Neilson will be the next Celtic manager if he keeps up that moaning. Never a penalty.

Never a penalty if you go with the new rules
I wonder if that moaning Nelson did at half time to the ref influenced the ref`s decision ? because he gave it right away

I think it's more than just moaning, Hearts probably should have had a penalty in the first half and the ref will know it and he's made a second poor decision under the pressure of knowing he'd arsed the first one. I've made the point for VAR before that getting the first one right normally results in the second being right too. We'll now have to listen to quotes about things evening themselves up.

Crap game for a neutral and terrible decision for the penalty after missing a pretty solid shout for a Hearts penalty in the first half.

Don’t know what’s harder to watch the game or Jonathan Sutherland. He is terrible. No wonder they punted him out the studio and put Steven Thompson in.

Got to be someone better? Even Alasdair Lamont on commentary is poor, did it not used to be Liam McLeod

Agreed.
Unless you really think there is a chance of winning the league, it's good that other teams like Morton, ICT, Ayr etc drop points so that we are safely in a play-off position and can prepare for those crucial games.

A game low on quality but there was a very strong wind blowing down the pitch. Did Ayr manage a shot on goal-dont think the did. Only Ayr player who caught the eye was N`Daba. Best for Hearts were Walker and Boyce.

Sick of this . Evenry time Hearts beat one of our play off rivals "it,'s a good result for us " nonsense .
For all that we had been on a poor run and not playing particularly well , If , at Tyncastle last week we had got the break instead of hearts , we'd have been within 3 points of them .
They're just not that brilliant . Let Neilson big them up . We don't need to .

the importance of scoring the first goal in this league is so important. After Ayr went behind and hearts played the ball around they rarely got up the pitch.

In the last 10 league games we have won 3. We’re fortunate results have been going our way in truth as we could easily have been out the playoffs right now.

On that form I’m not really thinking of us as title challengers.

Hearts will win the league so in my view the more teams that get put to the sword by them the better for us.

That's exactly my point tho Berry .
Despite the fact that we had had a poor run , we had an opportunity to get close to them last week . If they were "all that" , then we shouldn't even have been within shouting distance of them .
It feels at times on here that we've been to quick to "big up" hearts .
Christ , some of us had given up before we had kicked a ball .

Yeah I can see your point of view and agree that Hearts aren’t blowing anyone away. I just can’t see any team going forward maintaining such a level of consistency to really give Hearts much to worry about.

That victory last night has us 7 points within the playoffs, a healthy margin, if Ayr had won last night it would’ve been much tighter.

We’ve now got a winnable tie today which can increase the gap to 10.

So it’s a case of would you rather be closer to a Hearts team likely to win the league anyway and keep it tight in the playoff picture or Hearts pulling away denting other teams hopes of playoffs and catching up with us.

My preference is the latter. This season I genuinely think we have a shot of getting promoted via the playoffs.

Ofcourse the ideal would be we pummel every team in front of us each week but sadly that won’t be happening.

Hearts are going to win the league with a bit to spare.

Play offs are three from six between us, Rovers, Dundee, Ayr, Caley and Morton. Hopefully Caleys fixture pile up wears them out.

I'm reasonably confident it will be ourselves, rovers and Dundee but anyone's guess on the positions.

If you add some context to the last ten games though it's not really the playoff crippling form it's been portrayed as.

Of the 10 games games we've played 6 were away and even without fans home teams in the Championship still win more than away teams:

Home wins - 48%
Draws - 28%
Away wins - 24%

The away win % of the league has also been boosted by Hearts winning 5 out of their 7 away games.

Our six away games have been:

Hearts
Morton
Inverness
Dundee
Raith
Ayr

It's no surprise to get turned over away at Tynecastle but we put in a decent performance and actually created the better chances prior to Walker scoring an excellent goal.

We've drawn the other 5. ICT and Dundee are unbeaten at home this season. Ayr have only lost to Hearts. Morton have lost to Hearts and Arbroath but is never an easy away game. The Rovers are third and have lost two games, one of which was Hearts again and the other was QoS.

It's a bit of a simplistic rule but there was the old saying: if you win your home games and pick up draws away then you'll be there abouts come the end of the season.

Our home record is the second best in the league although Dundee are marginally ahead of us on a points per game basis.

Of our 4 home games we've spanked the Rovers and edged past Arbroath. Drawn against Ayr and lost to Morton.

Out of the ten how many of those are truly bad results? Whilst you want to win every game I don't think any if the away games were bad results for the reasons I've outlined above.

Beaten at home by Morton you might be looking at a draw minimum and the draw against Ayr isn't a disaster but you might be hoping for win but teams can't win every game; even Hearts.

Hearts are beating the majority of sides below us so for us to have dropped out of the playoffs 3 teams from 8 had to over take us when we'd only lost one game to a team below us in the remaining 9. The other teams have to go away to grounds where weren't losing and its almost impossible for the three sides below us to win games to overtake us as they were normally losing to Hearts and then had to play each other.

The ten game form table is:

Hearts 24
Dundee 16
ICT 14
Pars 14
Rovers 14
QoS 14
Ayr 12
Morton 11
Arbroath 10
Alloa 7

And again that's with us having 6 away games vs 4 home games. It would have to have been some pretty specific results to have seen us fall out of the playoffs.

Could results have been better? Yes they could they almost always could but outside of Hearts this is a competitive league and we appear hard to beat which is a good foundation for most sides.

Appreciate its not the most exciting post on .Net but despite catchy stats like only winning 3 in 10 I do think we're in a bit better shape than that stat says and you need to dig a bit deeper especially if you're having a bet.

Don’t disagree, but if you want to be challenging for the title you need to be grinding out wins and avoiding so many draws.
