Clubs in Scotland can start buying and selling players from midnight on Saturday, January 2. [Friday night into Saturday morning]
Players who are free agents can join before this date.
The transfer window slams shut at midnight (12am) on Monday, February 1.
Players who are free agents can still join after this date.

No... UEFA rule no 169 paragraph 4 sub section 4.3 states that "all transfer windows must be slammed shut for no other reason than it makes it sound more official than simply closing it gently".

Can't argue if it's in the rules 🤣

Just saw that Kai Kennedy has been recalled by Rangers from Inverness. Expecting him to sign a new deal before being loaned to Raith. Does that mean Ethan Ross or Danny Armstrong on the move

Does anyone know, with our three loanees, are the loans up in January or are they season long? The guy I would love to see back here is Paul McMullen although I suspect he will be too rich for us. He was reported to be unsettled at Dundee Utd about a month ago and Dundee were reported to be after him. It wouldn`t surprise me if he ended up at Tynecastle though.

I`d hope we`re going in for McMullan if Dundee are. We do need another option on the wing. Him or Kai Kennedy would be superb.

You think so GJS93? They made massive cut backs in the summer and have probably spent most of their budget on Charlie Adam (either that or a benefactor is paying his wages). I wouldn`t imagine their players are on much more than ours.

They've got an American owner who underwrites a pretty severe loss every season, and that's before you consider parachute payments, the fact that they have a larger revenue than us etc.
While there squad doesn't look to impressive, they signed Byrne when he was a first team regular in the prem, they signed McDaid when he was considered one of the best wingers in the division, likewise Marshall...

When did we last sign someone who had spent a good few years at this level establishing themselves as one of the best in there position?

Dom Thomas, Grant? I`d say he`d be in the starting 11 at every Championship club (except maybe Hearts). Obviously he was only on loan in the Championship (and league one) but he highly rated. Paul Watson would have been another one. He`s definitely a step up to Ashcroft who obviously went to Dundee.

Dom Thomas had an emotional attachment to us from the loan spell.

Paul Watson wasn't a guaranteed starter at Dundee Utd, hence why he was released and they retained their other CB's.

I`d say Dom Thomas would be in the starting 11 for Hearts right now. All I see on social media from there fans is that they lack width. Without the boy Ginnelly they really don`t have much.

Emotional attachment or not I`d imagine if a club came in with more money he would have went there. Based on that though McMullan might have an emotional attachment to the club? He was brilliant on his loan spell here after a slow start and was well thought of at East End.

The club mentioned earlier last year about the possibility of attracting players abroad with the German investors. I wonder if we could see an unknown arrive at the club this month?

What makes you think he doesn't apply himself every game, dafc? Is it because you feel his performances are inconsistent? Isn't it perfectly possible to have good games and poor ones, while consistently trying your best? From what I know of him, he's a very enthusiastic lad, with a bubbly personality. I'd be extremely surprised to learn that there are times he doesn't apply himself, even in training, never actual mind games.

That's the nature of most wingers, in my experience. We remember their dazzling play that leaves the fullback on the floor, but even for the very best of them (Jimmy Johnstone etc) there were games when nothing seemed to come off, and their influence on the game was marginal.

Don't forget Thomas is more intensely marked by teams so he has less freedom, the guy is gifted no doubt about it. His free kick crossing are still a danger to other teams. The team needs to exploit his double or tripled up by defenders somehow to give openings for another player. Thomas Murray combo worked super at the start.

Not sure how Hearts are financing this especially with the lack of income etc. They should be absolutely walking this league with the squad they have and I would imagine MS will be on a bulky wage especially if Aberdeen were after him.

Aberdeen seemingly said they weren't bringing anyone in. Hearts are doing what Dundee Utd did and buying the league, which is risky given the league could be nullified. Hearts have plenty of donors though. How do you think that new stand was paid for?

a few comments at the bottom of the interview on that during the week if you haven`t seen it RossF.
whilst it might be difficult i suppose the general idea would apply, if its some one far too good to turn down then they would go for it, they wont be short of offers from agents or players themselves thats a certainty. if i can find 4 or 5 forwards as an example on a couple of sites in 10 minutes, god knows how many players the club would get offered each window lol.

We won't be getting any European players now after Brexit.
I'm sure the points system to work here will be the same for Scotland as it is for England. See video for details on the points system, you will see why we won't get any foreign players again, ever.
Another reason Scotland needs independence, it will help the Pars.

Brexit has ensured that we won’t see any foreign talent from Europe ever again at this level. Not that we were signing an awful lot of players around Europe, but you’d think with the investment from the German consortium that would have been one of the bigger options of sourcing talent.

I can’t see us signing anyone this window tbh unless we are sending a few out on loan.

The SFA have not come to an agreement yet with the Home Office, however from what I`ve read the points system will not be as strict as England as we are unlikely to be able to attract as high a calibre player. In terms of this window, it shouldn`t be too difficult to sign an EU player as temporary measures are in place:

"Scottish clubs will still be able to sign players from the European Union in the January transfer window, subject to approval from an SFA appeals panel.

The temporary measure will see the SFA give Governing Body Endorsements in the same way they do currently to secure work permits for non-EU players.

With the UK set to leave the EU, there had been uncertainty over whether clubs would be able to sign players from European clubs in January as freely as they have in the past.

England is set to move a points system for the window, which will see work permits approved or rejected based on criteria like international caps.

With Scottish football authorities still wrangling for a post-Brexit system better suited to the game north of the border, the Home Office has given approval for the appeals panel as a stop-gap when the window opens next month."

Some Hibs page on twitter saying we’re after David Gray on loan and have enquired about Darren McGregor. Sure they mentioned about Fraser Murray at first so wouldn’t be surprised if true.

Odd as we’re quite well covered at centre half and right back. Lewis Martin out for the rest of the season? Euan Murray off to Aberdeen?

think it was the Courier that had the Murray link first but with twitter accounts like that if they throw enough names and clubs out there they will get one right eventually. cant see either being the case personally but maybe this is that one or even two.

another day another Hibs player being linked by a "freelance journalist" on twitter Ross County, Dundee and ourselves interested in Sean Mackie. that Hibs twitter account had us in for him in the summer too.

When he was talking about transfers in his interview this week, Stevie said `we do work on a number of things and most of the time it doesn`t come off`. That surprised me when I read it at first but when you think of it there must be a load of things that can stop a player going to a club and maybe it isn`t so easy getting that striker or whatever we think we need.

He's not necessarily just saying this about players that we moved for but got knocked back for or can't afford.
Maybe he's including players that they look into and decide not to go any further with for any number of reasons.

a bit early for a summer transfer window thread which is more likely for this one...

"Queen of the South have offered Connor Shields a new deal to try and fight off growing interest in their top scorer, writes Scott Burns.

The Championship outfit have seen their frontman net nine goals already this season and want to extend his contract until the end of next season.

The Doonhamers are aware that several Scottish Premiership, Championship and English sides are all watching him closely, knowing he can move for free in the summer.

Shields is one of the form strikers in the country at the moment with Dundee United, St Johnstone, Dunfermline and Raith Rovers all amongst the clubs who are looking closely at the 23-year-old"

all the clubs could have been thrown in there but id be surprised if we werent interested in him.

McMullan is better than anything we've got at the moment and is a seasoned/established player. Banks sounds like a promising youngster but unless he's another Adam Hammill, I don't think we can expect him to make a huge impact. Of course, I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

I agree, once defenders worked out he only really has one foot, McMullen becomes less effective.

He did well for us briefly, but tailed off.

Can`t see why we should go there, far better us working our way through with who we have got, a slight dip- I don`t want us to be stock piling wingers- we have got good ones already.

Judging a Championship level winger on their goals is nonsense imo. How many assists does he have in that time? Only winger I can think of that's scored regularly is Cardle and he was less a winger and more an inside forward

You absolutely have not. A decent player and worth a lot more than £300k. Be interesting see how he does at the graveyard of strikers that is Sunderland though....

Been very impressive when i've seen him. Often up front on his own which is a thankless task. Was excellent in their recent game at Parkhead.

✍️ Morton are delighted to announce the signing of Kazaiah Sterling from @SpursOfficial. The forward joins on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

On 6 December 2017 he made his competitive senior debut for the club, coming on as an 88th-minute substitute for Dele Alli in Spurs` final Champions League group game against APOEL Nicosia, a 3–0 win at Wembley Stadium.

BBC Sport Scotland

Potentially one more piece of business for Hibs tonight with striker Jamie Gullan possibly heading out on loan.

Dunfermline are hoping to agree deal with Hearts for Craig Wighton. The striker is in the final four months of his current deal with Hearts and the Fifers are keen on a pre-contract, but would take him now if terms were favourable.

With the absolute cluster f*** that is Brexit, no foreign players will be at EEP in the near future.

We also won’t sign anyone btw. It’ll only be loan deals and there is plenty time for them. Not entitely surr but might be able to loan players until end of February.

the rules on foreign signings will remain as they have been for this summer as well it was reported today.

again we have up to the end of February to sign loan players from Scottish clubs although who will actually be available at that point that is of the standard needed.

Below is the new rules for signing loans there is also an increase from 4 to 6 this season due to the current circumstances

In addition, the dispensation currently afforded to League One and Two clubs enabling them to sign players on loan in September and February has been extended to Championship clubs. The “September” window has been amended to October given that the Scottish FA has confirmed that the Scottish transfer window will close on 5 October.

Although I would prefer to get someone in just now rather than another few games down the line

the squad has more than enough options as it is and that is before the possibilty of Wighton signing or a random foreigner Raymie might be hinting at.

Hearts and Dundee were always going to spend, we cannot match that.
Raith look to be covering for injuries and not being able to reply on what they had to stay fit.

As said I appreciate it’s my own bed wetting but I disagree with us having more than enough options and the results show.

No goals in last 3, 1 win in god knows.

Whilst I appreciate we can’t compete with Hearts and Dundee financially Crawford has admitted that there is funds there. A bit of risk and reward is needed.

I was thinking that, I would prefer to remain safe and not count on any potential Nisbit money until It is in the budget. I am pretty convinced Stevie is actually being shrewd here. Hang off until after transfer deadline and then look at loans which are viable because others want to reduce wage bills during these difficult times.

But Crawford has said himself there is funds available.

Better just saying nothing and then it comes as a surprise.

What gets me is he brought player like Ethan Ross, Bruce Anderson on loan - all have been available and yet hasn’t went for them? Surely we could afford more than Ayr put forward for Smith?

because he wanted Banks
because if rumours are true he wants Wighton and perhaps wasnt impressed with what he saw of Anderson at Ayr.
Smith knowing he was guaranteed a start at Ayr, why move? might have nothing to do with money.

the money might be there but you sign the players you want and will improve us not just any player to make up numbers you dont need.

another one ill get wrong but ill take a punt Wighton has agreed a precontract but for whatever reason a deal to take him now couldnt be done even on loan.

How can he be happy with a squad that doesn’t score goals? I struggle to see this. A few of our rivals managed to get forwards in that could be decent signings. The Spurs player Morton signed could be a cracker. I really hope that he’s right and our squad can come good with the goals, however, I may be negative but I honestly can’t see us holding onto a playoff place until the end of the season. In SC we trust.... hmmmm we’ll see!!

Possibly something might still be announced in terms of new signings.

But I would say that it`s disappointing that the window has closed without further additions especially in attacking areas.

it is only my opinion but being in second place has masked a long period of poor football and lacklustre performances at east end.

unfortunately lot of fans don't understand what they see on the Internet stream at home games where they miss tactics from both sides, position of opposition so its not just as easy as saying lacklustre performances at eep,

sometimes gotta give opposition credit for their set up to counter what we throw at them or how nornally play.

Just as we have done as away side at Celtic last season, Hearts on Saturday there and the home league game. Gotta mind that these are Scottish championship players they ain't the level u see on sky every weekend.

We’ve won 1 game in the last 9! SC stated they had the funds to bring one or two in - yet we don’t! The only teams we have looked ok against are the ones like Hearts who play open football as they count themselves as favourites- the others close up at the back and we can’t break them down. If we are going to continue playing the same sort of tactics every week, which the other teams have learned and countered we needed that change desperately. Last season was the same - we won 3 out of the final 12 games! Season before 5 wins in the last 18 games. It’s like Deja Vu of an unpleasant nightmare.

Agree its a concern. I think that other than Hearts, there is very little difference between the rest of the teams in the league. Personally I think on paper the players we have are good enough to get us into the playoffs. Morale has been good. Its a fact of life that players will come and go and sometimes if players come in it can affect the balance. Hopefully the players can deliver a playoff place by the end of the season.

Have to be honest not too fussed, wasn`t expecting much in the transfer window- every club says we need a striker.

So theres none realistically available, those that are are horses.

We have a good squad already, bit of a dip.

I have no idea of our financial situation, but we don`t have a skeleton squad.

We won`t win the league, but play offs are the goal- perfectly achievable.

Not so many games left, so signing some U 23 player who played 3 minutes of adult football 5 years ago doesn`t worry me.

Some posters on here must think we are playing football manager and have endless amounts of money to waste. Maybe just maybe after losing to Hearts at weekend Crawford has decided winning the league isn’t achievable but the squad he has at hand are capable of achieving the playoffs, why waste money if that’s the case. He has maybe decided that the little money he has available could be better invested next year to improve the squad further.

We are also a club that wants to develop players and sell them on, with the short contracts we offer the window for selling isn’t that long so players need to be playing for that to happen, bigger squad equals less opportunities to do this and could upset the harmony within current squad.

The suspension of the lower leagues probably hasn’t helped either as could have had potentially 2 or 3 youngsters out freeing up wages and space in the squad for a new addition.

Sick hearing abt other teams tactics frustrating us . I've seen no evidence of teams showing any fear of what we can "throw at them " .
Our position in the league still flatters us and some folk need to get the blinkers off and realise this .
Sure we look reasonable at the back , but we'll not win many games if we don't start creating and taking chances .

Our income is down 50% due to the pandemic, the ethos of the board is not to spend money we don`t have and we didn`t get a windfall from the sale of Kevin Nisbet.

We`ve also lost 2 games all season - one a narrow defeat at Tynecastle - are in 3rd position and have signed a pretty exciting talent on loan.

If we can`t be positive, let`s try practical. We try and progress as much as possible but, in the current climate, we also need to try and ensure that there is a solvent club awaiting us when we are able to return to the stadium.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I love it when we go sell Kevin Nisbet,
He's gonna pay for everyone this season.

If our main target was Craig Wighton I`m not too disappointed we haven`t signed him. He`s a decent player but I`m not sure he would have given us a different option from what we have. There are a lot of good arguments here as to why signing players just now isn`t necessarily a good thing.

Maybe Crawford needs to be more careful in how he answers questions in an interview situation because reading the stuff on the official website would certainly indicate activity in the transfer market.

What Crawford now needs to prove is that he is capable as a manager to get the likes of Thomas and Dow firing again.

That he can work out how to get better service up to McManus or O`Hara.

Disappointed we haven`t brought anyone else in. We have been off the boil for the last few weeks and only won 1 in our last 9 and not scored in 3. What worries me is that teams around us have strengthened and we`ve only brought in one player as MacDonald will be going back to Airdrie once League One (hopefully) resumes.

Fingers crossed we can hit a bit of form again starting tomorrow and the lack of signings doesn`t come back to bite us.

I feel the same. We've been creating little in games and teams around us have all strengthened. Unless we can get more out of what we have then things are only going in one direction.

Is it wrong to point out that we've actually won 2 out of the last 9 league games.....

Yeah that isn`t a great stat either. You could argue the point away at Inverness, Morton given the conditions and the way we came back against dundee and the rovers.

But performance against Morton at home, Ayr Utd at home and the Arbroath game for me were not good. All those team were on poor runs but they come to east end and they are able to control large spells of the game. Needs to be better

I don't think anyone on here is suggesting we have endless buckets of cash to spend. However, we do have one of the smaller squads in the league and we made circa £200k from the Nisbet sale. With the exception of Hearts, I would have thought our season ticket and PPV sales would be amongst the best in the league. On top of that, that we also have a German consortium "investing" in us.

Another poster has suggested that our target should now be securing a playoff position (as opposed to winning the league), but at the moment I don't think we are anywhere near good enough to trouble premier league opposition (should we get that far). As such, I am one of those fans disappointed that we didn't sign at least one more player during the transfer window.

Let's just see what tomorrow brings in terms of our neighbours. Pretty sure we will know from there where we are. Games like this both teams tend to up Thier game and maybe the fact Crawford only brought in one player will boost current squad morale.

"because reading the stuff on the official website would certainly indicate activity in the transfer market"

if you mean activity as in guaranteed signings then no it doesnt.

i mainly blame Sky for this hysteria around "deadline day"thats built up over the years in particular but for the umpteenth time....we have until the end of February to sign players on loan from Scottish clubs and the end of March for free agents IF needed/will improve us etc etc!

on the size of squad, the problem is who gets left out of the 18 on a match day as we saw at the weekend not that it is too small.

I`ve just had a look at all the signings by Scottish clubs on the SPFL website and am surprised how much activity there has been in League 1 and 2 clubs considering play has been suspended indefinitely there.

News of two ex-Pars` goalkeepers - David Hutton has moved from Airdrie to Brechin and Ryan Goodfellow has moved from Albion Rovers to Edinburgh City.

There's two ways to look at it.

On one hand we spend a decent amount of cash to strengthen the team, finish second and maybe get promoted.

On the other hand we don't spend, finish fifth and remain in the Championship.

The chance of promotion this season is fairly slim so spending money may not be wise. For all we know we get a windfall from Hibs selling Nisbet in the summer. We then use some of that money to really strengthen the team for promotion. The teams likely to be relegated won't have the resource Hearts have had this season meaning we could give it a really good go.

I`d have to say that given the strengthening Dundee and Raith were able to do that both will fancy their chances to finish above us. One win in the last 9 is poor top 4 form in any division, be lucky to stay there.

Just have to hope we start taking some chances like the ones created on Saturday.

That sort of run happens all the time in football and teams come out of it. I didn`t expect our opening run of 4 wins and a draw from our first 5 games would continue and I don`t expect the present run to continue either.

1 win in 9 which includes a league cup quarter final against StJohnstone and away trips to Dundee, Raith, Inverness, Morton and Hearts...

You are correct alwaysapar but I was including the cup game also.

We do have a decent squad and it is a squad I would fully expect to make the playoffs but I feel we need a bit more cover upfront.

Who would be a Manager these days , Like others have said we do have a half decent squad they just need to find their MOJO again
The biggest problem I can see was that we had such a good start so of course we as supporters come to expect this every week from the team , we have stuttered for a while now and all teams will have a period like this ,our stuttering has probably come due to teams knowing we basically use the wings cross the ball and hey ho .or first games we scored from set play, so teams have now set themselves up to combat this tactic from us IE : park the bus , but the recent visits at EEP from Morton /Arbroath /Ayr this has not been the case, to a certain extent we have basically not been good enough and often have been choosing the wrong options when they come along a little bit of composure at times would not go amiss and the longer this goes on the harder mentally it is to get out this habit, often it is because you try harder and make more mistakes, people mention our best performances have been against Hearts but of course they are more attack minded and leave more spaces at the back plus we didn`t sit off them we need our midfield to be a bit more creative and chip in too and take a little bit of the pressure of the shoulders of our Forward I say forward because we seem to only play with one , I am a little bit disappointed we didn`t bring a forward in to try and address things in a different style of play or whatever but it is what it is But we need to come good again sooner rather than later or we will be left chasing the pack for the play off`s and tomorrow night would be a good time to start a run of wins again
Cmon Ye Pars
And before I am shot down in flames for what I have written, I am only giving my honest opinion on how I see things and I am sure we have the Personnel to change things around

Exactly. So what are we saying here, that we’re not good enough to beat the teams around us? If we want to go anywhere we need to start picking points up on the road at grounds that isn’t Gayfield or Alloa.

no it means that its arguably the toughest 5 away games we will have and against a established Premier League side. Sometimes stats need be put into context.

Its the last 2 games if anything thats maybe been a disappointment against Morton and Ayr dropping points against them. Even 1 win out of those games would have made a massive difference

re the recent visits where teams apparently not sat in and parked the bus, this is viewed from what, the pars TV stream?

which basically follows the ball and you don't get a view of the play ahead of the defence and midfield so it's very difficult to view tactics and formations.

take look at so far the Hearts game this season at home, Utd last season , Dundee last season, they didn't come to eep and sit back so its much easier on home team to play and be attacking.

but you can only see that if your at the games with decent views of the park and whats infront of you

An interesting take on the transfer window from Davie Moyes from the BBC Sport website :-

West Ham manager David Moyes says he was not prepared to buy a striker during the January window just to "appease" people.

"We were looking and we had money to spend," said Moyes.

"But we are trying not to go down the same path as before. I am not going to sign players who have come in to appease people."

"When the club spent £200m, people said it was great and we were going places - it didn`t work out that well," he said.

"We do want to add to what we have and we tried for a striker, but the players we wanted weren`t available."

on those away trips against teams around us, what does it say about them then that they can't beat us on their own home patch !!

one was 2 goals up, another was 3 up, another took a worldie into top corner to score equaliser.

Although football is about results it would be nice to get at least some enjoyable football.

I have been in a position this season where I have also been able to watch the Rovers quite often this season and not only are they winning most times it is exciting.

They have also played the same opposition this season as Dunfermline.

Maybe Stevie had targets but waited to see if Nisbet brought in the cash needed for the better option and missed out due to all the faffing about with Hibs and Birmingham.
Could have been someone decent lined up with that cash available but now he may have choices for a loan. Nae rush for that.

I think we have the players to reach the playoffs. There are opportunities for the existing players to step up. Its a tight league so its going to be close. Other than Hearts there isnt much between us and the 3 or 4 teams below us. Whether we have the players good enough to play in the premiership that remains to be seen. We definately need to start to score goals and win games so its over to the players in the current squad.

According to the Courier Dundee are interested in signing Celtic midfielder Ewan Henderson on a loan deal. They seem to be overhauling their squad.
