 Your Short Leet
Topic Originator: Sliema Par

Many fans have outlined the Managers they would want and those they definitely wouldn`t want.

Okay, imagine you are a member of the Board.

Giving it careful consideration, who is on your short Leet of four to be handed to Ross?

You may answer in English or German.

Mine, to start us off ,is Hughes,Robinson ,Stubbs and McGlynn.

Yogi - He`d be my number one at the moment.

Petrie - Sentimental reasons aside, I think he`s a great up and coming manager and I think he would do really well with us.

Craig Levein - Regardless of people`s opinions on his second stint at Scotland, his second stint at Hearts or even him being a Raith fan I think he`d get us promoted and keep us up in the Premiership.

Alex Zorniger - If we`re going German, he was the one on the bookies list that I liked the most of. Plus Thomas Meggle is his agent or has the same agent so there was a small connection above the other two.

Would love it to be Zoringer, but suspect it’s too early in the German journey for that kind of appointment. We probably need an experienced hand even if just for a short basis.

Acceptable
- Hughes
- Petrie
- Houston

Debatable
- Levein

Get in the bin
- Grant
- Stubbs
- McCann
- Hartley

Out of our scope/can’t afford
- Robinson
- McInnes

Assuming guys like McInnes and Robinson are outside our budget and wouldn`t fancy the Scottish Championship anyway, I`d go for Hughes with Grant as an alternative. Although I found Grant`s touchline tirades tiresome (rather than offensive) I believe he has a reputation within the game as being an excellent coach.

Bear in mind that young up and coming managers can make the club compensation money too if they get tapped up by a bigger club whilst still under contract.

For me Hughes/Petrie
Billy Reid ( I wish, but there is no chance )
Bullen
Robinson

Not surprised to have the forums resident spam artist again choosing what they want to understand and read.

1 - I said probably.
2 - Petrie has 5 years experience
3 - Levein divides opinion on this forum so not a stretch to think it would be a debatable appointment
4 - Peter Grant has a horrendous win percentage.

the names all mentioned just show that every manager has ups and downs, clearly some wont be cut out for management but at this level we are realistically gonna be getting someone whos got a mixed bag of failures and good times.

at best i reckon would be a 70/30 split on here for the man who gets appointed in terms of being in favour off.

If we are about to create an Academy and new training ground I would suggest Levein would come into consideration given his experience at Hearts. Not my choice I’d have to say but his background might fit plans at board level.

Thanks for your explanation, ya melt. I agree with you re Levein although I really dislike him as a person for a good reason that I'm not at liberty to divulge. Grant's win percentage would probably be a fair bit higher if he hadnt been at Alloa for a while.

Deffo a Scottish word but I think it IS in the dictionary but mainly used in Scotland. I recently employed someone in England and asked her and she said she didn't know it as a word.

I`m surprised `leet` was questioned. In my experience it`s used quite commonly in the business world in Scotland and I would trust Sliema Par to get it right. It would be a shame if such Scotticisms dropped out of the language.

I too am surprised at the phrase "short leet " being questioned ?
I remember it being used frequently .
Fwiw , Peter Grant wouldn't made my short leet , but if he gets my job he'll get time , as SC did to build his own team .
I would imagine he would like to keep quite a few of last season's squad , but ultimately, it'll be up to him . If he is the choice .

I've never heard of Short Leet before in all my days. But..... I like it, and, I'm gonna start using it.

As for managers, I'd be happy with
Yogi Hughes
Dick Campbell
Stewart Petrie

I'd even be satisfied enough with
Peter Grant, assisted by Jim Duffy
Jim McIntire
Craig Levein
Alexander Nouri

If money was no object
Zorniger would be my preference
McInness

But, its going to be Thorsten Vink

The Scottish Language Centre and the Collins and Oxford dictionaries all define a "Leet" as "a group of eligible persons for a post".

In tomorrow`s discussion on grammar we discuss the spelling of "definitely".

Now can we defiantly return to the actual topic?
