 Scotland v Austria
Topic Originator: parathletic

A tough test for us tonight. Will Nisbet get his debut at some point? I would say Adams is guaranteed to start.

I haven`t seen him play but good to see Ryan Gauld doing well in Portugal. I noticed he was Portuguese Second Division player of the year last season. This season he has scored 7 (6th top goalscorer) and is 3rd highest on the assist list in the Primera Liga-not bad for one of the smaller teams. Maybe he is finally fulfilling his potential and may see him in the squad in the future?

Surprised Gallagher has been dropped , though he was our best CH in recent games. A new CH partnership.....mmm?

Maybe we are playing 2 left wing backs? :) Thought we had seen the last of Hanley starting.

Hendry and Hanley. That doesn’t inspire confidence

Yeah I'm disappointed to see Hanley back in there.

They might not be the most glamorous pairing but Gallagher and Considine didn't let us down and I'd take either of them ahead of Hanley.

Steve Clarke might be best advised to replace Hanley soon because he`s just been yellow carded.

Dykes is doing a good job of marking the 2 defenders when we are on the attack! Not even trying to lose them

That's what he's there for. Creating space for Armstrong and Christie behind him.

Pretty important game this, to fall 3 points behind Denmark and Austria already and then have Israel away next.

Qualification could be in tatters early.

Don’t know about anyone else but I was very happy with Scotland’s performance tonight against a capable Austrian side.
We showed fight and desire and play to our strengths.

They are 25 places better than us in the rankings. I agree there is little between the teams though but I thought after our hesitant start , we really did try have a go at them.

McTominay must play in midfield from now on, thought Hendry did alright so might be a replacement there.

a draw a fair result but the penalty shout, if the defender holds him up and they stay on their feet i dont think many refs would give it, its the fact he pushes him to the floor as well like he panics he has to do that, that makes it a stonewaller imo.

Good point in the end but thought we could have won that.

Stonewall penalty as well. Tierney made Alaba look ordinary as a full back. Great finish from McGinn.

Been a long time since i`ve watched a team I support and not been totally deflated. Its nice.

Thought Hendry was at fault for both their goals didnt close out the guy

I thought their second was tremendous. The ball was behind the striker and he arches and gets power and direction on the header. I think the fact the ball was behind the striker made it impossible for the defender to attack it.

Thought we only started to play when we went a goal down, it was dire up until then. Thought it was a strange decision to take Armstrong off as I thought he was our best player when McGinn had been poor but thankfully it worked out in the end.
A decent point in the end but could have been more if we had been a bit more positive earlier in the game.

Awight Pat!

It was an outstanding header and no blame can be given to his marker in that instance.

Overall pretty positive-still gave the ball away cheaply at times but good point after being behind twice. Pity Gilmour can`t get a run of games at club level as I think he would help with ball retention.

McTominay, McGinn and Gilmour would potentially be a really strong midfield.

Gilmour needs to get out on loan for game time.

I thought that Hendry was to blame. He was not goalside. If you look again , he is behind the striker. He should have had him on his right shoulder. That way the striker would have needed to come over the top of him to get a header in. It’s a basic part of defending

I thought the bigger crime was letting the cross come in unchallenged. We had about 8 men behind the ball but the midfield was too deep and not out quick enough to challenge.

The cross wasn`t great and Hendry looked like he was anticipating a better ball into the corridor between keeper and defence. Maybe a marginal error but by the time the guy headed it he was pretty tight and I think they actually contacted heads with each other. The fact that the striker is 6ft 7 didn`t help either :)
