Would enjoy some clarity on Thomas. Even just a little bit. He cant be injured, someone would have said. Maybe he`s done at the club, Andy Ryanesque.

On paper we seem to be going for it, 2 strikers on, which is probably a decent idea as I can see it being a box to box mess of wind and slippery nonsense.

I wonder if the absence of Thomas has anything to do with breaking covid restrictions. Strange he's not even getting a place on the bench. Surely a training ground incident wasn't that bad.

When the weather is like this and the pitch is in this condition you just have to get through the half. Unlucky with the huge deflection on the goal. Just need to push the advantage the other way in the 2nd half

Arbroath have always made the most of the strong winds at Gayfield. We’ve seen that in the past.

Heather fae the BBC says it’s the home side who have been on the front foot so far this half.

Winds making the game farcical. Players struggling to run into the wind, OFW can barely kick the ball out his box whole they're goalkeeper is kicking it into our box....

Second half Murray needs to be shooting on sight.

I can’t tell if folk are being serious and have absolutely no idea or are just trolling. We are completely boxed in, Arbroath are pushed right up and there’s very little we can do with the conditions against us. 2-0 at ht against this isn’t a disaster. Hopefully we can capitalise second half.

I can’t tell if folk are being serious and have absolutely no idea or are just trolling. We are completely boxed in, Arbroath are pushed right up and there’s very little we can do with the conditions against us. 2-0 at ht against this isn’t a disaster. Hopefully we can capitalise second half.

Craw started with 2 up front but we should have made some quick positional changes to be more defensive once we saw the extent of wind, then switch back 2nd half

2-0 isn`t too bad considering we cannot get out of our half
it`s our turn next half !
So as someone else said we need to use the wind and shoot on sight when possible !! get it on target and you have half a chance of scoring

Folk calling this game to be abandoned, get a grip. Wouldn`t be calling for that if we were 2 nil up.

Dunno why folk are confident we`ll turn this around, it`s us after all? Very easy to say shoot on sight, but they will be no mugs, they will charge down every possible shot.

Ridiculous blaming the weather for the scoreline and the state of play.

If Arbroath can play it in so can we.

It’s our own fault if we’ve not taken anything from previous matches at Gayfield.

Let’s hope we can get a hold of it all in the second half.

Conditions ain’t helped but we have been poor.

Surprised Craw went with 2 up front thought we might flood the midfield considering we couldn’t get out our half and stop shots so on.

Let’s see if we use the wind like they have

How's it ridiculous? If you've been watching it, players are struggling running into wind, OFW can barely kick the ball out his box with it dropping vertically out the sky, while they're keeper kicks it to our box.... Wind has had a massive say in this game so far.... We just need to use it the same way they did.

folk moan when try pass the ball, say hump it forward !!

when hump it forward they scream get it on the deck!!

All very well saying shoot on sight, then the wind catches the ball and it soars miles over.

All very well saying oh we will have the wind in 2nd half but situation has changed with the score, Arbroath then sit in and we have to push on and leave gaps at the back.

Sadly, this was why we were never going to win the league. We are capable of playing brilliant one week then poor for 2/3 games. When we are poor we never look like scoring and that is one thing teams like Raith seem capable of doing most weeks. We should be aiming for 2nd/3rd place.

I`m assuming somethings up with Kyle Turner if Matty Todd is getting on before him?

Trying to play football in this half with the huge wind advantage is what’s cost us. This has been a huge tactical mistake. We needed to just punt it out for goal kicks when there was nothing on, then box them in from their own goal kick, rinse and repeat and keep constant pressure on. We’ve spent far too long fannying about in the middle of the park.

He`s played 4 or 5 relatively inexperienced players in midfield/forward areas who probably haven`t played much in this kind of wind and its pretty alien to them, whereas arbroath know exactly how to play in it.

We have simply been garbage , and how many shots have we tried using the wind
There should be no excuses from Players or management today we have played here often enough so we know what to expect !!

Just for the record we have played AT Arbroath 6 times since season 13/14 and won 4, drawn 1 and lost 1, that was before today.
The last 10 times we have played there takes you back to season 83/84 the record is won 6, drawn 2 and lost 2, again before todays result.
So no bogey venue by any means.

This. Arbroath showed us what to do and instead we tried to play passing football? OFW trying to play out from the back with 5 min to go, really? We should've made more of the chances we had but second half we just didn't use the conditions to our advantage like we should've and they did.

I know conditions are the same for both, and you need to adapt etc, but who wants to watch that kind of game, where the wind totally ruins it?

Edit, spelling.

Looked like there was only one team up for this today and it showed !!
So I will take it on the chin ,we were absolutely hapless in every area of the park also second to most balls I keep hearing from players interviews what their aim is this season a few more performances like this and they can forget any inspirations they have ,and if truth be told The win against Raith was our only highlight since we beat Hearts other performances have been bang average and probably with an element of luck in some of them we scraped out a draw , on the day Arbroath deserved their win as they were hungrier than us
Not happy that we have given up 2nd place to the wee team who also have a game in hand

If we had won today and then go on to beat Dundee next Saturday it would send out a statement ! on today`s performance we have also sent out a statement to other clubs

First time I have been genuinely angry at a football match for a good wee while. Total clown-shoe stuff from management and players today. A ein against the Wee Team isn’t going to gloss over it.

The management team haven't a clue! 😢😢

Clearly they had the benefit of playing against a team that wasn't playing with 10 men behind the ball first half although arguably we should have been.
They could sit in second half and just break up play.
Very frustrating to watch the same low diagonal ball get played in from the left side and get picked off by their defence about 6 times. Honestly can't see why we couldn't be taking pot shots from well out and following them in.

If you want to sum up that performance the arbroath commentators nailed.

They did not look up for it.

Terrible in the first half against the wind and with the wind clueless.

This type of inconsistency is now becoming rather frustrating

What a chance to put a bit of daylight between ourselves and Raith/Dundee and we serve up that guff. Like some above, really angry with that today. Outfought and no clue how to attempt to win that game. Absolutely amateur.

Let's be honest the table doesn't lie. Every team with the exemption of maybe hearts are inconsistent that's why we are where we are . We had our worst spell of the season so far before we beat raith mid-week . We are still in the playoffs shows everyone is in the same boat and can't string a decent run together.

Should the game have been played in a wind like that? I`d say probably not. However, it was, and once the game starts you have to get on with it and adapt to the conditions as best possible.

That was dire today, pretty much an exact replica of the windy game at Gayfield last season where Arbroath were far better playing into the wind than we were and also far better with the wind behind them. There`s no two ways about it - Arbroath were easily the better team today and comfortably deserved the points.

Let`s not have any argument of `but, but, but - it was windy and conditions were a joke`. That is not in doubt and if we`d happened to lose a tight game that was a lottery because of the conditions I wouldn`t be especially bothered - that would just be one ofthose things. It didn`t come down to chance though - the result was due to one team looking like they didn`t have the slightest clue as to how to play in the wind.

the result is irrelevant, that game should never have been played end of story and raises the question what did Napier think it would take for it to be postponed/abandoned?

Didn’t watch the game. Haven’t a clue what the formation was.

Have skimmed through the posts (appreciate the time and effort everyone provides on the forum) and there’s not really any major surprises for me.

Putting it in to some sort of (personal) perspective; losing at Arbroath isn’t a major surprise...they’re capable of getting results against anyone in the Championship - they’ve proved that over the last couple of seasons.

Biggest concern I have is the apparent inability to score goals just now. According to BBC stats, we had 12 shots with 4 on target while Arbroath had 14 shots also 4 on target. Somehow, they end up with a 2-0 victory.

However considering that, up until 1/4 to 5 this afternoon, we had actually lost less games than Hearts this season and had a better GD than RR ... we can’t be doing that bad .... glass half full?

Surprisingly perhaps, the BBC stats show us as having 51% possession and 12 shots to Arbroath`s 14 but both teams had 4 shots on target and 5 corners each. There`s no doubt Arbroath played the conditions better than we did and that may be because they`re more used to them. It`s easier to defend a two-goal lead in these circumstances than it is to chase one so if, as was suggested, we won the toss and chose to kick against the wind that probably cost us the game.

I don’t go over the top when we win and neither do I go overboard when we lose.

An already difficult game, was made tougher in appalling conditions.
Arbroath’s greater experience of playing in very strong winds was clear to see.

Take it on the chin, learn from it and move on

To give some credit to Arbroath, they were well organised and had a few outstanding performances. Linn was brilliant in the first half and Hamilton up front led the line in the way we wish McManus could.

As much as they were good we should still be beating them. I'd go as far as to say it's one of the worst performances from a Crawford team, made all the more frustrating by how good they were the other night.

We should have kicked with the wind and tried to get a goal or 2 and then defend a lead ! but on the other hand Eck apart from Wednesday night against Raith Scoring Goals has been a big problem for us

Arbroath played the game tactility spot on.
We were poor today and should have made the team more defensive in the 1st half.
Big Dick has the experience to use the weather conditions up there but I’m sure Craw will learn the next time conditions are like that.
A bad day at the office but we will bounce back.

was it though? take out a massive deflection and the luck of a shot going straight to the guy for an open goal, was there much difference between the two teams? im not sure there was.

I personally don't think trying to play passing football was the problem - after all it is something we are relatively good at. The issue for me was the complete lack of graft and desire across the entire midfield. Arbroath were winning nearly all of the 50-50 balls.

Great result and performance against the rovers no matter the conditions today we go into that game with confidence instead we got nothing.

Arbroath played with the weather conditions and had their tactics set out from the start.
Maybe Just maybe SC has not set a team out in such conditions before and we got a doing... next time he will be able to look back and put a team out to cope.
We have to get Turner back in CM as quick as possible.
A bad day at the office but anything can go either way in the championship.

Crawford certainly has set out a team in those conditions - first visit to Arbroath last season and performance was remarkably similar.

Agree we need Turner back in quickly - whatever he’s done to annoy Crawford I sincerely hope they can sort out their differences - don’t see the point of even having him on the bench if we’re bringing on Todd ahead of him.

Attitude was fantastic on Wednesday in horrendous conditions - felt today that they just thought it would be easy playing with the wind in the second half but we were very poor - never put Arbroath under enough pressure.

I think if the ball was moving on the surface constantly or the goalie was unable to clear his own box then it would be called. It was certainly marginal but conditions is part of playing an outdoor sport in winter.

so taking goal kicks and them catching the wind sailing onto the top of the stand is just part of playing an outdoor sport in winter.... 4 times in a row ?

Players were booting the ball clear from defensive positions into the wind and then next touch of the ball was 5 yards infront of them was the wind blew the ball back! 1st half when pars had a corner it got cleared to edge of the box where Arbroath player nudged it away from pars play and ball ran out of play 30 yards from our goal for a throw in !! The lad literally just flicked it away and balls gone 60 odd yards!!!
