Topic Originator: wetherby
Date:   Tue 16 Mar 16:08

As ICT v Raith was on BBC Scotland last week I have decided to have a look at Dundee who we have still to play twice. According to Dee fans they are coming into some form. Will let you know.

Ayr worthy of their lead and have come close two or three times to extending it.

Great results so far, to finish tonight still second with one and two games in hand on some teams is ideal.

2 games in hand doesn't mean much in this league . If we were in Inverness or Ayr's shoes I wouldn't be thinking we were out of it yet .

No such things as “easy” games in this league. There will be a few twists and turns before this season is finished.

I don't think we're getting any breaks. Second in a very competitive league on merit. Fewest losses aside from the third or fourth biggest team in Scotland. Fewest goals conceded. Second best goal difference. Joint second wins.

Let's give them some credit.

You certainly wouldnt have known which was the top 4 side. Ayr very much deserved the win. Dundee created very little. McMullan worked hard but had little support.

Wanted to wait until ft and no jinx it. Can hopefully create a wee gap over next 3 games. Maximum points would give us some breathing space to relax near the end of the season .... But we all know pars like to do things the hard way😅

It is only a good night for us as long as we beat ICT on Saturday !
No point results going for us and not taking full advantage ! get the win and it can start to give us a bit of momentum and put some daylight between us and teams near us
Would also be good if Alloa can beat Dundee on Friday night would be a good week all in all
Let`s hope we can do things the easy way for a change

Two excellent results for us as things currently stand. Bear in mind , I’m thinking of our best chance of a playoff spot and two of our strongest challengers both lost leaving us with with an excellent chance with the games running out.

Worst case scenario is still good in that we can lose to both Raith and Dundee and still be in the mix for 2nd but if we take points of either or both, we are virtually certain of top 4.

We are in an excellent position right now and it is up to us to make it count. As I`ve said all season if we play to our ability, we will secure second spot. A bit of consistency is long overdue. Big game on Saturday and another we really need to be looking to win.

At the start of the season I tipped Dundee to finish 2nd, but they`re a lot less likely now.

They`ve brought in big names up front (Adam, McMullan, Cummings) but completely failed to shut the back door - 35 goals conceded in the league, only QoS and Alloa are worse, with no other team even coming close.

If they lose to Alloa on Friday they`ll be in a dogfight to even get a play-off spot, and I suspect McPake will be shown the door, perhaps with Adam being given temporary charge until the end of the season.

However, forecsting results in this division is a mug`s game!

Alloa away is a horrible game for Dundee to have especially after their tanking tonight and Alloa's result at the weekend.
I suspect the likes of McMullan, Cummings, Sow and Adam are on fairly big wages and if they continue to be on the fringes of the Play Offs McPake will be out the door.
Ashcroft has been honking for them this season.

Parrot .
I merely pointed out that I thought Inverness and Ayr were still relevant in the chase for play off places .
Of course we're in a good position , but our form has been very patchy .
Some on here seem to think it's inconceivable that they might still catch us .
Our games in hand v Dundee and the Rovers are no certainties to give us points and with us still to play everyone again , we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves .
At no time have I asked for SC to be sacked !
Wish folk on her would stop accusing others of being negative , when in my opinion a lot of them are just being realistic .

A league table measures the level of consistency of teams and we are currently second best. That`s nothing to be embarrassed or apologetic about. From what I`ve seen of other teams it`s an accurate assessment.

Who's embarrassed or apologetic?
If you re-read my post from earlier , all I said was that I thought last nights 2 winning teams were still relevant in the fight for play off places . and we have no reason to be complacent as those teams still have to play us . They are well capable of turning us over , as we are of doing the same to them .
Of course I'd rather be where we are than them but there's still almost a third of the season to go .
Of course anything other than euphoria becomes negativity on here .

Who`s euphoric?

In a league of 10 teams with play-offs for promotion and relegation it`s almost inevitable that most teams will have something to play for until the final day. The old adage still applies though - points in the bag are better than games in hand.

Our home record is Played 9 Won 7 Drawn 1 Lost 1 For 17 Against 8. Total points 22 from 27.

We've picked up the second highest points tally in the league at home, six behind Hearts and they've played two games more than us.

Dundee are third having picked up 20 from 30. Rovers are 4th with 14 from 9 games. There is nothing ropey about our home form.

No problem. Our away form is currently the 7th best in the league so certainly scope for improvement in our away form.

Played 9 Won 1 Drawn 5 Lost 3. F 10 A 11 total points won 8 from 27. 9 behind Hearts from the same number of games. 7 behind the Rovers who are 2nd but played one more. 1 ahead of Alloa and Dundee who are bottom. Dundee played the same number of games but Alloa have played one more.

Of our 18 league matches so far, only 4 of them have had a winning margin of more than one goal. (ICT 3-1, Alloa 4-1, Raith 4-1, Arbroath 0-2).

The other 14 matches were either drawn, or the winning margin was only 1 goal. This shows the very fine margins in this division between success and failure - one successful shot on goal in those 14 matches would have changed the allocation of points.
