Right manager but the wrong time for me. Gerrard has a cracking Rangers team for the division and can’t see Celtic getting close next season.

I dunno, he'll get pace back in the team and isn't a merry go round dinosaur, the like of which wouldn't get near Gerrard just now..

If they appoint him now he'll have the chance to judge the squad in some reasonably competitive games .
With him in charge , I wouldn't be in the least surprised to see Celtic going close next season.
Liked the way he had Bournemouth playing , for the most part .

I think that would be an impressive appointment. Similar to the Rodgers one... They'd need to back him in the transfer market tho, as their squad at the moment is so far behind Rangers.

He’s not part of “the Celtic family” if you catch my drift. They’ll hound him out soon enough. Nice guy too. Shame he’s going to end up with that lot.

He will be a great appointment given time to get rid of the utter dross that played last season..... but I would have gone for Wilder fro Sheff Utd. Mind you he bought that Mcburnie for millions and look what happened!
Howe could be a breath of fresh air for the tic..

Unlike Rangers fans the Celtic fans won`t give Howe two years grace to get things right. Right now his stock still has some credit down south. If he flops at Celtic he won`t get better than a struggling English championship side afterwards.

A number of Howe’s signings were pretty poor

Lerma £25m
Ibe £16m
Solanke £19m
Danjuma £14m
Billing £14m
Kelly £13m
Mepham £12m
Adobe £11m

I'm fairly sure he was on SKY a few months back and said he wasn't desperate to get back into the game, but if an offer came along and it was the right one for him, he'd take it. I wouldn't imagine he's struggling to pay the household bills.

TOWK, what makes you think Celtic's fans won't give him time to build a winning team? Rangers fans showed patience with StevieG because they saw year on year improvement. Are Celtic fans any different in this respect?

Everyone on this thread is talking like it's a done deal. Is it?

Look at the cost of his signed players, £15 million etc. Will the board allow him that type of money? When he sees the moths in the war chest he might walk away.

Aye the English equivalent of when Big Jim took over here.

His average points per game is really good in comparison to others. I think Celtic will be good for him but I doubt fans will be patient enough to accept and expected to win every game right from the start.

If he does sign it is important he signs before end of season, giving him time to run the rule over what he has and what he needs in competitive games rather than friendlies or European qualifiers

Would have been the end of his career anyway. Rangers will win the league again next season so whoever takes the job needs to be someone with nothing to lose and happy for a pay check for twelve months.

Peter Grant was widely tipped to become Howe's No 2 at Parkhead, so maybe he knew it was a long shot and took the Pars job.

I know you were just joking, Lambo, but I wonder how the respective salaries of Pars Head Coach and Celtic Assistant Manager compare. It would not have been beyond the bounds of possibility that if Eddie Howe was appointed at Celtic and he wanted PG as his assistant that he might well have asked to be released from the contract he'd just signed.

It would be like the Pars came calling for one of us after we'd agreed to sign for a junior club.

I always got the impression that Howe never saw the Scottish premiership as an attractive proposition. He`s been playing hard to get for quite a while. He`s very much an Englishman and has his eyes on his next English Premiership or Championship appointment.

I don`t think Howe would handle the pressure at Celtic - expecting to win every week. He`ll be happy taking a mid table English team where pushing for top 10 is the limit.

Celtic are saying he turned the job down for "reasons outwith both his and our control". Chris Sutton is speculating that the recent attacks on Peter Lawwell`s property and the scenes of Rangers` fans in central Glasgow may have made him think twice about moving up here.

I think that could well be it. If Lawell can be subject to that sort of an attack after delivering huge success for Celtic then what sort of recriminations could Howe potentially face if he couldnt rebuild and immediately put a stop to Ranger`s domination over Celtic.
