But you have to say Diabolic defending and what was OFW doing ?

Alloa were getting a lot of players into our half and when we were playing ball out from the back doing a a 4 man press meaning our defenders were under pressure as soon as receiving the pass. Central midfield is where the problem lies.
On th epositive front Edwards is having a good game and Wighton has got a goal. Feel that game could go either way.

Alloa also changed the formation after we had scored and basically have 5 players going forward most of the time.

I just don't think Mayo and Wilson work together in the middle. Both good players, but both deep lying players. That's where we miss Turner.

Stopped playing after our goal. Need a big improvement after the break.

PARS207
in response to your question which I think you have taken the wrong way I did not imply we have sat back or gave them the ball for a bit
before they scored if you were watching our play everything was a little lethargic for about 10 mins and we were not shutting their midfield down quick enough which is allowing Alloa to come into the game and to get closer to our defense and also shut us down in midfield so we cannot pick a pass
I think we should be doing the pressing and get into them
Hopefully in the second half we will up the tempo again

Decent win but a poor performance once again. Good thing Wighton was clinical with his finishing and hopefully there is more of that to come. There were some shock results today so it was important to get 3 points on the board. Hopefully we can get a result at Palmerston next week. Tough place to go with the form they are in but if we play to our ability, I would expect a win.

Play poorly and still win. Thats a good result in my book. Its about points at this stage rather than performances. The pressure seems to be showing a bit, but hopefully a phase we will get through relatively unscathed.

Good result and results elsewhere also decent. Another poor display overall though, once Alloa scored we seemed to lose ability to pass the ball and exploit space left by alloa pressing high wfich we done well for large spells in first half.

Macdonald done well but hopefully comries injury not serious

Before the game if you’d have said we’d win 2-1, then I’d have said “take that, happy days”.

Take that, happy days.

Alloa are a very good side, this part time stuff at Championship level is a red herring at times, and probably more so just now with the current restrictions. No easy game in this league and there’s not even a fag paper between many teams in this division.

Played off the park by bottom of the league, part time Alloa at home but stole the points.

We should be performing far better with the players we have.

The worrying thing though is we are playing poorly far too often. With the calibre of players we have here we could/should be playing some great stuff and getting good results..but for some reason we can turn it on against Raith and Hearts but the rest of the time it’s poor.

Absolutely dire performance But like others happy to get the three points
Definitely no easy game in the championship and Alloa are a better team than a lot give credit to
Hope next game we can defend better , a lot of our clearances were just punts anywhere which ended up normally at the foot of an Alloa player today
Saying that Happy to get the win !! as it turns out a very good 3 points

not pretty but doesn`t matter, 3 points and back into 2nd in the league.

we always seem to struggle against this lot at home, but despite the possession they had, did they actually cut us open and have clear cut chances.... i cant think of any!

got lucky with the disallowed goal , i would been screaming blue murder if we had been robbed off that but nice to see a decision go our way for a change.

with the shortened season, its all about getting the points on the board and getting that play off slot secured, if meant we were shocking for rest of season and won the games with last kick of the game then so be it.

onto Dumfries next week and will happily take a point down there next week

no one will be happy with the performance especially 2nd half, but would u have preferred to be all out attack having a go but conceding 3 or 4 to them and getting beat? no u take the points and move on despite how bad or well u have played.

Don`t get all the moaning and the " with the calibre of player we have " guff. Take a look at the other scores in the Championship today. There`s hardly anything between the teams in this league. Don`t think we deserved 3 points today but we ground it out. Too many fans still underestimate the likes of Alloa and Arbroath, it`s been the same for years. With the exception of a dire Brechin team a few years ago, this league has been dog eat dog for as long as I can remember.

I was looking forward to todays game, new players in, and a home match v the leagues bottom team, and after a decent start we get an early goal, happy days... but after that we were hopeless...thank goodness for Wighton. Alloa looked hungry, they seemed to win every ball....everytime we tried to work up from the back we lost possession, it was one way traffic.....Orwain really must stay behind to do some goal kicking practice ...every game he kicks half of the place kicks into the stand....most worrying thing for me was our passing which was woeful and our pressing, which we didnt do to any great effect, and we gave Alloa acres of space...On the plus side, I liked what I saw from Wighton, looks like a goal sniffer. I also think we have missed Kyle Turners invention in midfield in recent weeks... but today was not a fun watch.

correct 1985par, its the scottish championship at the end of the day, everyone can have bad and good days, but if your having a bad day but still taking 3 points, then that says something about the character and belief of the squad and management.

those early games in the season we were not playing brilliant football and hammering teams left right and centre, you do what you need to do to win the game.

alloa and arbroath have had their place in the league and on merit, doesnt matter if they full or part time, part time at this level isnt just 20 stone centre halfs u see in league 2, the amount of time training isnt vastly different in terms of on the training field, fitness wise number of the part time guys will be fitter than full time players.

to show u bout the league and how up and down it is, ayr ok with some games in hand are now 2nd bottom !!

I’d have called that a “curate’s egg” of a game; that is, good in parts. I really thought we had an impressive first half hour. We had Alloa chasing shadows, the passing was impressive and we looked threatening every time we moved forward. Alloa then took control in the last ten minutes of the half. I was expecting a regrouping on our part at half-time. In fact we were just awful. When Banks was substituted it got worse. Our shape went narrow, Alloa crucified us on both wings and always looked more like scoring. So, the result is gratefully accepted but next Saturday is going to be a real test and SC has some real thinking to do about the shape of the team. Is midfield our biggest problem? I still think the defence is a big issue, but if AFW would command his area more he might instil a bit more confidence in his colleagues. He just stands stock still within the goalmouth waiting for the ball to come to him. As a result it’s all just so panicky. For example, how many times did Mayo boot the ball out, straight to an opponent? One huge positive was Wighton. He has the sort of vision in his movement and use of the ball which is a joy to watch. He’s a great acquisition.

I know I`m risking the wrath of the folk who are keen to come out with the `some folk are never happy` stuff, but there you go. Sometimes that`s what happens when you say honestly in some detail what you think.

Alloa were really good in the second half but it infuritated me that we kept doing stupid things with the ball and putting ourselves under extra pressure, on top of what we were subjected to anyway. We`ve been hanging on a bit and we get the ball in the full back area - is the better option to play a percentage ball down the line or play a hospital pass into the middle of the pitch to a player with a man right on his shoulder? We`re sturggling and under pressure but our goalkeeper gets the ball - is the better option a percentage hoof up the park or a dink out to your winger on the halfway line? It just seemed like a series of inexplicable decisions in constant pursuit of playing it nice and short, rather than doing the right things to see out the game and make sure of the points.

Some people have rubbished suggestions that we don`t change how we play, evidencing the various formations we`ve used this seasons. However, looking beyond the shape of the team, we are one-dimensional in our style of play. Everything has to be short and beat, and today took that to a ridiculous extent. In the first half we did OK with it - playing it around at the back made me a bit nervous but generally we managed to get out and got some good positions up the park as a result. We were a bit unlucky not to be ahead at half-time as we`d been the better side, got a lead and didn`t look in much danger.

Josh Edwards was being asked to try too much in the first half. Twice we gave the ball away in stupid positions because he took a shy straight into the middle of the pitch and he was also playing passes out that he didn`t look entirely comfortable with. The whole game plan today seemed to be to take a few more chances at the back with the aim of opening up space further up the pitch but, as I say, I think we went too far with that in the second half by playing ourselves into ridiculous situations.

However, that was a great win in the end. I`ll give a lot of credit to the two in the middle of defence for holding out, and also credit due to the goalkeeper for making one good save low down that could easily have slipped in. Unfortunately I missed the build-up to the second goal as the stream dropped for a few minutes and it came back exactly as the ball was hitting the net. Looked a good ball in with good pace on it but I only saw the replay so didn`t see the rest of the move before that.

In general we haven`t been playing too badly recently (Arbroath excepted and that was a joke of a game) and I don`t think we`ve had many breaks. We lost a tight game to Hearts when we might well have taken a point, and drew a tight game agaisnt Morton when we were slightly the better team. Results early in the season were probably a bit better than our play deserved, rec

Remember Nicky Clark got pelters for being 'lazy' and McManus was a busy body who chased down lost causes and ran himself into the ground which seemed to tick the right boxes for a lot of the punters.

I thought we were far better than them for the first half-hour which is easy to forget after the way the second half went. It was alarming how the whole team lost their composure on the ball but there`s more to a game than dominating the midfield and Alloa must be wondering how they lost two goals without being under much pressure.

I`ve never been impressed by Wighton much when he`s played against us but he impressed me today. He`s strong and clever on the ball and much better-suited to playing on his own up front than McManus or O`Hara.

Tongue in cheek i hope!!

It was actually almost orchestrated, almost to point they took it in turns to have a pop and rotated out. Between him, assistant, GK coach etc etc.....was akin to the Aussie cricket team of 10 years ago :-p

I think Peter Grant has every right to be furious and this is a perfect example that being the better team, playing better football doesn’t guarantee a win. Under the circumstances, this was a game that the referee could have provided a ‘get out of jail’ card for Alloa - but, didn’t.

I can see, and I’m certain most pars fans can too, how infuriating these games are .... we’ve all got the t-shirts, right?

I agree with most of what socks says above; today a lot really stupid decisions and choices were being made by players in black & white. Mostly opting to play or pass into congested areas, when there was space and better alternatives available. We really should sort that out, it’s schoolboy stuff really.

So, we got a win our play didn’t deserve. I hope the tide turns soon for Alloa - on today’s performance you could easily have thought they were challenging for a promotion play-off spot, rather than propping up the table.

Well, I don`t think Peter Grant does himself or his club any favours with these comments. He contradicted himself a few times. He said the ref couldn`t tell him why he was booked then he admitted he swore at him! We all get frustrated when refereeing decisions go against us but he takes it too far. Maybe he should ask himself how his team lost two goals. It happens every week in football - one team takes their chances, the other doesn`t.

on our play today, its one of those days that maybe it was a good idea not to be sat at EEP with our fans lol

seemed to want to take everything short and pass the ball around at the back and from the back, which is apparently what most people on here want to see, but did it work or did it look comfortable..... i would suggest it didnt, so when fans would start moaning at the game about it, the players would prob resort to hitting it more direct, then fans moan about the apparent long ball !

with Dowser being out long term it would appear, he was the main target from goal kicks for example, whether it was scully, gill or fonners, our keepers can only seem to hit the ball a very short distance, certainly aint the man city keeper level thats for sure lol so wonder why they dont for the goal kicks swap mayo/wilson with murray/banks today just to restart the game so we have a target to go win the ball onto the strikers?

on todays team and set up, thought before the game it was fair, the midfield duo played very well in last game at home against raith, wilson especially is more than a defensive midfielder, the wide players pretty much picked themselves with what was available and match fit, back 4 and keeper self explanatory, and was choice between declan and kevin to join craig up front.

we got caught out a both with their full backs bombing on, and didnt seem to take enough from that going forward ourselves with the spaces that were there, while in midfield the rotation and movement of the alloa players has always been difficult to deal with, though imho they didnt create any clear cut chances which with the amount of possession then had you would think they were bound to create.

thought banks looked lively but maybe a bit too keen to do it all himself in the 1st 25 mins or so but then drifted out the game totally.

subs for me where probably correct looking back, certainly in the way the game was going so was correct to look at closing up areas, keep our shape rather than chucking on 3 strikers as some no doubt would on here to push us further ahead.

3 points when you dont play well is a sign of character and belief in the squad and management.

There is no easy games in this league. Every team on their day can beat each other.
Alloa beat hearts earlier this season in cup.
We are in a brilliant position, tough run of 6 games coming up.

Just looked at fixture list and yeah all could be problematic. If we walk away with 12-15 points from those 6 games I will be happy, if we get more then delighted, seems to be the tough games when we tend to play better.

Next week we should drop Mcmanus and play Ohara along with Wighton. The reason I say this is, that Ohara is the better player on plastic.
