 Who`s the new gaffer?
Topic Originator: Connor560
Date:   Tue 18 May 10:23

So, Stevie Crawford has resigned after a season where we made the playoffs but had months of poor performances.

Who is your realistic preference of new coach to come in? Will we go for someone on the manager merry go round, someone completely left field, a German?

If anyone plans to say Ray MacKinnon - please don`t comment!

Personally hope it is not Petrie ( Nothing against him)

I am hoping we can lure a decent manager to the club and really try and kick on getting the club back to the SPL, maybe with the investors really showing some ambition?

Daniel Standel would be my choice. Seemed hard done by with Hearts, would he come though? Media reports he has turned down some decent job offering. He is German and has played alongside one of our investors/...

Someone said Stendel has signed somewhere already.

This was the question I kept asking around Stevie going as a lot of the suggested names weren't setting the heather alight!

It depends on the budget. With the BOD’s wanting to bring in youth to cultivate and sell on, it would make sense to push the boat out and spend a bit more on getting a decent manager with a lot of experience at top levels.

At the moment it’s no time to go for another lower league manager with no experience at higher levels.

disappointed to see him go, but sometimes there are more important than football in someones life.

was really a no win situation for him but now we move on as we would have if he stayed.

people moaned at how quick decision was made last time, but this time its probably gonna be sorted in the next week to 10 days i would suggest.

18th May now and in the next few weeks the club and new manager will need to have plans in place for the coming season and player targets etc, wait too long and could have detrimental effect on the season coming up.

as for who would i like to see come in, really dont know but at the moment i would say someone with decent full time managerial experience is a must.

Just had a quick look at McBookie, nothing for us yet but they do have a list for ICT so I`d imagine ours will look similar although some are purely due to the location and I`d imagine we could attract a bigger name -

Billy Dodds
Barry Robson
Paul Sheerin
Petrie
D Young
Kettlewell
Robertson
Michael Beale
Stuart McCall
Daly
Peter Grant
AJ (nope)
Gary Locke
Robinson
McInnes
McIntyre
McCulloch
McGhee
McKinnon
Butcher
Caldwell

Some absolute shockers in there

How not? Could we be a lee attractive option than Kilmarnock? Just because we’ve papers say so it must be true. Didn’t the courier just publish an article saying Crawford would be here next season? If you want a debate at least have some substance.

"Some absolute shockers in there"

thats an understatement but thats what you will be looking at really, McInnes and Robinson are no chance whatsoever.

who makes the final decision, the current board or the "investors"?
a 1 year deal until the takeover goes through assuming it actually does and not before then?
how many of those names will work with a sporting director based in Germany they might never actually meet depending on circumstances?

there are a hell of a lot of questions beyond that too.

For me the BOD need to give next season a real go! Go big or go home so my choice would be McInnes! The only club I could see him go to would be West Brom given his ties to the club but if we table the right offer and a clear club route then we may tempt him and also its a lot close to home! Either way i dont want an ex player who`s learning their trade in the lower leagues, we need experience over anything else.

Dick Campbell. Done a great job on a shoe string budget at Arbroath!! Said in his interview the last time he was at east end. Dunfermline was his club !! Said in a interview last year there’s only 2 full time clubs that would interest him (Dunfermline Dundee United), he’s would be great working with the young squad as his man management skills are second to none, and experience he would bring with near 1400 games in the dugout and not forgetting he should never have been pushed out the door the last time because Yorkson and Masterton didn’t like him

Next Permanent Dunfermline Manager now available on McBookie -

Petrie 2/1
D Young 4/1
McCann 6/1
S McCall / 6/1
Houston 7/1
Peter Grant 8/1
AJ 8/1
John Kennedy 10/1
Kearney 12/1
McKinnon 12/1
Stubbs 16/1
Canning 16/1

Would imagine some more would be added as time goes on.

Alex Neil would be out of our league. He`s on the same page as Robinson, McInnes etc.

Is it just me but surely the Germans will want some kind of input and if they do I think the bookie list would almost be redundant.

The other thing that would worry me slightly is if this resignation has come out the blue what does that mean for pre season plans etc , did we have a list of transfer targets and that may be affected.

If they are ambitious and have the money, then Robinson isn`t a totally unrealistic shout.

Not that I am comparing him to AJ, but we attracted him after leaving Kilmarnock to come manage us in League 1. His stock was relatively high back then and many seen that as a bit of a coup. I was certainly surprised at it at the time as we all thought he was way out our affordability. We just don`t know what the club`s financial muscle is or the ambitions of the manager either.

Petrie would be my choice though. Or a complete out the box name, Tim Walter, formerly of Stuttgart. He is German, out of a job, and has a decent win record.

Did Petrie not take over at Montrose when they had finished bottom of the 4th tier?

He won the 3rd division, almost got them to the Championship - only to be Dobbied in the 2nd leg of the final - and has again got them into the Championship playoffs this season.

He's done a phenomenal job there.

Dick Campbell`s name now added to the McBookie list at 14/1.

A St.Mirren fan responded to the clubs announcement waxing lyrical about Kearney. Said that he kept them up via playoffs, good unbeaten run, clean sheet records and attractive football. Also a big success before leaving NI and on his return. He finished by saying that if Goodwin left he`d be top of his list to come back to Paisley.

He said that he left due to personal/family reasons and disagreements with the chairman over travelling back and forth. I would imagine this will still be the situation now so can`t see it unless there`s been a change there.

"experience" might not be interested in what the club are wanting to do plus with the takeover in the background too.

3 of them are on the board but how much input will they have? are you even looking at all parties having to agree on the process in terms of who is making the final decisions etc before even considering a new manager? it is not a decision that can be rushed but add in all the other stuff there, contract renewals too, it could get quite messy over the next few weeks at a time when we dont have time to wait/waste.

We need someone with experience, pedigree, success and, preferably, a link to Dunfermline Athletic.

Of those on the bookie list Jim McIntyre stands out.

A successful player and Manager, he also won the Scottish League Cup.

A decade ago he took us into the Premiership ten points clear of Raith Rovers and having won numerous Manager Of The Month awards.

He is often at East End watching a game or was before the Pandemic.

A Club with our ambitions should not be looking at Managers in League 1.

problem you have with peter grant is that alloa can attract the best scottish part timers and some of those part timers are better than full timers that play in this league.

How would grant compare when he`s a smaller fish in the full time world?

Petrie is too much of a gamble, not managed a full time game or any full time staff. I heard he had a decent job outside of football that we might not be able to match.

Not a huge fan of these ex players getting a shout, it very rarely works at any level.

Forget the bookies list, it has no bearing on reality. When it has Campbell who we sacked, McIntyre who we sacked, AJ who we sacked, McCann who we sacked, Grant whose team was relegated, need I go on? Let's advertise, see who applies and have a proper interview process.

Houston, Hughes and even McCall worked out quite well for Falkirk, Levein did a great job at Hearts first time around, Callum Davidson isn`t exactly a disaster at St. Johnstone...

It`s bit simplistic to say it rarely works out at any level. It probably doesn`t work out when someone is appointed purely because of their links to a club.

Forget the bookies list, it has no bearing on reality. When it has Campbell who we sacked, McIntyre who we sacked, AJ who we sacked, McCann who we sacked, Grant whose team was relegated, need I go on? Let's advertise, see who applies and have a proper interview process.

Did we not stiff McIntyre for quite a few quid in severance pay by virtue of going into administration?

I don't think advertising the job is as big a deal as people think it is. As soon as these jobs come up people that are interested fire in their CVs anyway. I think the football world will be well aware of where the vacancies are and dare I say it even those that are on a shoogly peg but haven't yet been relieved of their position.

There must be a fair chance the guy who made up that list was either a Falkirk fan, well p!ssed, or both.

Advertising the position equally gives everyone believed to possess the skill set required and is genuinely interested in the role to throw their hat in.

There’s certainly no guarantee but the odds are more favourable if you have a selection of candidates by casting the net wide.

We need a clean slate appointing someone like McIntyre would just be a negative from the very start.

Although he won us the league my memory is that he wasn't all that popular amongst our fans.

We need somebody fresh so that everyone from the start is behind the manager

For the vast majority of jobs in life you'd be right and it would be daft not to advertise them but I can't see who in management is waiting to see an official job advert before they apply for a job. If you're looking for a job in football management you know where the vacancies are.

Here's a name for discussion. An experienced manager with a decent track record in Scotland and England, also an ex Par. Been out of work for a few years now but applied for the Hearts job in 2017 and recently mentioned as a possible for the Aberdeen job.

Quote by Craig Brown, "He is one of the most knowledgeable coaches in the game. He did his UEFA Pro license but also did the academy license as well,” he said.

“I was working with him and he pulled out this ring binder. You ought to have seen the size of this thing. It was huge.
If he had submitted it to a university he would have ended up with a PHD."

The name? ....

From the obvious names I'd really like Petrie.

I'd accept Levein or McIntyre and could see the logic behind both, outwith that though I'd be pretty disappointed.

However the Germans may surprise us, or maybe not.

The last time the board advertised the job they looked at what we needed and nailed it by getting AJ, I have faith they'll make the correct decision.

Steven Robinson does tick every box.

If he were appointed ( he is currently unemployed as is Jim McIntyre) it would tell us all we need to know of our German Owners` ambitions.

Their avowed aim is to get Dunfermline Athletic into the Premiership and stay there.

Time to see the evidence.

I don`t know that but it`s fairly clear that Steven Robinson, Derek McInnes or Alex Neil won`t be our next manager and I would have a guess that they would be looking for a decent sized compensation package that we can`t afford, German investors or not. We were told that there wouldn`t be massive signing spree`s on the playing side, I`d imagine the club won`t be flinging the cash about for managers either. Just a feeling.

Correct, you don't know. Then you say, "It's fairly clear that it won't be Robinson, McInnes or Neil". How is it fairly clear? Once again, you don't know. As regards the compensation packages you refer to, can you explain what they would be for as all 3 are currently not with a club?

And finally, the manager is the most important appointment the club will make, more important than any individual player, so it is worth going the extra yard to try to get the right person.

I watched montrose against the rovers last season and some of the football they played that day was superb.

I think it finished 4-3 in the rovers favour but montrose played very well.

Petrie has been the manager of montrose for at least 4/5 seasons so plenty of time to have his team play in a certain way.

Would he get that at dunfermline that is always the problem

As Director of Football, Thomas Meggle should currently be looking after the contracts and pre-season signings. Hopefully, he will be free to travel in and out of Scotland soon. Meanwhile, presumably contractual negotiations with players can be handled on zoom.

Meggle could well be our manager if he fancies the challenge. But I would be a bit wary as his stats as a manager at St Pauli are not that impressive.

CrossPar has hit the nail on the head.

There are some outstanding Managers out there with NO COMPENSATION PACKAGE.

The ones being mentioned would be transformational for this Club.

I have utmost confidence in the Board in getting this right.

CrossPar is a slavering eejit that should never be listed to under any circumstances 😉

Compensation in the sense TTC used it means total reward package not compensation to a club.

Quick check of previously published salaries are:

McInnes - base salary circa £750k at Aberdeen
Neil - couldn't find his Preston salary but Norwich paid him £4m when they let him go
Robinson - base salary circa £450k a year.

Although they obviously earn £0 at the moment (at least in terms of management McInnes is clearly getting paid for commentating) none of them would be desperate for a job and even if they were interested we'd have to convince them to take a job at a lower level, on a team needing a rebuild with a smaller budget and much smaller salary than they've had recently.

All of them could work at League 1 minimum in England and quite possibly all of them in the Championship for far more money as a salary and a budget.

Keep in mind our turnover fluctuates roughly between £1.6 and £1.8m and that's to pay for the running of the club in its entirety.

They've all done well as managers but the chances of any of them realisticly wanting the job are pretty small.

Edit: Memo to self when you're slagging someone on .net make sure the rest of your post is accurate. Amended Robinson's estimated salary from weekly to yearly but he's still highly likely out of our budget.

The new owners will find the right person. Its not so much the person but having the right systems in place that fit the ambition of the club. With the right systems in place and the right people to work within it that is what is important. With the right systems when you change personnel, there is less of an impact.

I wonder how much full time managers in our league are on? I would have a guess at about 75k a year. Some would be on more but to get a good manager we will have to pay.

"Correct, you don`t know. Then you say, "It`s fairly clear that it won`t be Robinson, McInnes or Neil". How is it fairly clear? Once again, you don`t know. As regards the compensation packages you refer to, can you explain what they would be for as all 3 are currently not with a club?"

I`ll say it`s fairly clear because I can`t see it happening. It`s just my opinion, I feel I`d be in a majority with that opinion. I`ll eat my hat if McInnes, Robinson or Neil are appointed.

And when I mentioned compensation, it was more the weekly salary of those managers. Not a package to steal them from a club.

Houston retired from management, the other 2 will not work under a sporting director/director of football (Meggle) unless they are scrapping that idea but thats another one in the many questions box.

hopefully there is some sort of update by the end of Friday as to what might happen or is happening.

I personally don’t think Dair will be at the club. He was brought in as a coach under Stevie. Can’t see him staying on if Stevie’s gone.

Shields seems to have a bit more connection to the youth. I’d like to see him continue there. We had Potter doing that job, then he became manager and then left. Then Crawford was doing that job, he became the manager and left. I’d like Shields to stay on if he’s happy to do that. I’d imagine a new manager will want an assistant of their own, maybe another coach also.

Good to read that Ross Hart at the "Dunfermline Press" and a journalist with his finger on the pulse suggests Alan Stubbs will be in the frame.

That is the sort of Manager`s CV a big club like Dunfermline needs to be considering , not assorted folk from Leagues 1 and 2 and the Lowland League.

His staggering 58% win rate and capture of the Scottish Cup at Hibs are just the pedigree we need.

at Hibs 5 years ago.

since then a 26% win record at Rotherham (1 win in 14) and StMirren (5 wins in 9, 4 wins were league cup group games and 2 of those were on penalties so shouldnt actually be classed as a win)

Fergie was certainly not a disaster at Love St, AAPS. He took St Mirren up to the SPL or whatever it was called then and turned them into the closest challengers to the OF. He was sacked after a row with the chairman and Aberdeen promptly snapped him up.

You'll know the rest.....

Stubbs' record post-Hibs is honking and his recruitment policy at St Mirren was a disaster (heard a couple compare it with Anelka at Raith all those years ago) so would not be keen on that one.

Also, i get folk maybe aiming high but there's being optimistic and then there's being deluded. Alex Neil and folk operating at that level are looking to go forwards in their career, not four or five steps back.

Let’s bring in an experienced foreign coach for a club our size with his own backroom staff and change things up a bit... Anything is better than that did Levein!

We really need a fresh different approach imo.
These ex pars in lower divisions and old style managers are not the way forward imo.
A manager with decent/trusted backroom staff is needed with an attacking mind playing football.
I really don’t know who but a fresh approach is needed to get the team going.

My thoughts are that we need a manager who's focus is attacking football rather than a solid unit that grinds out results. Looking at the players already signed for next year, we already have a very solid back 4 of Comrie, Watson Gašpuitis, Edwards.

If we get someone who can get consistent performances from Thomas/Wighton/O'Hara then we're in great shape. Dow could be like a new signing as well if he recovers to the same player.

Be careful what you wish for and all that, but I hope it's someone from outside Scottish football.

Football has massively changed since then...we need to look into the future and totally reshape this team with new ideas etc and that will only come under a new management team brought in.

The same Zorniger that knocked back FC Twente?

In his last job took a team to 2nd in the Danish super league and won the cup with them and Has an overall win ratio of 55%.

Listen - if that’s a goer (highly doubt it is) then that’s potentially really exciting. But I find it hard to see how a guy linked with Barnsley, who knocked back FC twente and DC United would come to a mid table 2nd tier Scottish team. Unless the main attraction is the overall project, which would see me expecting the full German takeover land a bit earlier than anticipated.

If Alan Stubbs is "a terrible Manager" sic with a 58% win rate and a Scottish FA Cup success, I will take a "terrible Manager" any time.

How do you assess Stevie Crawford with his 37% win success?

Your knowledge of Scottish football is absolutely dreadful.

Stubbs had that inflated win percentage because he was managing a club with vastly superior resources in the championship, and even then he never got Hibs promoted from the championship in two seasons. In the second season he even finished below Falkirk before losing to them in the playoffs.

He followed that up with a dreadful time at Rotherham, followed up by an even worse spell at St Mirren where he nearly undone all the work they'd done getting to the prem.

And yet you think he could get Dunfermline promoted from the championship?

I found this info below on Zorniger today.

Look, given the Meggle connection, if he`s at all interested in a project here at the Pars, I would happily paint my body pink and yellow, dance naked down the full length of the Halbeath Road, and sing "I LUV YU ALEXANDER" in a yodelling fashion...

And I don`t think I would be alone...

Care to join me???

:)

ALEXANDER ZORNIGER

At Brøndby Zorniger employed a radical style of football known in Denmark as overfaldsfodbold; where teams attempt to overwhelm their opponents through aggressive pressing - picture an extreme form of Gegenpressing.

https://twitter.com/i/status/754734584487698432

In a nutshell his team were characterised by their intensity, courage, ability to take risks and their lightning fast transitions. An article in the publication Information describes Zorniger’s use of a stopwatch in training sessions:

“Once a team has captured the ball, it has had eight seconds to reach a finish - while the team that has just lost the ball has had five seconds to win it back. Thus, both the defense and offensive chain are forced to act with great fury.”
During his time at the club he also made history by fielding a team without a single Danish player - something that had never happened in the Superliga before. Of his decision, Zorniger said:

"We fish in a very small lake (in Brøndby`s talent academy) and right now we do not have the quality to take two or three players from there every year."

During his brief time in charge of Stuttgart, Zorniger managed Timo Werner, the Chelsea forward.

Back then (2015) Werner was only 19-years-old and was struggling to nail down a starting position under Zorniger. "I am not his nanny," Zorniger said at the time. "He should not be satisfied with just making the squad."

Then, a month later, Zorniger wasn’t too impressed with Werner’s goal celebration during a 2-2 draw with Hoffenheim:

“We could have won 3-2, but Werner was so busy blowing kisses to the crowd after his equaliser that he forgot to focus on scoring a winner.”

At Brøndby he managed Teemu Pukki, who in his two full seasons under the coach hammered in 48 goals.

"We [Brondy] got a new coach after the first two years,” Pukki told Sky Sports in June. “He was a tough German manager who got us into shape and changed our mentality about football. That really helped me."

Is he currently available for hire?

Yes. Zorniger has been out of work since February 2019, when he left Brondby mid-way through his third season.

He was recently linked with Schalke after they sacked David Wagner, and a few months ago he was reportedly in the mix to take charge of Steve McClaren’s former club FC Twente.

With Zorniger, fans will witness attacking and aggressive brand of football, while the players will be pushed to their absolute limit in training.

He will speak his mind, he’s very demanding and isn’t afraid to push people’s buttons or challenge the existing culture at a club.

In other words, expect a roller coaster ride.

He also has a track record of attaining two promotions.

Zorniger seems unlikely.

If he did arrive at EEP, it would either be fantastic - with us playing like Klopp`s Dortmund or Liverpool at their best - or he could alienate the entire squad within 6 weeks and leave the place in ruins a la Magath at Fulham.

It would be interesting at least.

it massively improves it alongside the record against part time teams

championship+playoffs comparsion: Crawford 34.25%, Johnston 36.17%
against full time opposition in all comps: Crawford 32.84%, Johnston 27.96%
against part time opposition in all comps: Crawford 52.38%, Johnston 72%

I don't think many people are saying "foreign = good", but a foreign coach may bring new ideas and different training methods, not to mention knowledge of / connections with oversees players that could significantly improve the squad?

^^ perhaps but it will be difficult to implement those methods with the current training restrictions in place certainly short term.

"Do get the impression we are waiting on a statement from the Chairman thats going to give the club new direction"

if i was going to predict that i think it will be more of a tweak rather than a brand new plan, whoever the manager is will have to fit whatever changes are planned of course

Have a hunch you are right. Unless the German investors bring forward their future plans and take over now, any thoughts of a foreign influence in the coaching staff in the current pandemic and brexit circumstance is probably premature.

Which then takes you to the current list of potentials.

Levein is the one where I’m most conflicted. I’ve met him a few times in the past and always found him quite dry and witty, he’s more self aware than the impression he gives off. The Hearts experience will have damaged him, maybe he has something to prove. Never struck me as anti Pars when I spoke to him, on the contrary from memory.

Peter Houston is currently under 21 assistant manager with Scotland, maybe the board are thinking he might do a short term (one season) job for us? For all he had one bad season at Falkirk, he previously had a good rep for developing players, and has won the Scottish cup. He would be preferable to me for a lot on the current “list”.

I don't think Houston was even allowed a bad season. They punted him in October/November time.

SC obviously cared about his job and the club otherwise he wouldnt have felt burnt out. He should have taken a few weeks break and then made a decision.

Are you serious ? Stevie was never getting a new contract and it was better to say he resigned than sacking him to save face as a pars legend.

Foreign could go both ways though, these 'contacts' could be a breath of fresh air like Steve Archibald had at Airdrie and unearthed three or four gems or it could be like Claude Anelka at Raith.

As for Levein i wouldn't have a problem with that. Very pragmatic and has a reputation for being direct filling his team with guys who are physically big and powerful but i'd say that is what we need at this level.

John Kennedy, would be a statement of intent if we managed to bring him in, man wanting to pave his way in management I’m sure and working with Celtic will have some good experience and contacts.

Stewart Petrie, he has done wonders with Montrose, if he was given the time I think he’d be a good one for us too.

When does players contracts end May or June. The reason I'm asking is who is in charge of the playing staff, is it Greg Shields or Owain Fon Williams. The only other coach is Steven Whitaker. Perhaps Greg will also be going and Steven might not get a contract.

The number of coaches is similar to every other club, infact when seeing OFW being gk coach and playing brings the overall staff number down, Whitts wasn't doing a lot of coaching sessions just the odd one one using his experience to help the rest of the coaching set up.

I`ve never expected us to be world beaters, but better than the utter crap we were served up this season? Absolutely.

Noted that McBookie take the manager odds off overnight and across the weekend for some reason. Odds have just been reposted and Petrie is still 4/6 but Shields is now up to second fave at 5/1, Grant at 6/1 and Levein, Young and Kennedy at 8/1. The highest place foreign manager is Alex Zorniger at 10/1.

Mcbookie is a tiny company, met the 2 guys about 7 years ago ( they were looking for a live platform) and was intrigued as they were doing junior odds (the first) most If not all of the odds will just be bought in, with me minimum staffing, so yes, it will be someone posting up the usual suspects, having a look on this forum, and chucking a few with Pars connections in there for interest

Pretty sure 20 quid or so would move the price.

I`d think you`re right but of the three (Crawford and Dair) Shields was the one who I felt was the most capable. I watched the U20`s a season back and it was evident he had instilled his own brand of Football on them and they were actually a good watch. I wouldn`t be averse to him being involved still with any academy or 20`s set-up but we will have to see what news if any the Chairman brings on those fronts in his next update.

To be fair, there was a fair few of us that wanted Stevie to give players a lambasting after some displays. He followed protocol and said "played well". We all say things we shouldn't when we are pi55ed off. His just happened to be on national tv interview.

Let’s hope the Board have better judgement than those of you who consider lambasting a professional squad of players before an important game and you think they were supposed to “learn from it”.

Don`t get me wrong, fans abusing players on the street for being poor should never happen but bosses/managers criticise staff members in every job when they`re not pulling their weight. Footballers are just more in the spot light. Sometimes an arm round the shoulder will be needed but some players will need a right boot up the backside.

Any experienced manager who is likely to be a candidate for the Pars` job is bound to have a blip or two on his cv. We`re not looking to employ a paragon of virtue - just a football manager who hopefully will have learned from his mistakes.

He didn’t single anyone out either was all at team level, he didn’t slate them in a manner that Mourinho has done which is worse in my opinion.

Rovers progression since Hughes left shows how badly he got it wrong.

Jim Duffy could get football stopped and he's pretty much failed at every single gig he's had. Quality centre back and Chelsea players spoke very highly of him as a coach but I don't want him anywhere near us as a manager irrespective of how nice a bloke he might be away from football.

One of my mates has said we're meant to be talking to Peter Grant but no idea if he's right but I'd prefer it if he was wrong.

He comes across well in interviews too so I don't doubt you but having seen the way his teams play and the fact he's not actually got a great track record are a big no for me. I don't see any circumstance where we get him as a coach but I'd bite your hand off to have him in a coaching position purely from the way Chelsea players spoke about him.

Hard on Grant with a part time team andvery low budget. I thought comments on here during the season indicated that most liked the way he had Alloa playing. Punching well above their weight with some very good results. Just not enough resources rather than poor management.

Grant didn`t get Alloa relegated to be fair, a poor defence and strike force, a lack of finances and being part time probably got Alloa relegated.

I can understand why people would like Grant as manager but it would be a very disappointing appointment for me. We need someone with a decent record at past clubs. Yogi and Petrie would be the two I would be delighted with. I don`t have a clue about the foreign managers we`re seemingly linked with..

Norwich for a year in 2006 and was caretaker at Fulham for 6 weeks or something.

"Allegedly might be a short term move until the investors can pick their man"

so thats 4 or 5 months going by the posts further up. doesnt matter who it is, the investors have to be picking this or next season is a bit of a write off imo, a manager for a year, putting a squad together for a year then clear out everyone to start again.

I’m reading some of the posts above and actually can’t believe what I’m reading.

Peter Grant, was manager, of the team that’s survived the last couple of seasons, but under him, went down. That, is failure. Pretty football and all that nonsense won’t last any time here without results. For some of the posters to allude otherwise is just fanciful nonsense.

If that’s who the board chooses, I think it’s a huge mistake, but like any other Pars fan, I hope he’s the real deal and ushers in a new era of greatness.

Would rather have seen Crawford given another year than see us replace him with Peter Grant ffs. That would be a seriously horrendous appointment.

The relentless foul language from Peter at the streaming of the game at Alloa was objectionable and inexcusable.

Yes one might expect some industrial language but this was off the Richter scale and disgraceful.

Peter Grant , Not for me !!
Is this another easy option for us from the Board ,I thought our aim was to get out of this league , (not caring what people say about he did well at a part time team etc ) He is another person that does not have a proven record )
Nothing against him but this sort of appointment would not Inspire me one little bit !
hoping it`s not true !!
I`m not expecting Klopp or Pep or anything like that but certainly hoping we will get someone better than a cheap option again ,

Is Terry Butcher still based in Scotland? According to wikipedia he works at Ipswich Town`s academy. His last role as a club manager was at Newport County where he was sacked in 2015 when they were bottom of League 2 after gaining 5 points from their first 10 games. He then had jobs in the Philippines and China.

Amazing how a few hours can change the atmosphere isn't it!!!

John Hughes leaves Ross County and majority would accept him in a heart beat, then the news of Peter Grant getting interviewed hits and it's gone full 180 !!

Issue Peter Grant would have is he is not gonna win over the fans no matter what, from day one would be large section of support against the appointment as was with Crawford.

No, the issue with Peter Grant is, he’s clearly and old style bully boy manager that works fine with part time players as they still have a main job to go to.
Try that with a full time club and he’ll lose the dressing room very quickly.

Aye exactly what I was thinking. I would happily accepted Yogi but no sure On Grant. Yeah his part time team played decent football but not sure he fits in other aspects of our club ethos. We are a community focused club and want to engage more with community commercial and voluntary groups. Pretty sure the German investors wouldn't take kindly to hearing foul mouthed rants from the dugout every game.
You can show passion and get your needs across without shouting and using foul language.

So for me Yogi was a positive and Grants a negative. Butcher...it's another no. There was me no fussed a week ago now getting picky!!

Anyway, I think the club should be thinking outside the box and go for Shelley Kerr. It's about time there was a female football manager. It's going to happen, so we might as well open the floodgates

I don't mind that thinking but I think Scotland under achieved under her. If we were going to go for a female manager I'd much rather be ambitious and go for Emma Hayes. Chelsea ladies is probably a bigger gig than managing in the Scottish second tier though.

I cannot believe the speed with which excitement over attracting John Hughes turned into dismay at him not being considered.

Yet other clubs` Fans Forums regard him as the favourite for East End Park.

I did not say that I condemned a Manager`s industrial language.I do not expect an Angel. My concern was that his abuse was excessive. The Board are appointing an individual to represent the club so its a "no" from me.I do not want someone linguistically challenged.

Months ago the German Investors said,to their credit, they wanted someone who would get us into the Premiership and establish ourselves there.

The likes of John Hughes,Stephen Robinson,Alan Stubbs and(though not my choice) Craig Levein could achieve that.

For me Grant and Hughes are a little uninspiring however whoever is selected should be given a fair crack of the whip and the opportunity to get on with the job

The comments surrounding a few sweary words would not be relevant in normal circumstances, I recon every game I have watched during lockdown has had an apology of some sort regarding industrial language

Spot on - and just because Peter Grant is being interviewed doesn`t mean he`s got the job.”

But are they? That’s the big question. The BOD have previous of taking the cheap and easy way out. Jobs for the boys springs to mind.

The main thing the BOD have previous for is running the club with good governance within a zero credit environment.

Agreed and personally Iong may it continue. Never want to see our club at risk again.
What we do need and it should be made clear upon announcing new manager is the overall goal with a time line. I feel we need a timescale to give manager time to fix things out the way he feels he needs to. If no then every one and their dug will be on his back first time we get defeated twice in a row.

All this lazy talk about the `cheap option` has started already and no one has been appointed yet. I would expect the BOD to select an affordable option which is a different thing entirely

If players can`t take a rollicking for being awful most of the season, they shouldn`t be playing football. Yogi was spot on.

Well said!! Some on here would want them to just be told they had been naughty and then cuddled to make them feel OK again lol

PARS207 Have you ever had a rollicking in public? It's not at all nice.
I have and I have to say I learned a lesson that day as did my Gaffer. He roared and screamed at me for around 20 seconds in front of everyone.

The lesson he learned was don't try to be a big main front of people

The lesson I learned was don't knock yer gaffer on his @rse if you want to stay employed

East End Park is a symbol of all that is DAFC.

Whoever is appointed will be a gamble - including an experienced manager with a proven track record - assuming we can afford one. Managers can be successful at one club and fail dismally at another - remember Brian Clough's 44 days at Leeds? More recently, serial trophy winner, Jose Mourinho has nose dived at Spurs and was also sacked by Man U and Chelsea (twice.)

I suggested Butcher when Craw got the job. Seems to me that his demands of total commitment from his players got results at Inverness and Motherwell.
Yogi appeals to me too when I hear him speak. I like how he comes across.

It is clear most fans want John Hughes or would accept him.

Unlike some others.

Aye but most fans on here isnt most fans. Also its only the most vocal fans on here.

Count those who have commented, it really isnt many and lots of posts are the same person re-posting.

We often make the mistake of thinking a majority have a cerain view because it appears that way on here.

I have it on good authority, and unfortunately I cannot say who, that Stewart Petrie has been interviewed.

That is not to say he has got the job, but at least it shows the BoD are undertaking due diligence and taking their time to try and get teh correct appointment made.

Why would they do that? What are they gonna do, have a twitter poll about who to appoint?
