points from their previous 5 games , they are/ were on a wretched run of form. Yet it is they who were on the front foot from the off. I can recall looking at the clock after 6 minutes thinking we had hardly gotten out of our half and that Ayr had far too much possession. Given that we were at home I just find it unacceptable that we adopted such a deferential approach.
