Just heard Walter Borthwick has died.

Big part of Harry Melrose team when I was a wee boy, had a fantastic career once his playing career finished. RIP.

Really sad news. Like Neils, I remember him fondly as a young lad. Good, honest and reliable professional

Agree with others paying tribute here. Watty was a very solid, dependable player in our team and he always gave 100% in a Pars shirt. Thank for everything Watty, RIP.

"RIP Walter, always remember your goal against Rangers, just about took the roof of the net away!❤"

I must be getting senile - thought it was Alex Kinninmonth who scored on the volley from a corner, past Peter McCloy at the Norrie end.

RIP Walter, good servant to the club.

Aye, the Sunday Post report claimed that if the net hadn't stopped it, the ball would have ended up in the High St. I was at the Cowdenbeath end, as there was no segregation and most of the away support had taken over the town end, but even from there the speed of the volley was obvious. Wattie caught it so sweetly he probably never felt a thing. Peter McCloy never moved a muscle.

R.I.P Walter.

GG - "Wattie caught it so sweetly he probably never felt a thing."

The jury is still out on the mistaken identity.

The smart (?) money is on Alex Kinninmonth.....allegedly !!!

Are you not talking about different games? It was the late '70s he was with us.

Did he score in the League Cup Quarter Final against them? I wasn't allowed to go.

League cup quarter final was over 2 legs in 1977.Lost both games three one. Scorers according to pars data base were Morrison and Mullen. I was at both games. Pre segregation and not for the faint hearted.

And me. I confused the same players in a private chat before LA's post was made. Weird but some consolation that my Auldtimer's and I are not alone..... 🙂
