McManus bid accepted
Dunfermline Athletic have accepted a £50,000 bid for Declan McManus from The New Saints.

The ambitious Welsh side want the 26-year-old to spearhead their Europa League Conference assault.

TNS have tabled a club-record bid that the Pars have accepted.

The 26-year-old is now due to travel south for talks and to finalise his move.

TNS have new financial backing and they are looking to topple Connah Quay’s Nomads from the top spot.

The former Aberdeen and Ross County frontman has been impressed by TNS’s ambitious bid and plans.

Had a feeling this would happen. Wighton is a new signing essentially and Peter Grant loves O’Hara. Most managers like to bring in their own striker, so I half-expected McManus to be the fall-guy.

Decent goal return but I think we can replace him. All the best to him at TNS.

If we are getting money for him then that is not too bad.. been a while since we have regularly received money for players. If he goes I trust the club to replace well

That’s a bargain……..for us.

Runs about a lot but no quality on the ball and doesn’t score enough goals.

Would be sad to see him go, but think we need a different kind of option than what we had last season to progress so hopefully it opens the door to that. Getting a half decent fee with 1 year left on his contract makes a lot of sense and if the deal is right for him down there then it's a no brainer for both sides.

If he does got it means we would need another striker you aren't getting away with only 2 strikers.

Lewis McCann so far has not done anything to suggest he could be challenging for a first team game as a striker.

Decent bit business then really if goes thru and allows PG to bring in another striker which maybe offer something different.

Money talks and just part being a footballer, he been away from family before when at clubs since he has had kids so cant see this being much different.

if he does go they might go with the 3 strikers and bring in an out and out number 10 which we dont have, all depends on what system Grant intends to go with.

Will be good if it goes through. Hopefully a sell on clause added as he is still only 26 and will have great exposure in the European conference league.

Good luck to him. Cannae gripe about performances as he was left as a sole striker running ragged chasing shadows half the season mostly due to the formation and style we were playing .

Third choice striker, with 11 months left on his contract and we get to free up his wage plus £50k. Makes sense. Good luck to him.

Looking at the ground and the crowd size in the Welsh league. I will be surprised if the story is true. The only reason that he would sign (apart from the money) is to get the chance to play in Europe.

Should have stopped at "apart from the money", when will people realise that in football (especially Scottish football) that money is the number #1 thing that motivates club movements / transfers. It's an incredibly short career and players will do whatever they need to for the most lucrative contract.

Also, this report is true as McManus wasn't at preseason training today.

I like McManus but I think this might be best for all parties. Was becoming apparent in the last few months of the season he was a square peg in a round hole and I would suspect he will be behind O'Hara and Wighton for next season and then it is a case if we play him on the wing or behind the strikers which I don't think is ideal for him or the balance of the team.
He started last season pretty decent but faded badly although that applied to most of the team to be fair.
Can never fault his effort and commitment but it might be a good move for us if this comes off.

Awight Pat!

It's just repeating the Daily Record story, it makes that clear in the opening paragraphs...

Dunfermline have reportedly accepted a £50,000 offer for forward Declan McManus from The New Saints.

Scottish paper Daily Record say that the Scottish Championship side have accepted a potential league record bid from the Cymru Premier runners-up.

I'm sorry to see Declan move. I was surprised that he signed for TNS, they are about the size of Cowden and have a very small crowd probably the size of Cowden. Good luck Declan if you play well you might get to play for Newport.

He did well for us first time round and it suited him playing a team with Nicky Clark where he was able to do a lot of the graft and contribute well to the team, even though he didn`t score that many goals. I liked him as a player and was pleased when he came back.

Second time round was more disappointing. I expected him to come back and be the hard working, unglamourous player as before but we just didn`t really find a way of playing him that worked. Quite often he was the complete opposite of what I expected, in that he`d be totally invisible in a game, but then score out of nothing.

I think he can still be an effective player when the team set-up suits him but I wouldn`t have had any confidence that we`d be better this season coming at finding a way of playing him. Quite content for him to move on if we`re getting a transfer fee for him.

I`d love to hear the rationale of those who don`t think this represents a good deal for the Pars. All you see are a few `don`t likes` but no reasoning apart from Sliema Par who compares it with Michael Moffat leaving - but wasn`t he out of contract and attracted no fee?

I think his work rate and effort were second to none, he just didn’t score enough goals.

A new manager who maybe doesn’t fancy him - maybe helped his decision.

60k for a player wi the 1 year left, a chance to reinvest or to offset against the pandemic

Think the deal is good for both parties.

This is exactly the type of business model we will be following from now on. The fee covers I would say most of wages we have paid him since coming here. This is more than what we get from most player's normally they leave end of contract on a free with zero return on investment.

Good luck to Declan and good business strategy we are carving out for ourselves. That's fee's for 2 players in 12 month's. Been a long time since we achieved that.

I like DcM,

he was always a thorn in the oppositions sides and had a good turn of pace. Only downside of his game was netting as often as he could have hence my misgivings when he was made CF last season. I always regarded him as an excellent inside left or right but not a CF.

On the like/dislike front I suppose the change of management provided an opportunity for pastures new; I am not surprised in the slightest that he elected to go elsewhere and am glad he has gone to Wales and has had a good start down there. Wishing him all the flipping best and hope he scores a barrowload.

I liked him first time around. However the older he gets (and let's face it, slower) the more it annoyed me when he persistently fouled and pushed opponents. No matter where we were in the game he would nip and push drawing attention to himself and breaking up any momentum we had by giving away stupid fouls. Arms out to the side and moaning his pus aff at the referee.

I think he always runs with his arms and elbows out. I think you are being unfair to him; I did not see a loss of pace, far from it - otherwise he would not have been put in a CF position. His running style means it is difficult to get near him to tackle therefore defenders go in harder and with less control resulting in a tussle. I have come against many players who run in that fashion and it is tough getting near them to tackle directly, often you have to guide them away or face giving away a foul He is by no means a dirty player, and I am also not surprised that he did complain to the ref about the rough treatment that was meted out to him.
