Wighton might do a turn for us here. He was decent enough with Arbroath in the Championship, his goal scoring record might not be amazing but he’s scored some big goals for the JT’s this season.

If he’s part of swap with Turner I’d be gobsmacked.

I work with a lot of Jambos and they’re all fairly surprised that 1) they’re even letting him go 2) they’re letting him go to a “title rival”.

Rewind a year and the chairman wouldn't let Nisbet go in in January. I'd be surprised if Turner would be allowed to. Although he can walk for free in the summer so you never know.

Looked very impressive when he came onto the scene a few years ago.

Seem to remember a bad (knee?) injury to curtail his progress but still a good pedigree and plenty time to kick on and develop.

Letting Turner go this month and not signing a creative midfielder would be terrible business and possibly see us drop out the top 4. I'd still be sad if he signs a pre contract with... Them. But that's the level we are at sadly

At the end of the day its not any fans who will make any decision on what player/players will be coming into the club
And it won`t matter if any of us are happy or unhappy at any potential signing
It will be SC that makes the decision probably along with the staff he works with and I take it he and they have a plan if Craig Wighton is mentioned
So whoever comes in will always get my backing as long as when they pull a Pars shirt on they give their all

Probably in the minority here, but if rumours are true that Turner has signed a pre-contract with Hearts then I'd be happy to get Wighton in his place and let Turner go now. Ideally keep both, but if we need to offer up Turner now to get Wighton I'd go for it.

I'm a big fan of Turner, but we're in desperate need of a striker and I think Wighton would give us an option that we don't have up top. We're relatively covered in the middle so would get by.

As I say, I'd love to have both, but Wighton would be a good signing - despite some of the views on here.

Right so according to the thread so far, Hearts fans who watch him every week are perplexed at him going (potentially) to an opponent as they think he is their best performer this season, but dotnet experts think he is not good enough for us.

Hmmmm, go figure!

If Stevie thinks Craig Wighton could be the best solution upfront, then that`s okay with me. He showed terrific potential when he was at Dundee and did pretty well at Arbroath. He`s still only 23.

He maybe doesn`t have the flamboyance and raw excitement of Duku, but he has a presence about him and knows where the net is. He is a very different style of player to O`Hara and McManus.

No doubt, the usual "expert" naysayers will jump in with their jibes, but from what I`ve seen, I`d say he`s not a million miles away from Kevin Nisbet in his style of play, both as a supplier and a finisher. He could work for us.

Here`s a hatrick he scored earlier this season for Hearts...

If he comes in he will my full backing.

As for people saying he’s no better than we have, well at the moment we have zero really. 3 games in a row without a goal.

As for Thomas and Turner, Thomas has been off it since the Hearts game and Turner is out of contract. Whilst I would be disappointed to see any of the 2 go I appreciate we are a selling club.

Let Crawford do his job he sees the boys everyday

Averaging a goal every 140 mins for Hearts this year and averaged a goal every 150 mins for Arbroath last season. Yet some people are moaning that he isn’t a goal scorer? For what it’s worth, Nisbet averaged a goal every 115 mins for us, so I’d say Wighton’s record is fairly decent.

I don’t think Wighton has taken many penalties. Which would make it a much better return than what we have just now. Excluding penalties, O’Hara has 3 goals in 791 mins (1 every 263 mins) and McManus has 4 from 1,488 mins (1 every 372 mins). I feel like the penalties can make it look like our strikers are more prolific than they actually are.

Wighton also offers a greater physical presence and is surely a better option to offer an aerial threat than McCann currently is.

I wasn't going to chip in as I've only ever seen him play for Hearts in the games this season that my girlfriend was watching and to be honest he seemed a fairly decent player but that is based on 3 or 4 games and it does seem to be the games he scored in. He didn't seem to merit the stick he's had but at the same time isn't the diamond in the rough that Nisbet was.

Would hopefully do a job if he does come.

Although this deal has not been confirmed looks like it might be just a matter of the announcement.

From the daily record -

Brian Rice has revealed Craig Wighton has turned down a move to Hamilton Accies in favour of Dunfermline.

Brian Rice said this - We offered something to Craig and he’s turned it down.
I believe he’s going to Dunfermline.
That’s another one turned us down, but we are still working away.

Pars fan mentality: if someone "rubbish" leaves us they'll be a star elsewhere. If someone "rubbish" joins us they'll be awful.

Remember Pars fans thinking it was a disgrace that we signed a particular player to play alongside one Stevie Crawford...

Could be a decent signing for us. I would rather we signed someone on a permanent deal but we`ve really need another striker and he is one highly rated by many Hearts fans I know. I think the problem most people have is that we should be going for a player who is a proven goalscorer. At our level however, this is difficult to find, especially in January. Who knows though? Maybe Wighton will score a barrel load! He`ll be desperate to prove a point! I would love it to be similar to when Raith loaned Vaughn to Dumbarton!!

I was a bit hacked off on Saturday evening at how poor in front of goal we are. However, I watched the highlights back today and feel on another day we`d have scored 2/3. McManus`s one off the line is good defending more than anything else, Dows` header and then McManus shot late on. If he puts that any other side of the keeper it`s a goal. If anything it reminded me that Craig Gordon is still one of the best goalie`s in Scotland. If we

if the gap at the top goes up to 15 points or something by the end of the month then it might happen assuming there is no random rule blocking teams in the same division loaning players to each other this month.
no matter what Hearts think of him, good or bad, i cant see them taking the risk of loaning him to a rival which could hurt them.....unlike Raith a couple of years ago.

Personally, I think this is an exciting signing and demonstrates our club’s ambition in what is a difficult time for everyone. I suspect that SC has half an eye on possible promotion. Much better to have a player like this - with significant experience, some of it in the Scottish Premiership, and with proven goal scoring capabilities - signed on a PCA than to start desperately hunting for someone of similar calibre come the end of the season. A great piece of business.

Andy Ryan was a more proven goalscorer..

Welcome to pars Craig hope he will get a run off games with us next season and increase his goal stats.

He has always been highly rated at other clubs and just look at his slick finishing on YouTube.

A good season with us maybe big money move offers aka nesbit. Strikers the most value to clubs. Everyone happy.

I think we may have been looking at a fee to get him now but it depended on Nisbet being sold.

That’s what I wandered parrot.

After loosing to them last week I would have though they would be happy to have him off the wage bill and let him go but they might worry he rips the league up and it’s closer in the end however unlikely that is.

Just sitting here drenched in my own negativity!

The Courier reporting in the last wee while that he won’t feature much in Neilson’s plans between now and the end of the season. Also mentions we turned down the chance to get Wighton now by paying a fee. Neilson wasn’t prepared to let a guy who has scored goals go for nothing.

Fee for a player who isn't getting game time and had 6 months left? Money that tight at Hearts?

I think Hearts paid Dundee 250k for him, so depending on how the transfer was structured, there could be an issue with residuals. That`s only a guess though.

ROBBIE NEILSON has confirmed that Craig Wighton’s opportunities for the remainder of this season are likely to be limited after the striker penned a pre-contract with Dunfermline.

However, the Hearts boss insists the Fifers’ unwillingness to pay a fee for the ex-Dundee favourite ensured there was no chance of him making the switch in January.

Wighton, 23, has scored seven goals in 15 games for the Jambos this term and will remain part of the first-team group and available for selection.

Hearts striker Craig Wighton | Hearts news

But Neilson has emphasised that he must focus on players who are guaranteed to be at the club beyond the summer.

He said: “Craig will still be training and working away here but we’ve got [Liam] Boyce and [Armand] Gnanduillet in there. We’ve got other guys who will be here longer term.

“At this moment in time Craig is still a first-team player but he will sign with Dunfermline and start to prepare for next season.

“We just felt it was time for him to go and get consistent game time.”

Despite Wighton’s impending role as a bit-part player, Neilson gave short shrift to the notion of Hearts allowing him to join the Pars — arguably their prime title rivals — early.

Neilson added: “If there was a deal to be done and they [Dunfermline] wanted to pay a fee for him, then we would have been more than happy to do that.

“But Craig has scored a number of goals and we aren’t going to let a guy who has scored a number of goals just walk out on a free.”

"...Neilson added: “If there was a deal to be done and they [Dunfermline] wanted to pay a fee for him, then we would have been more than happy to do that...."

He really is an arrogant tube isn't he. I'm sure if we could afford it we would have, like if we'd got a windfall from Nisbet moving.

Neilson sounds like he's got the mentality of an old firm fan. Smaller clubs are just a pain.

I`d love to say he "hates the Pars" but the guy is perma-raging & hates everybody.

I sat next to him in the main stand one day when he was at United (I was in hospitality) he was with another ex-pro who I recognised after the game as the Dundee boss James McPake. I tried to make conversation with Neilson when we took our seat before the game & he was not having it. He really is a torn faced hoor of a man.

It wouldn`t surprise me if Wighton didn`t feature again for Hearts.

To be fair, you can`t blame Hearts for wanting a fee if he were to join now.

Imagine if we`d let Murray go for nowt in January?

It`s business

I wonder how much they were looking for?

Say Wighton was on £500 a week that’s 2k a month x 4 so 8k is what he could cost Hearts you would think they would want to free that up.

They could only have been asking us for 5k and IMO we would’ve been stupid to pay that plus take on the wage.

I think as the month goes on we may see him arrive on loan

If leagues 1/2 re start and we can get some boys out on loan to free up some wages this could contribute. We have at least 5 players we can send out on loan

Can see his point though.

Not that it's going to happen but imagine if he left for free, scored a fair few for us and Hearts collapsed and blew the league. Thinking back to Strachans reasoning for not letting James O'Brien play in the cup final against Celtic whilst on loan with us.

Wonder why they haven`t just fired him on loan and we`d cover the wages?

Would only been a nominal fee if any but getting him for next season will do for me.

Neilson still obviously sees us as a threat to his team winning the league imho, and to say he is a lad who scores goals then gotta question why he wont pick him this now for Hearts as he is their player and scores goals for them!

Robbie Neilson has cautioned his Hearts players they must ‘win ugly’ in their next two games if they want to continue their march to the Championship title.
But he warned his new signings it was likely to be a ‘blood and thunder’ introduction to the Scottish game on two of the division’s less than pristine pitches - including a synthetic surface in Dumfries.

“I’ve won this league twice before and there are a lot of games like that where you just need to grind it,” Nielsen admitted.

“The surfaces aren’t going to be conducive to brilliant, free-flowing football, teams go direct, it’s knockdowns, it’s free-kicks, it’s corners, it’s second balls.

“It’s two Friday night games, Ayr on the grass and Queens on the astro. We need to get prepared for that and make sure we try to get three points again.”

Noticed our new signing wasn’t in the Hearts squad for the 3rd game in a row last night. He hasn’t played at all in the last 5 but was an unused sub in their home defeat to Raith. Last appearance was 2nd Jan.

Really wish we’d been able to get him in now. Not ideal if he’s not playing between now and the end of the season.

You can understand why Hearts would be reluctant to let him join us, and also why we need to cautious financially. It seems unlikely that he will get much game time but I don`t think that`s such a big problem. Come the start of next season he`ll be in the same boat as all the other players after the summer break.

I also think even without him coming, it`s still a boost right now to our strikers, they can see more competition is coming and they need to show now what they can do. Almost everywhere in the squad there is genuine competition for places. Now we can leave Thomas out the squad entirely. Murray and Watson have both been excellent, but if their forms drops, this new Lithuanian should be knocking at the door. If Lewis Martin was fit then I`d say there is at least 2 genuine quality options for every position whether we play 4-5-1, 4-4-2 or some variant of these.

Could work on our favour tho.

At least him not playing means he can't get injured!

Plus if he's been kicking his heels for 6 months then he'll probably come in raring to go.

Hopefully 🤔🤔

Yeah it could totally work in our favour. Hopefully keeps himself fit, looking at his photos from Dundee/Arbroath to now he looks to have put on a fair bit of weight. I have a feeling Mr Wighton might be out with a point to prove. Here’s hoping!

Given Robbie Neilson's comments about not letting Wighton leave Hearts because we wouldn't pay a fee, he seems to be unaware that the £500k Government grant was conditional on each club in the Championship not paying transfer fees.

I don't think that's 100% correct. You weren't allowed to use that money for transfer fees but if you had a positive balance already you could still pay a fee from those funds I believe.
