Whittaker straight swap with Mayo in the middle
Thomas more than likely back to the left, could be any of the 3 forwards playing on the right which they all can do.

I couldn`t care less what the line up is tonight as long as they win !!
Certainly going for it so I hope we have our shooting boots on and our defending boots also ! hopefully our full backs will get to play their natural game tonight and we don`t get caught out like the Ayr game , so no mickey mouse defending tonight and get stuck in about them
Certainly hope the forwards get the service tonight and not the big hump up the park !

Just like Potter, Crawford can't win.

Given it wasn't exactly a stellar performance at Ayr, is it not logical to give some players who didn't start a chance to show what they can do tonight?

Never change a winning team - fair enough but otherwise....

Euan Murray definatley not 100 percent fit..... Think crawford will go if we don`t get the points we need tonight

Absolutely dire, no game plan apart from hit and chase! Corners are another thing - we have big Gaspuitis, head and shoulders above everyone else yet he stands at the edge of the box for corners- would it not be better 5o utilise his height?

Dundee look a level above us. We're full of honest endeavour but no pattern of play at all. No phases. No composure. A few nice movements up front scattered throughout the half but it's desperately poor overall.

Can see Dundee nicking one in the second half. We don’t really offer anything going forward, just hit it into the channels and hope someone makes a mistake. There never seems to be any game plan. Wighton on the right wing is baffling, I’d swap him and Ohara at half time.

This has been the best we’ve played in months . Dundee have a better team than us and if we lose the first goal we will crumble but we should arguably be ahead. Wighton misses a sitter , O’Hara should have tested the keeper and Henderson was unlucky .

No, on one occasion we played it backwards!

Totally agree with you, Rusty. There are glimmers of chances and endeavour, but Dundee are slicker, more combative and (perhaps) more determined than us. We’re definitely second best. Would agree with others - why is Wighton not in the centre and in a striker’s role? McManus is making no impression so far and some of his ball control is woeful. Great save by OFW from McDaid, by the way.

Dundee are finding their men with most of their passes , and as usual we are standing too far back off them and allowing them to pick out a man !
We really need to be putting ourselves about a bit more and try and hold on to the ball more and play it into feet !
We have had a couple of corners and wasted them too we have a giant in vytas and should be utilizing him

Don't want to jinx it but Comrie and Edwards have both been winning their battles at full back although I did miss the first 35 mins.

We are sitting far too deep and allowing Dundee to dictate the play
keep it up and we know what will happen
We need to get into their half and take the pressure off the defense for a bit

It’s as if we’ve looked at the fixture list and gone, we’d settle for a point here and have a punt on a three match shootout with ICT who will have a point advantage but a more difficult run in.

We’re certainly not trying to win this.

So did we go out today not to be beaten and hope we can nick a goal? I honestly couldn’t see any tactics being employed.

I have been following the team since the 80s in the second division and I honestly have never felt this scunnered with the team, even when Davie Hay destroyed a good team in less than a season.

I have no confidence in the management trio, and I actually believe the players feel the same. Some of the decisions in where to play players is mind boggling and then we go to his substitutions?

The team are playing like they have never played before and have no idea what to do.

I’ll be glad when it’s finally over tbh.

Edwards to be fair to him was left to deal with McMullan (best winger in this league) completely on his own, while Dom “I’m the man i know best watch me lose the ball over and over again and I won’t track back and help out” Thomas left him to it.

I can’t even get angry about this anymore - a dreadful performance but no worse than pretty much every game since Turner was bombed out of the team.

McCann on for Wighton defies belief - as did O’Hara starting through the middle rather than Wighton.

O'Hara can play through the middle and I'm sure he would even work well with McManus or Wighton however the service up to any of our strikers is disgraceful.

I actually think if o'hara was still with Alloa they might not be getting relegated because the create chances but don't have anyone to take them

I agree LEGEND85, feel like O`Hara is becoming a but of a fall guy but he he has zero service. Anyone would struggle.

During the Ayr game he was actually making a lot of good runs but the ball was invariably punted out the park in front of him.

..... and breathe.
Sometimes you need twenty minutes after a game to order your thoughts.
Well, that was no classic, was it? Following on from the game against Ayr, which was definitely no classic, was it?
And so it goes on.
We’ve ground out points from truly awful games which have given us an air of respectability as potential playoff challengers and yet we all know that it’s an illusion. We are where we are despite our performances, not because of them. The brutal truth is that we’re nowhere near being Scottish Premiership candidates.
And yet, and yet, amongst all the dross there have been bright moments - ironically many of them have been against the Champions. What good did they do us?
I totally agree with those who suggest that, as a team, we don’t seem to know what our tactics are. How often tonight did we see two Dunfermline players going for the same ball - including that tragi-comic moment where Henderson and, I think, Murray came together on the edge of the area, knocking each other over and giving Dundee a gilt-edged opportunity.
And how often did we see two Dunfermline players taking on the same Dundee player and almost inevitably being beaten by him?
That was a theme of the evening in fact: why can’t we win the ball in man-on-man challenges, whether in the ground or in the air? McDaid had one of the best chances of the evening when a succession of Dunfermline players singularly failed to make a worthwhile tackle and, while you must give credit to McDaid for his effort, there was ample opportunity to deal with him.
As for our passing? Was there any? OK, I do recall a glorious cross field ball from Wighton to Thomas on the left, but occasions like that were few and far between. Our passing generally has been woeful all season.
Then we have to consider throw-ins. Dundee took theirs quickly and usually found a man and opportunities arose. We, on the other hand, dither about who the ball is going to, nobody much moves, and inevitably the ball was passed back to the taker who either knocked it out, or the ball fell to an opposition player and the chance was gone.
One of our problems all season has been the frequent lack of pace in attack. That has improved a bit - says he, wearing his rosy-tinted specs - but it’s still an issue. Why, when the ball gets to midfield and with a chance of making something threatening, do we then start passing the ball sideways or, much worse, backwards, thus allowing our opponents to regroup? More terrifying is when our defence starts the same nonsense, playing tippy-tippy while retreating and with Dundee attackers pressing all the while.
We have the pace. Sometimes it is evidenced, but not often enough. And, too often, players with space opening up in the centre and shooting chances developing seem to lose their bottle and end up passing to a colleague on the wing?
Thus we resort to hoof ball which to me is one of the worst aspects of the game. It suggests that we are a

I don`t think the first half was as bad as made out above. Quite an open game at that stage (probably too open from us) and both sides having chances. I really didn`t see that as the dire fare most folk did.

Also harsh on Josh Edwards. He didn`t have a good game, but it was a tough shift for him against McMullen on his own, with the team set up in a way that gave him no protection at all.

It`s sort of true that the manager can`t win, but once again I didn`t like the way he sent his team out. Attacking intent is fine, but you need a balance in the team and once again I don`t think we got it. Unless you`re able to work positions that forwards can do something with, there`s little point having 3 of them on the park together, even when one is playing off the front and one out wide. Again, it just meant that the midfield did not function coherently in either defence or attack, and made it easier for Dundee to control the game than it should have been.

Aaron Comrie certainly our best player tonight. As I said on Saturday, he`s a player who will always give you good, honest work and I`m always glad to have him in my side. Not too many players can look good in a struggling team.

Given how the game went, I`m happy enough with a point. It pretty much makes sure we won`t be pulled down to the relegation play-off and if we can somehow get a win from somwhere, it does keep us in with a chance of top 4. I think we`re playing for 4th now which is a bit disappointing, but I`d take that if we can manage it.

I haven`t had much in the way of moans at referees this year, but I genuinely thought we got **** all in the way of decisions tonight. The first booking was absolutely ridiculous and I`ve no idea why he could have seen it that way. And many times he just seemed completely blind to free kicks we should have had. None of them were anything major, but in this screen-induced stupor of a season, it`s the first time I`ve found myself shoulting at a referee at all.

A consistent thing this season has been an obsession with keeping the ball in the air. Whether it's punting it up the pitch or heading rather than taking it to the feet, we're always having the ball in the air. Have the groundskeepers told the players to protect the pitch?

Just before his booking the ref had a word with Whittaker as he’d deliberately pulled back a Dundee player but the ref had played advantage - still felt it was harsh though.

Overall I didn’t think he had a bad game - it was very cruel of him to add on 6 minutes though.

cause he let him away with the shirt pull earlier on, thats the only reason i can think of Socks. for that to be a booking and not even give a foul on Comrie when McDaid took him out late in the second half, i cant say bizarre cause its Kevin Clancy.
I wonder how the 4th official felt on the touchline knowing he was given this game originally then he was "demoted" and Clancy given it when it was put on tv.

None of our forwards can win an aerial battle , nor control the ball and hold it up when its played high into them. Result is the ball comes right back to us meaning that there is very little respite for the defence. Been the case all season.

i agree wetherby we keep punting high balls to our forwards who never win it !
If we can see this I wonder what SC sees ? and our players insist on doing this all the time , it is ok now again when you have to clear your lines but because we do this week in week out we are only putting pressure on ourselves and it is a long shift for our defenders , Is it that hard to play football on the deck where I feel we are a much better team when we do this !
But of course you need to pass to your own player which seems quite hard for us to do these days
no point moaning too much because the football we are getting served up from the Pars is absolutely Gash and has been for ages

Really poor stuff again. I think that is as disappointed as I have been with us under Crawford, the Raith game was a disaster clearly but there was just no attempt to win that game - the players seem to have no idea what they are trying to do.

O`Hara up front on his own with none of the 3 `attacking` midfielders anywhere near him and the aimless, wild clearances we resort to is painful to watch. Wighton (nor McCann) is not a winger, McManus is not an attacking midfielder and sadly Crawford is not a capable enough manager for us.

Even if we scrape into 4th place, a change is needed in the summer. Hopefully in a year or two or even three years time we will be enjoying promotion, thanks to some of the players Crawford has brought to us during his time as manager. There is no doubting his intentions, his commitment and passion for the role but we are not progressing on the pitch.

Players tend to punt the ball when team-mates give them no options to pass it. I don`t think it`s part of any game plan. We are a team totally devoid of confidence just now which doesn`t help. I think the midfield has been the main problem area for most of the season. We haven`t had a consistent combination of defence and attack in there and the Turner episode hasn`t helped that.

Thomas is another player we don`t seem to get the best out of. He has good control and change of pace and direction but he doesn`t seem to be playing far enough up the park to get to the by-line which is where wingers are most dangerous. McDaid and McMullen were much more effective in that respect last night.

I agree with Socks` comments about the referee. Clancy always looks like a guy who would rather be somewhere else.

But the game plan out of possession is most definitely to sit deep. O`Hara was left so far isolated on his own, meaning he can`t put any meaningful pressure on defenders, teams have free reign to bring the ball into our half without working hard to do so. So when we do win possession, it is very deep in our half and we are immediately under pressure.

Other teams actually press our defenders with more than one player, meaning often our wingers receive the ball on the touchline with their back to goal and an opponent right behind them, it`s little wonder Thomas, F Murray and co can do little when getting the ball like this.

The strikers only have clearances and helpful punts to chase. O`Hara puts himself about but doesn`t have the stature to win balls in the air and hold them up for himself - he needed to do this because McManus was so deep. Even with Wighton and/or McManus up top, they are not suited to this kind of service either because neither of them jump or challenge for the ball.

This I find the most frustrating, we use to press the ball much better, I know Ryan Dow is excellent at this but surely the other players are also capable. I think back to the Dundee game at the beginning of the previous season, and the quality of our pressing and the pace we played at. That was also a draw, but the performance was a thousand times last nights effort.

Most of us believe, and presumably Crawford as well as he has signed every player, that we have a better squad than we did now - so why are we not attempting to put the opposition under pressure?

We have 3 games left, let`s put the players into a simple system which players in their natural positions and play with some courage. Let`s try and press the opposition high up the pitch - we have good players, if we get them on the ball in the opposition half we will create chances.

Perfectly summarised Bucaresti Par.

The first half of that Dundee game was one of the most exciting Pars performance I`d seen for a very long time, and we were undone by a slightly dodgy penalty decision.

The last two games have been enough to have football cancelled.

Results aside it`s been a steady decline to this point in terms of the actual quality of play, and that is basically down to how we`re set up.

Even if we scrape into the playoffs I`ll have no real enthusiasm for watching the games if we continue to play like this.

"and the quality of our pressing and the pace we played at. That was also a draw, but the performance was a thousand times last nights effort"

and we didnt win in the first 5 games, apparently players werent fit enough to play that way and Crawford was clueless and needed to change which he did and worked for a short time.

"so why are we not attempting to put the opposition under pressure?"

because in the main they are trying to continue playing the way that worked pre lockdown and had us 17/18 games unbeaten. they have tried to change it in different games but it hasnt worked.

The current style of play hasn`t been working for a long time now, as our form since November clearly shows, so why persist with it? Yes Crawford has tried a few different formations and certainly different personnel, but almost all of the games we largely been happy to sit deep and invite other teams forward. There is a time and a place for that - both recent games against Hearts we played pretty well and counter attacked effectively.

We don`t score many goals, but we don`t concede many either so long as the team selection isn`t completely lopsided (Raith away). The defence gives us a solid base to work with, put one or two of Whittaker/Wilson/Mayo in front of them, have some faith in them, we don`t need McManus playing as a central midfielder breaking up attacks on the edge of our box. We have enough energy to press the ball higher up the pitch, O`Hara and McManus are certainly suited to this, the wide players have plenty of energy as well.

Honestly, I don't think he knows how to change it. He tried it a few games ago and it massively backfired.

We need to score goals, we have the weakest position. We have scored in 6 games out of the last 15. We won`t score goals if we just punt the ball up the park and hope we get a break in the tiny moments it doesn`t comes straight back. WTF. Who plays like that? If we don`t have the attacking midfield players then why? We have 3 games to put it right and Caley have tough games. We can still sneak above them.

Dick is good with limited resources. The likes of Arbroath are the underdogs with little expectation.

Dick Campbell is not the answer. We sacked him previously as I recall and brought in the best manager we have had for years in Jimmy Calderwood. Granted we gave him money to spend but tactically, he was very good. We need to show a bit of ambition otherwise we will never get out of this league.

Wasn't suggesting Campbell as manager, just that he might end our season when Arbroath visit EEP!

I`m pretty sure Dick didn`t give a post-match interview when we beat them with a last-minute goal at EE. He`s no saint.
