As we search for a proven goal scorer at this level...what about Goodwillie currently at Clyde?

There is no chance that the guys who own the Pars will be signing David Goodwillie.

I love it when we go sell Kevin Nisbet,
He's gonna pay for everyone this season.

Goodwillie was suggested on a previous thread a while back.

Whilst I'm all for people reforming themselves, this wouldn't sit easy with me.

The real question I suppose is how would Pars fans feel IF he (or somebody like) signed for us considering his personal life?
No doubt he has the talent/pedigree we all crave but would such a scenario cause much divide?

I would rather not have rapists playing for my football club, thanks.

It`s just not going to happen.

The German consortium are all St Pauli - their ethos refers to principles such as "social responsibility", "rooted in the city", "responsibility", "tolerance and respect" etc.

I am sure they have no issue with Goodwillie making a living out of the game, but there`s no chance his "2nd chance" will continue at the Pars.

Agreed.

I don't think this is a Declan Gallagher scenario here.

Last time i saw him he was working as a labourer on a building site and i think he has realised himself he won't make a living from football again, at least with a fulltime team.

I've seen him four or five times for Clyde and he's been miles ahead of everyone on the pitch on each occassion. If it was purely a football / business decision he'd have moved onwards to a higher level long before now.

Personally I think there is a limit to what convictions fans will accept. There is a difference between what Martindale done and what Goodwillie done. Goodwillie abused his high profile as a footballer and used malice to destroy someone's life by his actions.
Martindale's conviction was done whilst his business struggled. Yeah drugs have an impact on people's lives and it is clear to everyone his remorse and rehabilitation.
Martindale was not involved in football and worked his way up from being a volunteer.

Simply put, i couldn't accept someone like Goodwillie playing for our team when he has abused his position before, I simply cannot accept the club would risk bringing that closer to the community.
