Match thread ~ Hearts 1-0 DAFC FT
Topic Originator: buffy
Date:   Sat 30 Jan 12:25

Raith Rovers 3-1 Dundee FT
Ayr United 4-1 Alloa FT
Morton 0-1 Arbroath FT

FT at Tynecastle. It finished Hearts 1-0 DAFC. Jamie Walker with the only goal on 74mins. The Pars were hot to trot from the off but Jambos keeper Craig Gordon showed his capabilities to keep a clean sheet and stop all chances for the visitors.

Rovers move into 2nd place with a better goal difference

Early doors I know - trying to get excited for the fitbaw on a match day isn’t the same - so please feel free to post yer thoughts on line ups etc.

Doing my Michael Fish impersonation, hopefully the snow stays off - we had a light covering in toon this morning and since then it’s been hailstones and rain. There’s three blokes on my dormer roof trying to fix a leak.

That’s about as exciting as it gets roond my way!

Anyway, mon the Paaars! 🖤🤍❤️⚽️

Bright but damp and freezing here in Edinburgh. I can usually here noise from Tynecastle and would’ve normally been there for a Pars game - but not at that price.

thought they would go with a big starting 11 tbh,

so be either 4-1-4-1 or 4-2-3-1

Team selection very poor, a centre back in centre mid. Why not have a go at hearts as the wee team managed to stick 3 past them

Bit surprised with that. Hearts aren`t the strongest in defence and we are capable of scoring but I guess we have to be cautious with their forward line. Fingers crossed we can come away with something. We need everyone at 100% today.

pleased with 1st 45mins , look good and solid all over there park with a threat going forward.

Issue will be when they bring the new striker on how we cope with him.

Liking the look for Fraser Murray today and hopefully Whitts can last the 90mins in the middle.

Been good so far, Fraser Murray has provided a bit more quality on the wing than Thomas has in the last few weeks, not as impressed by Dow on the other side. Ridiculous save by Gordon from Dow but you have to bury the header in this sort of game.

Cracking goal and save was the difference. Easier to accept for me.

We don`t score goals anymore, unfortunately.

Disappointed we lost that. Hearts were there for the taking today and one bit of good play cost us a goal. It`s a shame we`ve not got someone clinical upfront as we had a few chances that could well have went in. One was a superb save from Gordon though. We do look very strong defensively and hopefully we can do something against Raith next week who are scoring for fun at the moment. I would have loved young Kennedy to come to us!

Sounds like it could have gone either way but ultimately, it is yet another game where we have failed to score. Not difficult to spot where the problems lie. And only one more day to solve it before the transfer window shuts.

We should have scored in that game. We got steadily bullied in the 2nd half and rarely won a header. But, we didn`t play badly at all. Our attempts to get the ball forward after they scored were not good. Made more chances in this game than in the previous 2.

really didn`t deserve to lose that, but that`s why Gordon has played for Scotland and in champs league, was clearly man of the match.

team was set up perfectly, picked up certain players and gave them very little for a team that was supposed to be running away with the league who are hugely over paying for what they are seeing on the park

just one of these ruts that sometimes teams get into, if Declan scuffs the left footed shot from mayo knockback, it trickles into the corner and its a different story, it was much much better today basically cause wasn`t against a team coming to play us and sit in,

transfer window is a couple more days not one day CrossPar

for those moaning about the team selection, think there is a good bit of humble pie to be had by a few tonight on here!!

It’s the draws that are killing us. Today we should have got something, so I’m not going to be too harsh on today’s performance, but Raith are going to take advantage of us drawing constantly. Lose to Raith midweek and I think the ar*e will totally collapse out our season.

Unlucky after a good move to create space and shot on goal. Not dissatisfied with performance as with alot on here.

1 more day for transfer window and now kinda wishing Kevin Nisbit was transfered nearer the begining of Jan lol money we could have done with tbf and could have brought in another striker.

I just wonder if the whole leaking goals in first 7 matches put too much focus on defense and defending. We were scoring but that seems to have dried up. Stevie still to find the right balance I am sure he will but top 4 is our target and we are Joint 2nd in a dog eat dog league. Cannae really complain overly much, just hope the balance we need to defend and score is rectified sooner rather than later.

Decent performance had chances but didn`t take them no composure or guile in front of goal. One bit of skill from Walker left Murray floundering and big Fons no where near it.

Is the Raith team a few are raving about the same one that didn`t manage a shot at goal in midweek? They`re not exactly a model of consistency either are they? Look at the other side of the coin - Dundee`s new signings haven`t exactly started with a bang have they? As I said last week, there`s never a shortage of Pars` fans on here bigging up the opposition on very little evidence.

With a striker we would have won today , unfortunately we are lacking in that department as had been obvious for weeks . will be our own undoing even the wee team have strengthened their front options .

Terrible performance today. Setup to loose! 0 creativity and nothing up front. Apart from that one Dow save we never looked like scoring. We need a striker ASAP or we will struggle to even finish top 4.

Well, we`ve played worse and won tight games like this. It was a smashing goal that beat us, so fair dos to Hearts. They will win this league.

We were well organised with the back four plus Whittaker sticking to their task. We had our chances, but we are sorely lacking something up front. All three of our forwards were given a chance today and none of them clicked.

Midfield were okay, but Dow seems to have lost his mojo. Where are those penetrating runs and tight cutbacks that we know that he is capable of? Murray was good out left and Wilson was steady as usual.

Overall though, an enthralling game to watch and a good show put on by Hearts TV. I liked the high-up TV angle.

Also, a shout out to Willie Collum who reffed the game pretty well.

But, my goodness, we need goals... let`s hope Stevie Crawford manages to get someone in who can make a difference up top before the transfer window closes.

It seems to be one of those spells in a season where not much is really going for us. 0-0 or 1-0 Hearts would both have been fair enough today, just as 0-0 or 1-0 to us at Cappielow would both have been fair enough. Sometimes just the way it goes that things don`t really run for you. A run like this was probably inevitable at some point and it probably balances what happened at the start of the season whre we often scored from nothing, usually with set pieces. That was never going to continue for that long.

We did OK today and were a bit unlucky not to score. We were competitive in the first half and had the better chances by far, but Hearts were stronger in the second half and dominated the ball, though generally we seemed to be holding them fairly comfortably. They got a bit of space at the goal and we were a wee bit unlucky with it - Mayo I think had to go up for a header that was dropping with no pace on the ball and on which he couldn`t really do anything other than head it into some kind of space in the right direction. He did that, but it opened up the space that created the goal. I don`t think it was a mistake, just one of these things that happen. Has to be said it was a great finish - had to be right in the far corner and he managed to put it there. The only disappointing thing today was that we had nothing left for the last few minutes and Hearts were able to see out the game quite comfortably but overall it was a good effort.

A little disappointed we lost that so late on . Hearts were not any better than us ! the difference was walkers goal give him credit he took it well !!
The Bad part for us Inverness Away was the last time we scored a goal 29th December
That`s now over 270 minutes of not scoring a goal and stats do not lie
So I think we know where we are losing games , when we get chances we do not take them we do not seem to have that ruthless streak in front of goals
Certainly hope we have someone coming in to give us an option up front !
So as it stands
Hearts on 33 points after 14 games
Raith on 21 points after 12 games
Pars on 21 points after 13 games
Dundee on 20 points after 13 games
pretty tight at the top from 2nd to 4th
Wednesday night`s game against Raith is a must win game now
It will be an interesting game against a team that`s scoring goals just now and a team that cannot score in a brothel !
Hopefully our luck will change or we bring somebody in

Didn’t have any chances eh? Granted I wasn’t watching the game but cmon.

Wilson nearly scored on 22 seconds!

Dow had his 6 yard shot punched away from Gordon and oot for a corner.
According to Sportsound we had loads of open play and chances. Hearts just pipped it in the end.

Thought it was a tight game, we had our chances but can’t score, thought there goal wasn’t brilliant kinda slow shot, thought Williams might have got it, definitely need to find a forward so we can get back scoring again, hopefully take something from the rovers,

How did Banks do when he came on?

Interesting to hear SC`s comments when asked why Turner didn`t feature. He said something happened at training but it wasn`t clear if it was an injury. He said he would be available in midweek.

Banks did very little due the fact we insisted on putting in high balls
A couple of his corners were good deliveries
But apart from that you cannot judge a player if he doesn`t get the ball
It was a very tight game game today and you always had the feeling 1 goal would settle it , unfortunately it wasn`t for us ! during the first 45 minutes we probably had the best 2 chances of the game as well

When the the man of the match is Craig Gordon then that says it all.
We created chances and Gordon pulled of a world class save.... if that had gone in the game could have ended up a win for us.
We really need a finisher in the team but overall we played well today imo.
Massive game coming v the Lino Lickers....

A full cycle of games since beating the Jambos at EEP - now one win (and that was a huff and puff job against part timers) with three consecutive games with no goals scored.

I hadn`t realised Hearts had scored twice as many as the Pars until I had a quick look at the goals for column - even though they`ve played one more game, that puts things into perspective.

Almost as much as the respective wins stats.

I think we deserved a point, it was a decent effort and with better finishing we would have got a point or even all 3.

The tactics worked pretty well, Hearts did have a few chances but by and large as we have all season, defensively we looked good. We created a few clear chances and needed to stick one away. McManus was unlucky with the one off the line but could/should have done more with the half volley in the second half. Dow really has to score with that header...small margins, that`s the nature of the league.

We are not getting too many breaks at the minute, confidence has obviously dipped and the whole team (not just the forwards) need a goal to get us going again. It is frustrating but our form will pick up again. Fraser Murray looked good (I was surprised he was hooked before Dow who is trying but hopelessly off his game). Mayo did well in the holding role, he`s someone who`d be a great permanent addition. Banks barely got a kick but I am sure he will add another option.

I am confident we will make the playoffs, and that will be when we will want to be on top form.

Did it escape your attention that we have the best defensive record in the league - 14 goals conceded in 13 games? You have an uncanny knack, vee, of failing to see any positives at all in the team you support. You`d be a really inspirational character to have in the dressing room. I suspect you haven`t said anything positive about the Pars since the 60s.

Interestingly when Robbie Neilson was asked after Saturday`s match about Hearts achieving a clean sheet he said he was pleased because the team with the best defensive record over a season usually wins the league!

Neilson is correct. In 9 of the last 10 Championships (1st Division) the team conceding the fewest goals has won the league. In 17/18 Dunfermline conceded 35 goals when finishing 4th one fewer than the Champions St Mirren.
I recall Ryan Williamson battering Demetriou( subbed at HT) in a 3-0 Pars win that season effectively the difference.

The positives are rather few and far between after we beat Hearts.

That single victory since then, against struggling part timers ?

Maybe the “record” for most draws to date ?

The only side not to score in 2021 so far.

I reckon I need the happy juice served hereabouts !!!

Arbroath are hardly `struggling` now. They won the week before we beat them and only Hearts have beaten them since. If being part-time suits them who are we to dismiss them on that basis?

We`ve only played three games in 2021, drawn two and lost one away to the League leaders and have only conceded one goal.

What happened to your favourite mantra `The League doesn`t lie`?

Sorry to spoil your day by being a wee bit positive.

Now being the operative word ?

League tables don`t lie - second bottom with one win in last 5, almost as good a run as us !!!

Keep up the happy talk, it`s good for morale.

As soon as I see "part timers" or quotes like that I automatically skip to thee next post. Just because they are part time doesn't make them any less of a foot all team. Prune example was a few years ago when mcalistair was scoring all the time for Peterhead offered a contract from hibs turned it down as he was making good money running his own business.

Exactly Cammy. Decrying part time teams shows a complete lack of knowledge of how football has changed and evolved over the years.
