A strong looking side. I`m feeling a bit nervous but I`m eternally optimistic with all things Pars. Let`s see the attack-minded Pars today please.

Please keep the ball on the ground, pass with accuracy, use the wings, defend solidly. Stick to the basics and we can do this Pars!

Don`t give Dick anything to smile about...

Typical Crawford Pars: score and try to sit in with long punts, inevitably concede and then have no momentum to go forward again. Still in this of course but going off previous performances we can probably expect more of the same in the 2nd half and just need to hope for a moment of individual skill from Thomas or Wighton.

When we build up the play properly we can be good but we don't have the players to win long balls knocked forward.
I like Fon Williams but he concedes too many goals after making the initial stop.
Defensively the second goal was awful. Ample chance to get the ball out the corner and next thing Edwards has brought the boy down.

Usual oh go ahead and sit in comments....its called trying to control the game! they don't just think let's get ahead and sit on our 18 yard box for the rest of the game.

If Thomas lifts his head and plays the proper ball to Wighton at 2-0 he is thru on 1 on 1, thats a massive moment in the 1st half, but bizarre that opportunity came as we were "sitting back".

Interesting BBC stats, Arbroath had more possession, 5 corners to our Nil and more shots on goal.
Who is the home team?

OMG. Why do the Pars do this to us? Even before we scored, the signs were there. Careless passing. Then we saw what we are capable of - Wighton does brilliantly and Declan scores a penalty. Then again, superb work from Comrie and Wighton leads to a smashing goal by O`Hara, We are cruising at 2-0!

Suddenly the passing is crisp, the Pars are defensively sound, the scores in Edinburgh and Dundee make us feel secure, and then...

Arbroath win two corners that fail to beat the first man... a good passage of play by the Pars sees Henderson shoot into the goalie`s hands, and then...

The ball goes up the other end of the park and suddenly its 2-1. A minute later it is 2-2 and we are back to where we started...

Arbroath are the scariest team that we have played against in this division for two seasons now. They press so well. they seem to have two players, sometimes three, on our players every time we go for the ball. We have our work cut out second half.

COYP!!!!

Not what I meant mate. In the channels is fine as you don't generally have to win them. What I meant was our forwards don't win the long 50/50 balls.

We've got the team set up so weird.

O'Hara is upfront with Wighton, McManus is playing as a ten.

Then we've got Dom in the right, Henderson on the left and Whittaker in the middle almost by himself?,

A 41212 with McManus as a 10 is just so weird, I could see McManus as a right midfielder (he often played there for County when they won the league) I can see him as a striker harrying the defence... But as a 10? With only one other centre mid? Its really not helping.

Great play there and a good partnership from O'Hara and Wighton, they look good together IMO.

He is a decent player but I have my doubts he could make any player ‘kick on’. We are an inconsistent, sometimes stuttering mess under him.

Was a bit concerned it was going to be a de ja vu moment of the Dundee game. 2-0 up beat 2-3.
Been a funny season for us. Score loads but concede loads to no scoring many amd no conceding many then back to scoring but opening the back again.

He is a decent player but I have my doubts he could make any player ‘kick on’. We are an inconsistent, sometimes stuttering mess under him.

Not at all pretty for sure this year, but he's taken us into the playoffs. First objective met as set by the board, and more than managers like John Robertson and Alan Johnson were capable of. Need to be better for the playoffs though, or we'll not progress

Absolute shambles!

What a bunch of bed wetting wee tadgers some of our fans are. We are in the play offs- first objective met by Crawford I would say. Achieved on a tight budget with a squad he has had to bolster by young loan signings. We are scoring goals at the right time now, getting results against teams scrapping for their lives. Crawford will get us to the Premiership COYP!

Well we stuttered over the line to get the win
But you would have thought Arbroath was the home team the way we allowed them to push us back !
We sit far too deep most games which allows teams to punt balls into our box as most teams know OFW is a bomb scare and they play to this hoping they can capitalize on him dropping the ball pushing it out to them or just standing on his line waiting for others to do something when he should be commanding his box
Anyway will take the win and see what happens from here

We are the Pars and I know this followed them for 55 years so seen highs and lows I know we aint Man City but no matter what league you are in it doesn`t stop the keeper taking control of his box ! our players often don`t know what to do because he just stands on his line ! and they just hoof it anywhere and normally it it is to the opposition ! he is what we have at the moment so end of story !
And i cannot remember many games where he kept us in it ! and my comments were my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own

Target achieved with a game to spare.

Anything is possible in the playoffs, even though they are designed to protect the Premiership team.

A lot of the season hasn`t been pretty, but we can get behind the team for the last few matches. We`ll probably be in the Championship next year, but there`s a chance of `the promised land`*

*all things being equal, I think the Championship is more fun

Ooft, that was a nervy one. But will done to them for fighting through the last 10 minutes to get the points. Best moment of the game? Kevin O`Hara in injury time bursting himself to get goal side of his man, defend the situation and get a great block in. You need that from your forward players when protecting a lead.

Have to say, I was absolutely raging at the manager at half time. And I`m in total disagreement with those above saying we deliberately sat deep at 2-0. That wasn`t the problem. The issue - yet again - was the ridiculous setup in midfield that Grant mentioned above. How could we ever be competitive in there with one defensive player, two out wide and McManus playing behind two strikers? And it wasn`t even the case that we started well and dominated early on. It wasn`t just the system though, as we often took unnecessary chances in bad areas. With the two combined, it`s a totally ridiculous setup. The reason we were struggling was because the team was unbalanced and we didn`t have enough defensive minded players. The complete opposite of what most seem to be saying above.

I thought we were better in the second half. It seemed a more normal game and we were quite a lot tighter. It worked quite well and we deservedly got back ahead again. Pity we lost that goal to go 4-3, but you have to say that was an outstanding header. At East End, I can only think of a David Moss header against Dundee (intot he same top corner) that rivals that.

10 minutes to go, of course we got nervous and got deeper and deeper. We did OK defensively, but corners and that long throw are always a danger against Arbroath. We got away with one when Whittaker lost his man at a corner (and he knew it), but that kind of effort from O`Hara, and Kerr McInroy to kick off his line is what you need in that situation.

Kevin O`Hara did brilliantly defensively from a forward position all day - well done to him for that, as it`s something I really admire and appreciate. And well done to them all for getting it done and through to full time.

Not relaly fussed whether we play home or away first, so if we have enough players to rest our entire team at Alloa, I`d do that without hesitation.

3rd vs. 4th home and away straight after next weekend`s game. Winner plays 2nd home and away. Winner of that plays 11th home and away.

Even with our first team playing at Alloa it`s odds against finishing 3rd anyway, so would rather rest for the big games.

Result! Phew!!!!
I’ve no time whatsoever for Robbie Neilson - moaning git - but when he said yesterday that the Scottish Championship is one of the hardest leagues to get out of he wasn’t kidding.
Credit where credit’s due, then: Arbroath gave us a real game today. Dick Campbell’s a shrewd man. He sets his team up well and they play a no-nonsense, blood and thunder type of football. They’re not going to roll over in adversity. It was no surprise therefore that they clawed themselves back from a two-goal deficit.
Having said that I thought they got away with quite a lot on the pitch. Some of the tackling was “agricultural” to say the least and it was remarkable how many pushes and questionable wrestles went unpunished by the referee - who also failed to challenge their outrageous stealing of yards at throw-ins and free kicks. They got their comeuppance though following O’Brien’s ridiculous challenge on O’Hara which in itself should have been penalised, and from which Wighton went on to score his second.
I thought some of our outfield play today was sweet. We’re beginning (finally) to put some passing together. And I actually like Wighton and O’Hara playing up front with McManus in a sort of midfield / roving role. In my view it is working quite well.
Also our defence looked better today, at least in stages. Gaspuitis in particular is a strong presence - which is why I thought it bizarre that he was substituted. Mayo was a bit hot and cold - some excellent work, but some horribly misplaced passes. Overall I’m also frustrated that, in clearing a ball from defence, it’s too often played into the centre of the pitch and / or to an opponent.
Don’t think OFW had one of his best ........ he says kindly! But, as others have stated, he’s done well in previous games.
Socks said in a post recently that, watching remotely, he couldn’t work himself up enough to celebrate goals. Well today our cat got a real fright when I was up shouting after first O’Hara and then Wighton scored. What brilliant, brilliant goals. Wighton’s change of foot was a joy to behold. The future’s Wighton!
Onwards and upwards then. I suppose Alloa’s a bit of a non-game, but I’m looking forward to the play-offs. Having said that, if we score a few goals against Alloa we might sneak second which would earn us more dosh.
As for SC? If the Board set him the objective of reaching the play-offs then he’s done what was asked and he deserves to keep his job. I know we’ve watched some dreadful stuff over a large part of the season, but I do feel that we’re progressing and that, as long as we can maintain some stability in terms of team, perhaps with a few tweaks - finance permitting - then it could bode well for next season.

The only flaw in your argument is that "we" are not on the BoD. When AJ squeaked into the play offs with that last minute equaliser in Inverness, he was deemed to have met his minimum target and continued as our manager the following season, in spite of being eliminated by Dundee United in the first play off round. Our BoD may decide to go down the same route, but our German investors may have other ideas.

This discussion should be for another day - let's get behind the team and the manager and wish them all the best in the play offs. Should the Pars "do a Livi " it would be very difficult to argue that Crawford should be replaced.

Friday`s game at Alloa could be a great opportunity to give some game-time to the players who have been out injured if they are nearing full fitness - E Murray, Wilson, Banks. Fraser Murray seemed to take a sore one near the end and may not be fit next week.

"We are the Pars " what arrogance wullie!! As for the comments on OFW, u say the defenders dont know what he is going to do come for the ball or not, but then say he sticks to his line.... so which is it lol

Think the formation these last 2 games has been set up to get the goals to make sure of the playoffs which has left us open in midfield, highly suspect it wont be as open as that in the playoffs no matter who we play, and quite rightly that should be the case.

Makes the difference with the strikers working together off the ball defensively, thought Whitts was really good today and the change for Watson coming on was needed as Arbroath were always gonna go for it with them needing the points as badly as we did for own reasons (which of course they are entitled to unlike some folks opinions on it), crucial block made by him and a few headed challenges.

Arbroath were coming off the back off a 4 -0 humping against a team we had struggled and normally do year in year out when we play them, so today was never gonna be easy or comfortable.

Really pleased for Craw tonight after a very difficult period for the club, we have got there in the end without having to get something away at the last game.

Henderson might be wasted out on the left, but does he have the dig and drive to be in a central 2? Question to be asked there. In short time more goals and assists combined than the former number 8........

I’m sorry I just can’t agree with that! Have you watched us since Christmas? We’ve been brutal and could easily have blown it again today! It’s clear that when we play well we have a really good squad that could/should have finished 2nd but he can’t get the best out of them. It was the same last year, just before the season was halted we were in free fall from a decent position in the league costing us prize money.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who couldn’t bear another season of awful turgid football, which is just a complete turnoff for non season ticket holders who may decide to spend their money elsewhere.

1 defeat in 7, beat Dundee and DundeeUtd at home, had Nisbet and Dow to come back from injury, 3 points off 4th with 8 games to play....yep free fall.

a lot has to change and its within the fans, not the coaching staff.

got over the line with a game to spare, could have been more comfortable today but Arbroath were never going to give as an easy game. would be good to get another win on Friday and take that momentum of 3 wins in a row and 6 unbeaten into the playoffs.

when I say we are the Pars I was referring that we never do simple or the easy way but hey ho we did it and I am very happy for all involved to get the job done with a game to spare !
this I agree with part of what you wrote :

Makes the difference with the strikers working together off the ball defensively, thought Whitts was really good today and the change for Watson coming on was needed as Arbroath were always gonna go for it with them needing the points as badly as we did for own reasons (which of course they are entitled to unlike some folks opinions on it), crucial block made by him and a few headed challenges.

I can only assume that the Change bringing Watson on was for his experience of the Scottish game but it certainly turned out to help us with what you mention above as Arbroath who are fighting to stay in the league threw everything at us except the kitchen sink and as usual a typical fighting performance from them never an easy team to beat as the Bunnet has them set up to their strengths
was also pleased that 3 off our front men all scored and I am hoping this vein of scoring will continue ! glad the game is over and we come out on top as it isn`t good for the Health
