Well, if true, there is your answer to why he would want to leave Hibs after a short spell?

Playing at a better level and a huge salary increase

Think Hibs will have to take the money or face keeping an unhappy player. You only have to look along the M8 to see how that can turn out?

I think Hibs will fold. It`s a gamble keeping him. He could pick up an injury or his form tail off

Who will bid £20M for Morelos now? Lucky to get £5M

Morelos is slightly different due to his ā€˜fiery temper’. Any club that has VAR in their league would be taking a massive risk in signing him. No doubting he’s an excellent finisher but I can’t see any big club taking the chance on him.

Polt..... vast majority of these deals go thru late in the day, suspect the personal terms will been discussed already with an agent and cant see much negotiation being required with that area.

So its just the clubs to agree and medical which will do in edinburgh or glasgow.

As he has only been at Hibs for 6 months it does seem a bit premature to be slapping in a transfer request. If I were a Hibs fan I would be will irked !

Birmingham aren't allowed to discuss terms until approach is granted
"Hibs think the striker has room to grow into a player capable of topping the £4.4m record transfer fee the club received from Celtic for Scott Brown and are refusing to budge.

And now the player appears to have moved to pressure the club to accept an offer so he can discuss terms."

Didn`t he go in the huff when we turned down Hibs` overtures in last year`s January transfer window? He`s probably following his agent`s advice. I get the impression with Nisbet that he`s anxious to make up for lost time, having failed to apply himself properly early in his career.

Its his choice if he wants to go and make some cash , it is a short career
Some folk will say you are a greedy sod wanting away from Hibs so quick after everything that was said , but if the shoe was on the other foot I`m pretty sure I know what most folk would do

So much for Hibs being his boyhood team..only been there 10 minutes.
He couldn`t wait to leave us when he knew they were interested and now it looks like he`s doing it again. He wasn`t interested in a bigger money move to England then.
Maybe says something about his character more than anything else.

Short career, he probably made the move to Hibs and not down south due to his dad not being well (sadly now passed away). Birmingham will be offering Ā£10k a week or similar. Hibs paid Ā£250k and stand to make a profit of Ā£2m for 6 months ā€œdevelopment.ā€

Put it another way, we might end up with a total of over Ā£1million for one seasons work thanks to the wee team šŸ˜‰

Hibernian aren`t shy either stole him from us not that long ago for £250K and want 3.5 million ! probably crying that they have to give us some cash
Good Luck Kev !! hope you get a move
Just shows the true colours of some of the Hib`s fans if they are calling you a rat
I am sure I can speak for Pars fans that we were happy to have you at EEP and will be very happy if you go all the way to the top !

He is being blinded by a Agent that really only sees money. Although If i was in Kevin's position I would also be looking at financial side.... Few more grand a week pay the mortgage quicker, sign on fee, pension pot...it's understandable.
It's just not what you expect after just 6 months into what is now considered a longer contract in Scottish football.

Last offer was apparently 2.6m + add ons

I reckon he`ll be gone in this window. Agent probably had word from Birmingham that if he puts in transfer request, they`ll put in another bid etc.
Don`t think he`d just hand in a transfer request without some sort of idea that they (or someone else) will be back in for him.

how you doing these days ? hope you are keeping well
He will probably get called a greedy wee sod but it is a short career so why not take what you can get because nobody knows what`s round the corner
I do agree his agent will be looking after his pocket too
I didn`t expect him wanting away either but hey it is what it is now , if it goes through it`s money in the bank for the Pars

All good here now Wulliepar57, hope your doing good as well pal.
It's as you say players fall in and out of form quickly. Morelos perfect example worth £20m one season and next value drops big time. Personally I hope it works for him and doesn't end up in the wilderness. Pars will hopefully get a decent return for sell on fee.

Aye I do understand that but IF the agent has given Kev advice to hand in a transfer request 6 months into a 4 year contract. Then that in my opinion is bad advice. The lad could possibly be frozen out of game for another 3.5 years...I know that is unlikely but it is a possibility.
If this risk doesn't work for him and he plays at hibs, when fans are back in they are gonna be on his back....his form will dip as he is a confidence player.

BBC says Hibs turned down a bid of Ā£3 million from Birmingham for Nisbet. The whole thing sounds bizarre. Has Nisbet thrown his dummy out of the pram? Can’t see that he’s done himself any favours IF he’s handed in a transfer request. A lot of this sounds like ā€œfake newsā€ if you ask me. (Do you remember ā€œfake newsā€? Used to be very popular I believe!)

A source close to the player told SunSport: "Kevin loves Hibs and hasn't been looking for a move.

"But there have been mixed messages coming from the club on how they see his future.

"Kevin now he feels backed into a corner over the whole situation and has made his feelings known."

Birmingham are continuing to monitor the situation with Sunderland and Sheffield United also linked with the striker.

Any player who is advised by his agent to hand in a transfer request should have their services dispensed of.

It`s not likely to change the club`s stance and it causes problems for the player if he ends up staying.

The market standard seems to float between 15 and 30%. Given we sold relatively quickly and painlessly I'm presuming we're at the higher end of that.

Just an educated guess though, I know nowt.

Wages is the only thing tempting Kevin in his move and fair enough. Cause Birmingham aren`t in a great league position and could be in League 1 next season! Also the club seems to be in a wee bit of financial bother I was reading.

I just thought the lad woulda had his head screwed on enough to realise his potential, see out the season at Hibs, score another 10 goals and I reckon he could quick easily have got a move to a top end championship team.

But hey ho, agents run the show nowadays.

Or he breaks his leg, loses form and ends up back at Partick. He’d be off his head to turn down a move to Birmingham.

I believe for domestic transfers VAT is paid so 20% - tax man gets paid first so l Pars cut would be after VAT. Then there will be agent and legal fees - I don’t know but I imagine any sell on fee would be a cut of the net income after all costs

Sounds like speculation and rumour. Obviously a personal decision for him, and he will be tied to a contract with Hibs. I understood that he always wanted to play for Hibs but then this may have been media talk. In terms of transfer fee, I would think that there would be some sort of formula based on salary. He has only played in the premiership for half a season also. Good luck to him if he goes. Its a personal choice at the end of the day.

BBC Sport Scotland :-

Kevin Nisbet will NOT be making the move from Hibernian to Birmingham City in this transfer window.

The Easter Road club have turned down all approaches by the English Championship club for the player they signed last summer from Dunfermline for £300,000.

Fair play to Hibs but they now have a disheartened player. If someone offered me 5x my wage and my boss turned it down, I'd not be amused. Football is a short career and he could make more in two years at Birmingham than he could in 10 at Hibs (assuming consistency and lack of injuries).

That wouldn’t make sense given they value him at Ā£3.5-4 million.
They knew when they signed him on a 4 year deal he was going to be an opportunity for a big money spinner.
They won’t drop him for that simple reason.
I still think he’ll be off tonight somewhere.

Birmingham have walked away so either a good play by Hibs in retaining an asset they value, or a daft move where they've been greedy and will get a lower offer in the summer. You just never know in football.

Only daft move made today was by Nisbit himself. Gonna feel the wrath of the hibs fans for sure. Hibs done the right thing. They have committed to 4 years of for funding the lad and want paid what they rate him. If they recon it will take 2.5m to replace him then they need to consider taxes and our sell on fee....so aye hold out to try and get the minimum they need for a replacement.

Agree Polt but it seems there's some questioning to be had over what is and isn't true in relation to the request. Whether reported accurately or not, the Hibees aren't happy. A lot pointing out he jumped ship from the wee team and then from us so isn't loyal.

Loyalty doesn't pay the bills. Footballers have a short career and big money moves don't come around often or at all for most players. Can't blame the lad. Hibs would also be making a fantastic profit on him for a short space of time. We would also cash in. I feel more sorry for the Rovers who got heehaw for him!

I suspect this will hamper Nisbet a lot. His confidence is a fragile at best of times, this will be a blow.

He was worth more than 300k when he left us for Hibs but he had to prove he could perform at the next level before snyone would pay good money to go any further. He did that so the value increased. We got a decent sell on clause to compensate for the lowish purchase price.
Makes sense. If he didnt perform 300k was the right price, maybe too much. He performed so we get our cut. All fair enough to me.

I am reminded of Ken Mackie and the 50k offer we got from Rangers, back in the day. It was turned down and a dramatic loss of confidence and form by the young striker led to him eventually going to Falkirk for just 6k.

Nisbet`s only been there 6 months, I`d say it`s pretty poor on his part if he was trying to engineer a move - hopefully for Kevin`s sake that`s not the case. Hibs are entitled to do as they wish with any bids. They might never get a better offer, then again, his form might pick up again and he might be worth more in the summer, when hopefully the situation with the pandemic will be a lot better and the financial position of all clubs will also be much stronger.

Not quite, Oz. The offer was accepted by the club but Mackie refused to go. He didn`t feel ready for such a move, so the deal fell through. Many of us didn`t think he was worth £50k, which was a huge fee then.

Hibs played hard ball with Celtic over the John Mcginn move ,Hibs wanted what they thought Mcginn was worth plus the percentage due to St Mirren ,Celtic didn't pay ,and how they have regretted it .
I would imagine Nisbet is the same ,Hibs will want 3 million plus our cut around 300-500 k added on .

Parrot makes a good point above, he`s on form but still might not make the Scotland squad for the Euros. If he reckons proving himself at an English Championship club would boost his chances then it would maybe explain the rash decision to chuck in a transfer request to force a potential move through

This transfer window could have been an opportunity for the likes of Nisbet, Gilmour etc to boost their chances of forcing themselves into that squad. I personally can`t think of a (realistic) bigger achievement than representing Scotland at a major tournament

Well it's over and done with now. He needs to explain himself to hibs fans. He should have kept his head down and kept working away.
It's understandable that he is ambitious but to hand in a transfer request with 8 hours to go until deadline was nieve when you have 3.5 years left on contract. However Hibs left both transfer targets on bench...so what else is Kev going to think. He knew other clubs were in for him and maybe wanted a say in where he was going to go. Brum not the best of choices Sheffield United and Sunderland were apparently interested parties as well.

Hibs were aiming to get more money and that is not helped by players handing in request to leave. So he has made his bed now and faces a difficult time ahead with fans and the club and a manager that's going to be looking at him in a different way from before which could have been avoided. The lads just made himself a mountain for himself to climb, when in hindsight would have been better for him to sit tight say and do nothing.

the Courier:
"Dunfermline have missed out on Kevin Nisbet windfall following the collapse of the Hibs striker’s Ā£2.8 million transfer to Birmingham City.

The switch could have eventually netted the Pars over £800,000 after they negotiated a 30-per-cent sell-on clause when the 23-year-old swapped East End Park for Easter Road in the summer for a fee of around £250,000"

Silly boy.

We can all say what we want about moving now for big money because you never know what can happen blah blah blah. What`s meant to happen will happen and all that.

But he should be doing the right thing and keeping his head down and working hard for hibs.
Chances are he gets what he wants eventually and the fans still love him...everybody`s happy !!

But to do this so early into his contract is football suicide I fear, besides, he`s still no all that yet.

Loyalty when playing for most Scottish clubs may not be very strong, particularly when the financial differentials are so diverse. I wouldn`t imagine Kevin will suffer too greatly in the eyes of his team mates or his manager because they probably have the same outlook. If no transfer has materialised, a return to form and a few goals and he will soon be seen as an asset again and maybe Hibs fans will have the same view of him as most Pars fan seem to and see him as a commodity rather than a young man trying to make his way in life.

For any Hibs fan they'll now be thinking he's not interested in Hibs. That's certainly how I felt when he did the same with us.

To be clear, I don't blame any footballer for chasing the money, but it just felt disappointing to me that he didn't really care about the Pars. We're just another place he worked. That's no different to how I would feel in a lot of my old jobs but I think I live in the naive belief that there are guys who really love the team they play for.

All the blame is being put on Kevin here .

Hibs were prepared to sell him if they got another 500.000 .

My understsnding with other facts and tabloids ive read is that Kevin was happy at hibs but when he became a comodity he was not happy for his future and slapped in a transfer request .

This may be a lot of B.S ,but there is always two sides with man involved ,club ,agent ,player so not all fingers may point at Kevin .

I wouldn`t consider that Kevin had no special feelings for Raith Rovers, Dunfermline or Hibs. I would imagine he gave everything for each team he played for. Anyone who has ever played football seriously has probably played for several teams. Although, at a lower level, I can count 7 or 8 teams. I still have a real affection for each of them and I guess it`s the same for Kevin. Life moves on, players come and go.

Going by photos of him when he was a nipper he supported Hibs growing up. I think for Kevin the red flag was when he was left out at the weekend. Then something MUST have happened for him to hand in request. Agent interference or comments made in discussions between himself and club over the situation at that time.
As i said rash decision but hey I have also made a few screw up decisions in my life

There's a lot of hypocrisy in football where money is concerned. How often does it happen that a manager will criticise a player who wants away, because he's heard a bigger club are interested in him, only for that same manager to walk away as soon as he's offered more money elsewhere?

I agree with Raymie, Nisbet's mistake was submitting a transfer request. If he did, was it on the advice of his agent? And who leaked it to the media and why? Paralex is right. Footballers generally do their best for whichever clubs they happen to play for and usually retain a soft spot for them, but they are not fans, so their outlook is different - loyalty is never going to be their top priority.

How many of you, who are currently in work, would elect to remain with your present employer if you were offered considerably more to do the same job by another employer?

Charlie Adam is an interesting example - he is a Dundee fan at heart and often said he’d love to end his career with them. However, through the bulk of his career he has played at other clubs where the financial recompense was much greater. Good on him.

Unless you are a total tube with your money then a bang average player can be set for life from one 2 or 3 year contract these days, even at a smaller Premiership club, and never kick a ball for them.

Everyone wants a slice of the pie before the bottom collapases out of it (surely it has to sooner or later?) so agents are filling players heads full of mince as they know it's the golden goose.

Random point but we got chatting to a couple on holiday a few years ago now and the husband worked in the medical deparrment at Sunderland. Some of the stories you would struggle to believe but the best one was regarding Asamoah Gyan who they signed for a hell of a lot of money off the back of a strong World Cup for Ghana (so Sunderand seemed a strange destination).

Apparently the remit to his agent was wanted a 'big club' in London. So with nothing happening on that front said agent sold him on the fact that Sunderland as it "was only 30 minutes from London"......

He ended up scunnered, lasted a few months then disappeared on loan somewhere in the middle East.

The next time Sunderland were involved with the same agent for another player the issue was brought up regarding Gyan and the agent said, words to the effect, that he didn't make any false promises or lies as it was infact 'a 30 minute flight from Newcastle'.

That's what you are up against. You can see why so many managers and officials despise them :-)

Left on the bench tonight, Jack Ross denying he put in a transfer request

Ross explains Nisbet absence
St Mirren v Hibernian (18:00)

On why striker Kevin Nisbet is on the bench after a bid from Birmingham was turned down, head coach Jack Ross tells BBC Sportsound: "He’s focused on replicating the form he`s been in and the fact he`s not starting tonight is a reflection of how well the team played at the weekend.

"He’s in a good place and he’s fully aware that the only way he will attract that similar type of interest in the summer is by continuing to play well."

On reports suggesting Nisbet submitted a transfer request, Ross denies it before adding: "I think he was keen to explore an opportunity that may have been significant for him.

"I think we can all acknowledge that. You become emotional over that time. I was never going to be critical of him. It was a challenging few days for him as a young man."

Thing is, if he did and Hibs leaked it, what did they hope to achieve? Alienate an unhappy player further? It doesn't make sense if they wanted to keep him.

If he didn't put in a request, who is the mischief maker and why? I had my doubts when I saw this thread, but it's perfectly possible that Nisbet (and his agent) tabled the request in the hope of forcing Hibs to agree to the move. Jack Ross, would be failing his player if he didn't support him at this time since, reading between the lines, he was clearly keen to move to England.

It seems he denies it but also depending how it is read it is also an admition that Kevin was frustrated at not being allowed to talk to them.
Regardless Ross done well handling the media with regards to this and that's the kind of manager that Kevin needs pretty sure he will be happy with the deflection and media statement.
