Indeed. Sooner or later, many other leagues are likely to suffer the same fate. Too many have prostituded themselves to TV and neglected to foster and cultivate their own fan base. TV companies are not fans - they will only continue to pay out as long as they can make money out of the game. As soon as their profit margins drop to unacceptable levels, they'll pull out. Fans who have been alienated by exorbitant prices and awkward kick off times may be forever lost to the game.

Arguably it`s tv money that has kept the game afloat during the pandemic.

Indeed TOWK, that is a reasonable response. But in the French case Mediapro paid a ridiculously unaffordable sum for the rights, and although the Company had history of this the French footballing authorities chose to turn a blind eye to it. Truly they were mesmerised by the enormous carrot being dangled in front of them. Makes it difficult to have any sympathy; for me at any rate.

True, but that is a temporary situation and a different argument altogether, TOWK. Relying on TV money as a long term strategy is a flawed, eggs in one basket, policy.

Seems like managers these days are there to manage what they are given and bring the best out of the personnel they have.

Its not so temporary G.G. its here for a long time unfortunately :(

The tv money is a bonus for the bigger teams and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future ... Its also big income for the BT`S Sky`s etc.

towk is right

Always said scottish football was ruined the day they refused sky and went with setanta. Since then it's been screwed and never recovered. Take TV money out of game and clubs got next to nothing. It must feel like running Buckingham Palace with no taxpayers money available

Organised football has been around since 1872, BPP. That's well nigh 150 years. The pandemic is approx 1 year old now - that's relatively temporary in my thinking. I hope we're not looking at it lasting any more than another year.

I don't disagree with what TOWK said. I just think that grabbing TV money and neglecting the fans, overcharging those who attend and moving kick off times and days to suit the TV companies, will eventually lead to the demise of elite football. The diddy wee teams will carry on, as they always have.
