 Clyde V East Fife
Topic Originator: Westies squint kicks

Kick Off initially delayed, then 25 minutes after the original kick off time the match is called off. Bizarre, no official reasons yet.

Easy fife rightly refused to play when they found out a Clyde player had tested positive 40 mins before kick off. He was part of squad for Saturday and was changing room for tonight’s match.

Clyde statement says game was given go ahead by the JRG but East Fife refused to play so ref had no option to postpone it.

Can of worms opened you would think with this one

I would say that`s a bit harsh dafc-chris1. These players are part time. Some of these players might have to self isolate if the game went ahead meaning they won`t be able to work their day jobs. Some might not get paid if they can`t work. Worst case they could end up positive, which could affect their families work life also.

Darren Young clears up what happened last night, the Clyde player tested positive in Saturday travelled with the team on Saturday ,was in the dressing room last night, and with some of the East Fife players partners pregnant and a few guys self employed it was not a risk the Officials or players were willing to take .
Also according to Darren Young the JRG were never consulted.

Disciplinary proceedings have been started against E Fife .
Absolutely rdiculous .
I hope they get plenty backing from other clubs .

I would hope public health scotland step in and say east fife were 100% correct. The disciplinary panel would make mugs of themselves if this were to happen.

I can’t see how the JRG says it would be ok for a game to go ahead while a player with confirmed covid was in changing room with his team mates. Let’s see how spfl deal with this one.

I'm with the SPFL on this one they were told the risk was minimal and East Fife just shoved two fingers up to Clyde and the rest of the league

It will be procedural. If you fail to fulfil a fixture, you'll be investigated/charged automatically.

If the facts are as East Fife have presented them, there is no chance they will be sanctioned.

I love it when we go sell Kevin Nisbet,
He's gonna pay for everyone this season.

How would JRG know risk was minimal? In a changing room there would be real close contact between players, while on pitch risks could be minimal, if that’s the case then just let covid player play! Because any number of Clyde players being in close contact could pass it on. If it’s like what east fife are reporting no way will they be sanctioned, let’s see Clyde next few games and if changing room players will be part of track and trace to isolate.

player in the squad on saturday and spent 7 hour round trip with 50% of his team mates in the same vehicle as well as changing rooms and close contacts in periods inbetween before testing positive, Can`t see anyone saying east fife were in the wrong other than Clyde

A minimal risk of catching a life threatening virus and possibly passing it on to a few folk who could in turn passit on, eventually finding someone who gets it bad and is seriously ll,l or even dies, is a minimal risk I wouldn't want to take.

Be interesting if there are further cases.

Since the restart players are asked to maintain distance during goal celebrations yet they all share a bus to games, a nonsense really.

I am with East Fife here. No football match is worth the risk however how minimal in the situation we are STILL in.

If it is accurate that Clyde had someone who has tested positive in the dressing room then action needs to be taken against them.
The player should have been in self isolation. They are breaching Covid regulations and this should actually be a police matter and the player charged.

"I`m with the SPFL on this one they were told the risk was minimal and East Fife just shoved two fingers up to Clyde and the rest of the league."

Happy to be corrected - I was under the impression that anybody testing positive for Covid 19 is to self isolate for at least 10 days ?

https://faq.covid19.nhs.uk/article/KA-01178/en-us

If that is the scenario here - how did the JRG conclude there was minimal risk ?

If the player was diagnosed last Saturday he should not have been anywhere near his teammates, let alone travel with them to a match.

It appears Clyde have some questions to answer, likewise the JRG if they did give the game the green light.

Where is Prof. Jason Leitch when he`s needed ?

They only found out 40 mins before the game was due to start and he left after finding out so i can't see anything that Clyde have done wrong

Thanks for that.

That apart, East Fife were right not to play.

The JRG still need to answer obvious questions.

So he travelled down with the team, was in the changing room with them, East Fife don`t have big changing rooms, which means there would be a decent number of close contacts.... I fail to see how this is East Fife shoving 2 fingers up to Clyde and the league?

The SPFL’s disciplinary tribunal fined East Fife £11,000, of which £1,000 is payable now to the SPFL Trust, and the remaining £10,000 is suspended.

"The rescheduled Clyde v East Fife match will now take place next Thursday, 6 May."

An SPFL spokesperson added: "Clearly, the circumstances surrounding Tuesday’s match were difficult for all involved.

"However, the advice from members of the Joint Response Group was clear and unequivocal.

The players won’t be crammed into normal dressing room areas - rather East Fife will be using much bigger spaces as per their protocols. I assume player either travelled in his car or was suitably socially distanced on any bus

I noticed that the English Premier clubs were using 3 coaches to make their players safe. I have wondered how our players go to away games. Are we using more than 1 coach, or are our players using their own cars?

I assume the positive Clyde player wasn’t in the East Fife dressing room so is their complaint that some of the other Clyde players may have been infected?

East Fife have got off lightly as you can't just simply ignore advice from the JRG
