If Celtic fans have a look at the Ipswich fans forum they’ll be horrified (or his managerial record with the exception of 1 season).

Still can’t forgive him for his outrageous dive at East End.

When I think of Lambert I always picture him being blootered by Albertz knee for some reason.
He didn't look too good after that challenge if I recall correctly 🤣

Seem to recall him lying on his side spitting his teeth out.

Let it go guys, FFS.! How many years ago was it? Save your contempt - hatred even - for more deserving excuses for human beings like paedophiles, hitmen and drug dealers.

I don't condone diving in any shape or form. It's cheating, pure and simple, but it's endemic in football. Why pick on Lambert? Is he the only player to have dived against the Pars?

Why does diving raise the hackles so much in this country? Most Latin countries accept it - and even admire it - as part and parcel of the game. They see it as a way of getting even with cynical defenders, who are not averse to a bit of sly fouling (cheating) to prevent a goal scoring opportunity. No number of wrongs make a right, of course, but there's a certain perverse logic to that.

His odds on becoming the next Celtic manager have tumbled since he joined the ranks of the unemployed, but I can't see it. He's already on record as saying he enjoyed his 8 years at Parkhead and wouldn't want to tarnish that by taking on the manager's job and given the shambles he'd inherit, who could blame him? Lambert was a fine player for Celtic and Scotland in his prime and a European Champion with BVB. To rejoice in his brutal assault from Albertz is the pits, imo.

Schadenfreude must rank as one of the least noble of all human emotions.

Think it’s just a bit of banter and reminiscing about the dive.

Referring to it as hatred and to save it for paedophiles is a bit unnecessary if you ask me, not sure why it had to go down that path.

Yea, you're probably right, Berry. Ipswich is a good guy and his OP was obviously tongue in cheek, but the dive comes up every time Lambert's name gets mentioned, as if he'd perpetrated some heinous crime. My post was a bit hyperbolic reaction, but I'm blaming Tiddlywink for that, painting an image of Lambert spitting out some teeth after that brutal challenge from Albertz and the approval that followed. Apologies if you found that offensive.

It's not as if Lambert was a player in the mould of Roy Keane or Graeme Souness who was getting a taste of his own medicine

Gg your ongoing and enduring defence of Lambert us both commendable and illuminating.
Part of the continuing criticism of him is tongue in cheek if course.
There are many worthy targets if derision and you mention some. For me noone comes close to Keane or on the diving front Arjen Robben.
That some nations admire diving is frankly a damning enditement of acceptance of cheating.

Your other comments are way off beam.

Not one of favourite players I must concede . But I did like Albertz, looked like a cart horse, but what a shot, if he had long hair he would have been hot shot hamish personified .

Err, thanks Jbob, I think. 🤔

I'd never defend the indefensible, but as you imply, Lambert doesn't come into that category, even though diving is deplorable. I don't think he was a serial diver like Robben, or even our own Superjoe - he wasn't in opposing penalty areas often enough to qualify. 🙂 The EPL has a good number who have obviously studied a collection of the Dutchman's finest dives.

Diving is very much admired in some countries - All you need to do is read or listen to match reports. e.g. "Robben was very clever in convincing the referee that he'd been fouled to win his team a penalty." Let's not go with the mock outrage here though - we're all quite happy when the Pars get a "soft" or "controversial " spot kick, but squeal like stuck pigs when they're awarded against us.

My other comments are way off beam? Like I don't think it's cool to gloat when a player loses some teeth due to a reckless tackle. Presumably those same people will still be belly laughing when they see reruns of Toni Schumacher's assault on Patrick Battiston, in the WC semi-final of Spain 82?

GG, the part that stuck in my craw then (& still now to an extent) was the interview with "The View" a few days later in which iirc having been asked about the incident he said that he felt a touch so he went down. That was as close to an admission as I've heard.

"Was referring to comparison with paedophiles"

Ah right. It wasn`t actually a comparison though. I was using hyperbole to try and make the point that Lambert doesn`t deserve such treatment, even if it`s meant as banter.

The dive is even more blatant than I remember. Shameful.
I think Calderwood enjoyed Craw's pen more than the player. It was a braw strike though.
Was Jonathan Watson managing cellic that night?
And Larsson looked offside tae.

His interview on open goal with Simon ferry was eye opening about his career and the regard he is held in by dortmund fans is great.

Not too many Scots have a champions league winners medal.

I wasn't actually mocking Lambert. It's just the most memorable image I have of him, spitting his teeth out after being smashed by Albertz.

I will never forget nor forgive cheats against the Pars. Especially Paul Lambert. He knew exactly what he was doing that night, and showed no remorse nor hesitation. A despicable act.

I fully expected him to confess to Willie Young that it was a dive, that he deserved to be booked and a free kick to the Pars.

Just like any other simulation artist in the game would have done.

Robbie Fowler confessed to diving against Arsenal years ago. Didn't change the refs mind and he still awarded the penalty. Fowler struck a poor penalty which Seaman saved but McAteer followed up and stuck away the rebound.

Here's to the first of the day, fellas! To old D.H. Lawrence.
