Defending has been horrendous, Watson has given Ashcroft a free header at every set piece yet he's still the one to mark him. Wilson in midfield is dreadful, far too slow and like playing with a man short

OFW has maybe made some good saves tonight for a change but that second header from ashcroft should never have been a goal. Terrible goalkeeping.

When Ashcroft was with us he had a 50 pence head, couldn’t ever come close to scoring from a corner and now he’s a massive threat

Absolutely ridiculous defending
I feel sorry for OFW
Just now it looks like normal service has resumed from the Pars
I am p****d off now
Its not that we don`t know that Ashcroft is their main danger at corners yet we leave virtually unmarked
we are second to everything at the moment we need to change things a little Dundee get it all their own way especially on our right

OFW has been outstanding and don’t think he was at fault for that third, not having a man on the post is criminal when Ashcroft has won practically every corner.

Defence has been caught flat footed for the first goal, Cummings with good anticipation, similar with the second just second to the ball.

It was obvious Dundee were going to be right on it start of second half and we just couldn’t handle it.

2 Nil up away from home with the best defence in the lead - only going to be 1 outcome for us.

Fraser Murray has done nothing for me same as Dom Thomas.

Still can’t understand how Crawford and the players on the park couldn’t see that Ashcroft had the better of Watson and didn’t try and swap the marking.

We won’t make the playoffs. 1 away win all season is awful.

Never one to criticise but Dundee were poor so it shows how bad we were.
Woeful defending and not a lot of creativity.
As much as I want our manager to succeed
Coat on a shoogly peg I think.
This squad is so much better than this.
Sad but true

Disappointing after such a cracking start.

Felt our defence was MiA at times and if our goalie wasn’t in between the sticks imo it would be a bigger goal difference for Dundee.

I know we have two games in hand but we shouldn’t have to rely on other teams falling for us to stay in a play off spot.

A deserving win for the home side - Cummings and Ash did not get covered when they should have been imo.

A must win v Raith on Tuesday? Or a mid table finish come April. I’d like to think the former but not with displays, after the ten minute mark, like that.

Well for the first 6 mins we were on top !
then sat back as usual to try and hold on to a lead the way we are playing just now has to be the managers doing cannot change things
Surely he watched the Alloa v Dundee and saw that Ashcroft was their main danger yet we allow him all the freedom he wanted
at the start of the second half we were sleeping and that has cost us the game !
Feel sorry for OFW pulled off some great saves but his defense was sleeping
now down to 4th only by a goal
It is no good having a game in hand if we are going to throw it away
unless a miracle happens looks like we wont even make the play offs
I am utterly disgusted tonight how much more of this dribble are we going to be served under SC

Although credit is due to Crawford for steading the ship after AJ it is worth remembering he lost 7 of his last 8 games that season and he would have taken us down to League 1 had the season went on another week or 2. Last season he finished 6th and below Arbroath with the best striker in the League by a mile. This season has been a complete and utter farce since November. Boring and eye wateringly bad football.
He has done well to recruit the likes of Euan Murray, Nisbet and Dow but he is an utterly dreadful manager who is out of his depth. We will be lucky to finish above 7th on current form.

Worst I`ve seen Watson tonight. He is usually very reliable but lost his man ball watching for the first, easily beaten for the second and third. Not often a player is at fault for all three goals. Hopefully this is just a blip for him but I would have hooked him after the second. He couldn`t handle Ashcroft at corners.

2-0 up after 5 mins and he goes back to the **** 5-4-1 formation that has been brutal for weeks. That was a rank rotten management performance and not any players fault at all tonight.

Henderson looks alright from what we seen of him though.
Kick in the teeth same as what we done to them. To lose 2 goal lead. Which I am thankful for a man I slated a few weeks back, fon Williams it would and maybe should have been 5-2.
Crawford just seems to open with a game plan and that's what the lads need to follow for 90 mins....no adapting to circumstances or counter tactics....silent!!
Can't expect the team to show passion if the manager isn't bothered a monkeys chuff

Okay, surely that`s enough. Stevie Crawford has to go. Thomas Meggle is the club`s sporting director. Let`s see him take charge to the end of the season. A bit of German discipline and order is needed here. You can see from the last 15 minutes that we have the players. They just need strong leadership and direction.

"he goes back to the **** 5-4-1 formation that has been brutal for weeks"

a formation we did not play tonight or have at any point this season.

"Worst I`ve seen Watson tonight"

thats an understatement. even when they did switch him off Ashcroft, Fontaine got a free shot away from a corner! embarrassing from him all night.

someone mentioned no one on the post, cause Dundee took an extra man out so the back post man goes out to cover him, hence no one on the post.

people talking about sitting back at 2-0, no they didnt. nothing was sticking up front and when you play 442 it leaves you more exposed, we couldnt get out as a result nothing to do with a deliberate tactic.

sack Crawford now and everything will be all great? if only it was as simple as that

I’m going to try and take some positives from this game firstly because there were some:

The way we started was excellent, no sign of losing the dressing room which was nice to see.

OFW - thought he was outstanding, some cracking saves and kept us in the game.

Great to see both O’Hara and Wighton score and the manner in which they did makes it better and will have given them confidence.

Henderson and Banks when they came on both played well and managed to get us performing a bit better in the last 15mins. As RTL says, gives me some hope for the matches ahead.

We’re still in the playoffs, yeah clutching at straws i know, expected us to lose today and fall out the playoffs so it’s a small win that we’re still in it.

We have two games in hand on Queens and ICT (for the first time I’ve started looking behind us rather than in front), we really need to make them count.

The cons, defensively tonight we were very flat footed, no anticipation, you need to bank on the keeper parrying a ball away and try to be the first to it, we lost two goals that way.

Ashcroft was a beast and won every corner, he just had the better of Watson all night and I can only point the finger at him so much, it’s a managers job to spot that and make adjustments to try and remediate. FWIW, defensively thought Ashcroft was his usual suspect self.

On paper, we have a really good team, best team in a while one could argue, but it’s a young team, an inexperienced team and a team where you need your manager to coach on the sideline, inspire them, motivate them, I didn’t see any of that from Crawford tonight and that’s what disappointed me the most.

He started off the season really well, when this team has the confidence, they can beat anyone in this league. Problem we have is this is the first time Crawford has faced adversity as a manager and he doesn’t know how to get out of it and he’s looking rather deflated and possibly defeated.

I’m not a big Crawford supporter, I gave him the credit he was due at the time he deserved it, I’ve not been calling for his sacking in recent weeks because I wanted to give him a fair crack at resolving the situation, he deserved that chance. I’m still after tonight, not at the stage to join the Crawford go camp.

We’re still in the mix, I wouldn’t say we’re in a really bad position, but yes we’ve made it a hell of lot more difficult.

The pivotal point for me is Tuesday night, it is a must win, anything other than a victory then in order to protect this season the board will need to make the change and deep down I think Crawford knows that himself.

Excuse me being a bit controversial here, but I thought that was a massive improvement on the previous I-don’t-know-how-many games and I really enjoyed it. It was a great advert for the Championship. From the off we looked like we were up for it. Nobody could have been expecting the Pars to be two-nil ahead after six minutes, but in some ways it was no less than they deserved. IMHO their shape looked much better, there was a commitment to challenge, passes were crisp and (mostly) finding their target and there was pace in attack. Yes, Dundee started to take the initiative as the half wore on, but they were playing well so that isn’t too surprising. I really felt sorry for OFW with that first ‘Dee goal: those were two brilliant stops and he was unlucky that the ball fell so kindly for Cummings. Our defence might have been sharper in following play but it was a good goal. Second half? Well, Dundee came out totally fired up and, frankly, bossed us out of it. I agree that our defence could perhaps have done better for the second and third goals, but as people have repeatedly stated on this forum week after week, we have one of the best defensive records in the division, so maybe an off-night is to be expected occasionally. Again though, despite losing the goals, OFW deserves recognition for his heroics throughout. I thought Crawford’s subs were well-timed and there were definite chances resulting from the play of Banks and Henderson. Both of those players impress me a lot. Am I disappointed? Absolutely 100%. Am I calling for Crawford’s head? Absolutely not yet! Had it been another game like the Morton debacle though I would have been wading in with the rest of you. I think we have acquired a really exciting squad of players and - you know what? - I think they’re going to come good. I said recently that there would be many twists and turns before this league ends and I continue to believe that. Today’s Championship results surely give weight to that theory? I just hope that we don’t run out of games and that we do actually make the playoffs.

If Euan Murray is holding out for a move to the Premiership, he can go, average at best. He`ll get a big shock if he takes a step up.

Our goals were braw, shame it meant nothing in the end. Sick of watching us only play for a spell, take the lead and then sit back, only to then try chase the game in the last 10 if we are level or losing.

As for Fon Williams, yes some cracking saves, shame his defence couldn`t help him out. Some would say though his saves weren`t that impressive and he should be palming them into positions strikers can`t get too..

I'm no master tactition or fitba expert but it was glaring obvious to me that our midfield were non existant when we didn't have the ball. This led to the defence being under much more pressure than they should have been. Maybe they should have done better, in particular from corners, but Dundee had far too much freedom in possession.

Murray has been rank lately
needs dropped but SC wont do this certainly not premiership quality just now he is at his level
I do not know if he is left footed or right footed but if he is left footed it is a crap left foot almost every ball he kicks is up in the air or out the park !
Still time for the players to turn it round but I will not hold my breath as I think this every week

Lewis Mayo is awful at centre mid. Horrendous.

Little wonder we improved when we put a football player in the middle of the park to help Wilson.

Fon Williams made some great saves but what was frustrating me was that in the first half after we took the lead he had a couple of chances to distribute the ball early to the full backs. He held onto it for ages and then blootered it up the park more often than not onto a Dundee head. Happened a few times in a row and it was allowing them to come straight back at us. I understand he was trying to slow it down but better to keep secure possession and get the full backs released early or at least make a better job of the kicking.I`m probably being hyper-critical here as that apart he had a good game.

Poor result today. We are still in a good position. Obviously we need a good result at Raith but its going to be a tough fixture but one I think we can win

Any team that goes 2-0 up away from home is expected to win especially against an equal or inferior team. That was an absolute embarrassment tonight by the manager and his so called experienced staff!

It seems to me that our recent struggles are a direct result of the failure of the chosen way of playing. We obviously wanted to play everything short as much as possible, but whether it was opponents catching onto it or we`re just not quite good enough to do it over a long period, it`s forced us to play in a different way. Being direct sometimes is no bad thing, but because it`s obviously not our preferred way of playing, we`re not that good at it and struggle to find a shape to the team that works in attack and defence.

At the moment we have nobody who is a reasonable target for a ball up the park. It might sound basic and the footballistas might scoff at me even mentioning it as an issue, but an out ball is often important at our level and we simply don`t have it. We`re not helped there by Ryan Dow being injured as he was usually the target before, but in truth even he wasn`t that great an option.

Starting with two up and two wide players is quite attacking, but it didn`t really work - again. Dom Thomas had a few decent balls in the first half but the biggest failure was that we just didn`t control the game when we had a lead - compare how the game was played at 2-1 and 2-3. Dundee were constantly threatening an equaliser, we really weren`t. Defensively, the one positive of that system is that there should be good cover for full backs when the ball goes wide, but over the whole game it`s pretty clear that Dundee completely dominated in the wide positions.

I was worried about the game when I seen Edwards saying "hopefully win a game of football" . There seems to be no belief in the changing room. I didn't watch the game but had it on radio at work and from what I heard ofw pulled off a few great saves it could have been worse.

c'mon the pars

Frankly, this is one p*** poor league. An awful Hearts team winning the league at a canter followed by everyone else with little between them scoring points off each other. We have won once away all season and are still in a playoff position. Competitive league? Yes. Quality football? No chance. After 2 good goals in the first 10 mins we were rotten and deserved to lose.

Today Crawford flicked the switch from “dull, turgid, oxygen suffocating” to “expansive wide open and see what happens”

In reality Dundee got caught napping first 10 mins as they didn’t expect us to open as we did. Then they changed. First time I’ve seen SC NOT react to an opposition change. At that point when our two up front became isolated we were in trouble. I don’t understand why at that point he didn’t get O’hara to drop to right wing and move F Murray into centre mid with Mayo and Wilson. That would have sucked the life out of Dundee and stop leakage. That’s what he HAD been doing before today. As if he’d been reading all the feedback and thought, aye, we do need to go for it.

I think some of the reaction on this thread is a bit much though. Dundee aren’t “awful”. I think man for man theyve got a better squad than us. I also think I saw enough on reflection that bodes well for the run in. Id drop Thomas and Fraser Murray, and try and not worry about creativity from wide personally, think a narrow 4 middle with one link and one up top might be the right combo. Crawfords going nowhere til end of season. This league is so tight you have to aeee it out. After that....then we can look at what changes. We’re nowhere near ready to go up, christ half our squad is either out of contract or on loan!

I too endorse Berry`s thoughtful piece.

There were positives to be taken from the game.

Stevie, the club legend,is very fortunate there is no crowd at a match.

I would not wish the ghastly scenes AJ endured in January 2019 on anyone.

Stevie has dodged a bullet. He knows it himself.

Tuesday has become our Cup Final.

Decent game to watch with both defences not the best, thought your keeper kept you boys in it. We started terribly then got back in the match with Cummings goal. Thought we bossed the 2nd half and should have had another couple.
Then you brought the 2 young lads on, both looked very good and it could have ended up a draw. I can`t speak about the pars but we have underachiever this season imo, with our squad we shud be challenging hearts.

Spoke to my Dundee supporting mate after the game, he ventured that we were the better side for first 20 and last 20 but in between they were. He agree that Anderson should have been Red carded by the ref.

Before the game I thought we would get beaten so not surprised but having said that the performances of Wighton,Banks and Henderson were encouraging. We aren`t out of it yet.

I don’t see all this stuff about us starting expansively and then dropping back - reality is dreadful defending gifted us two goals (albeit with fantastic finishes) - we didn’t create either chance - other than that it was no better than the last few weeks until Banks and Henderson came on. Can someone please tell me what Fraser Murray adds to the team? - couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag.

Loved seeing Jason Dair with his I pad showing Henderson what to do - it instilled me with so much confidence.

I agree. I think the club is on a much better footing than it was when AJ was manager. I think the good work done to date is being overlooked. I appreciate the performances have not been good but the general direction of the club is upwards My advice to SC at this moment in time would be to remain positive and focus everyone on the prize. Sometimes when your back is against the wall and your opportunities are limited you have nothing to lose. Cometh the hour cometh the man. Its a game at the end of the day and there is no magic wand.

I switched off the telly at full-time so I don`t know what was said in the post-match analysis but during the game I didn`t hear any of the pundits writing us off as hopeless or out of the promotion race. There was maybe even a wee feeling we deserved a point.

It`s always interesting to hear a neutral viewpoint because I think we fans sometimes have pre-determined ideas about the team, players and management which colour our interpretation of a particular match.
