 Messi`s Contract

Been revealed in the Spanish press that the Argentinian`s wages for the past four years has been over £120m per annum! That`s 2.3m per week.

TOWK - since you posted your message he has earned over 10 grand.

By the early hours of the morning he will have made more than most people earn in a year.

Basically he could buy the whole of Scottish football in 4 years and still have a few million left over in loose change.

It`s insane.

He's also the absolute top of the food chain in the most popular sport on the planet. Barca would know by the time this was signed that he would be worth that in on the pitch and commercial revenue.

Barcelona are reported to be £1.1 billion in debt and fighting off bankruptcy - at some stage these ridiculous wages simply have to stop.

And yet his wealth is FAR closer to yours or mine than it is to the likes of Bezos or Musk. If you`re looking to rally against wealth inequality Messi, and indeed pretty much any sportsperson, is the wrong target.

Well I wasn`t really railing against the incredible sums Messi makes I was more just astounded that a club in such severe financial difficulty as Barca decided to stump up those sort of wages. However to average Joe`s like us wherever its Messi making 92 times the average Scottish annual wage in one week or Elon Musk making I don`t know how many more times it sort of becomes irrelevant.

I wonder if he gives money to charity? It has been reported that several other players give millions to charity.

If Barca go downhill it’s only down to their own greed.... Messi is/was one of the best players Iv seen but again it’s all about money and behind the scenes to make money.
His contract is absolutely scandalous but I’m sure he will come to an agreement.

That's is ludicrous figures to pay any individual player. That's without all the endorsements for sponsors. It is ruining football to be fair. Even the largest clubs are getting into severe financial difficulties.

Just my own opinion and really think that it is time to place caps on payments. Football needs to return back to the days of financial stability and actually making profits. Or we are going to face losing so many historic clubs.
