Could well be a decent appointment for them in the long run. He worked wonders at Cardiff until the big fall out with the chairman happened...

Good to see him get another chance after the heinous crime of saying something stupid in a text. Hypocrites assemble!

Slight understatement. There were multiple texts with him being racist, sexist, homophobic and anti-Semitic.

Which is out of order, definitely but I’m sure he’s learned from it. People can’t be punished forever for making mistakes. People can change.

From BBC:-

Here are some of the text messages alleged to have been shared by Moody and Mackay, as reported in the Daily Mail on Thursday:

"He`s a snake, a gay snake. Not to be trusted." Referring to an official at another club.
"Not many white faces amongst that lot but worth considering." Referring to a list of potential signings.
"Go on, fat Phil. Nothing like a Jew that sees money slipping through his fingers." On football agent Phil Smith.

Hard to forgive based on those.

Declan Gallagher imprisoned for a year for assault, David Martindale 4 years , surely there has to be a route to redemption.

It’s a tough one to square off for me. Both those examples were much younger than Mackay plus he was in a position of authority - should know better?

Disagree, I think People should be punished for ever and ever and ever with no reprieve or forgiveness, ever, so that they pay for their mistakes all their lives, in fact the shame should be passed down to his kids too...and their kids too.
It's the dot net moral code way.

Are you Paralex in disguise, 1985? 🙂

The stuff he was involved in is abhorrent and he lost his job over it - no sympathy there. How long must he be punished for it though? Should he not be allowed to work in football again and is it OK for him to be employed in some other capacity? The alternative is that he stays at home and claims state benefit.

Was he not obliged to attend an educational, remedial course to learn and understand why his behaviour was unacceptable? If he wasn't, he should have been. People who are convicted of drink driving have the choice of attending a course - which they must pay for - or face a longer ban.

It was just words, while not very nice, hardly crime of the century. It was meant to be part of a private conversation. Deserves a second chance

I think the issue is that the optics are that he disappeared for a bit then reappeared in a cushty SFA role.

Not a reasonable comparison to Martindale, who did something far worse but has been nothing but repentant and rebuilt his entire life from scratch doing every job under the sun at Livi over the last few years.

Sure he`s allowed a second chance, but I`m glad it isn`t at EEP.

I'd forgotten he was given a job by the SFA. Not too long after he was sacked, was it? Says a lot about the people running our game. I can't remember how that ended either. Did he leave of his own accord?

I'm sure everyone has made daft remarks at times but that's a lot of daft remarks and paints him as being a complete idiot.

Obviously he could be a complete reformed character and everyone deserves a second chance but I wouldn't brush that sort of thing under the carpet.

I’m not sure I’d be too chuffed if he was to rock up at East End Park as manager. There are some things that are said that I think just become too hard to recover from. Those quotes above are pretty damning for a guy who was in his 40’s at the time. To be exposed as a racist, a homophobe and an anti/Semite is some going!

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/malky-mackay-texts-leader-people-mackay-issues-grovelling-apology-text-scandal-9686834.html

But I get that you need pathways for redemption for people and he has apologised and attempted to move on. Unfortunately this stuff sticks and I’m Just glad we weren’t the next destination for him to be honest.

When Andy Goram came on board as a goalkeeping coach here not many were particularly bothered. In fact the vast majority were welcome to the club..

The state of some of the posts in this thread. Words like "daft" and "stupid" are ridiculous understatements. The things he messaged were disgusting racist/sexist/homophobic hate and they weren`t ignorant general comments, most were about colleagues of his. I would think it was a disgrace if he was appointed our manager and I`m glad to see many Ross County fans think the same.

It really sounds like we have a snowflake mentality on this site... I’m sure we have said and done things which were not right.
The guy has admitted his guilt.. and now wants to move on as this was years ago... ffs give him a break and hope he does well at County.

I don`t believe because someone says something racist/homophobic/sexist, it really means they are those things. Sometimes people say things as a joke or a wind up, even though it is in awful taste. I doubt he would have worked with black players all his career as a player and manager if he was properly racist. I can`t recall any former players saying he was like this in the changing room.

He was punished and apologised for his actions which was a long time ago now. He has never committed any of these acts since. People have done much worse and got second chances, why shouldn`t he? It`s sad to see that many are totally against him getting another chance.

He`s done his time, and yes he did make significant steps to correct his behaviour, so surely he starts with a cleaner slate

Surely as a society we don`t function without redemption.

It would be different if he was in denial, but he made amends.

I agree his comments are horrible but the fact is we release far worse criminals back into society and give them another chance.........

But there are a few that play for clubs after jail time. Declan Gallacher - a Scottish footballing hero to some after helping us qualify for the euros. Troy Deeney is seen as a role model these days and was prisoned for battering students outside a nightclub with his mate. He clearly looks rehabilitated these days when you see him being interviewed and it`s good to see he`s a changed man after getting a second chance.

Their crimes were worse than Mackay`s but they don`t get the treatment he does from the public.

Without in any way excusing what he did, do folk think Mackay should not be allowed to work in football management or not allowed to work at all?

Would it be OK for him to empty bins or stack shelves in a supermarket, for example? Could he join the police or become a PE teacher? Just putting a hypothetical question out there.
