From reading the article in the courier with Peter grant it appears we will be giving the young players that are in and around the first team squad more of a chance so can’t see too many new signings coming in

Also said the squad looks unbalanced. So we will bring in a few. The way I read that comment in his statement was if they are good enough and prove themselves in training age doesn't Come into it. He has no qualms about throwing in a 16-17 year old. As he did at Alloa a few times

We`ve just lost 12 players, so I would expect several players coming in.

For me we need at least 10 signings - before anyone says your off your head - I am aware.

We need at least

2 Goalkeepers - as we only have
2 centre halves - full back is covered
5 midfielders - We need winger cover x 2 and 3 midfielders as we only really have Wilson with experience
1 striker - We will be shipping 1 of the below out alternatively another option

This is based on the below

OFW

COMRIE, MACDONALD
WATSON
GASPUITIS
EDWARDS, FENTON

THOMAS
WILSON, TODD, ALLAN
DOW

OHARA, WIGHTON
MCMANUS, MCANN

If he can get something, anything out of McCann and Todd then I really will be impressed by Grant.

Interested to see how McCann reacts to new management.

A couple of seasons ago he looked the part - played well in the opening 2-2 draw with Dundee. Then he’s just disappeared, last season he was a passenger. Let’s see if PG can develop him as a player he certainly has the talent.

Maybe do well to recall Lewis’ brother Ali who plays so well for St Johnstone. I’m not making an automatic parallel just because they’re brothers, but Ali was out on loan for a spell at Stranraer before really establishing himself in the Saints first team as well as the starting XI for N Ireland. What I mean, is that sometimes all it takes with younger players is patience and time. I hope Lewis gets further chances to develop, and who knows, maybe we’ll be rewarded by a player as good as his brother.

McCann needs to go out on a season long loan and get game time and prove…..or not that he has what it takes.

I did not see Lewis Martin or Whittaker on obiwanyouknowme list…

We need a goalie or two for sure
A right back
A CH
Two CM
One winger.

And if LM goes out on loan 1 striker.

So 8 in for me……

Ah just seen the Whittaker has retired comment….surprised at that , thought he would have played one more season.

So 9 in for me and if LM can’t get fit, then 10. I really hope he can as he can play all across the back four…

Yeah never included Whittaker as he has confined he’s retiring.

Martin is the only player who the club has not commented on.

Surprised you think we need a RB considering we have 2 and both have 2 year deals.

Add to that 1 CB when we only have 2 at the club, 3 if you include Martin - Gaspuitis relatively unproven and Martin who hasn’t kicked a ball for a year. Defo need more than 1 IMO a red card or injury and we are up the creek.

stolen from pieandbovril, Stephen McGinn..... as for other rumours, no leaks? cant find the quality required yet?

right now you need 7 signings for the first team and a youth keeper as a no3.
a keeper, a centre half, 3 central midfielders, a wide player....and either Martin or similar. Paul Allan is the one youngster who i think will impress Grant which if he does you could drop the 3 to 2 central midfielders and look at some sort of versatile option.

anyone that leaves will need replaced, other question will be will they look at adding a couple of youngsters or just run a first team only.

McGinn?

"Who do you want??"

already thrown Mihkel Ainsalu`s name out there on another thread hoping the club have a look lol. there are plenty of overseas players id have a look at but its probably doubtful they would get in the country, the pool of available players up here is pretty horrible but hopefully the club will find a gem or two from somewhere. maybe Kane O`Connor, young centre half that was at Hibs and just released by Brentford.

Vigurs would command too high a wage for us and McGinn isn’t as good as people are making out (I also believe he is on the verge of signing for Morton)

I think we’ll be looking outside the box for signings, with a few Gaspuitis-like additions. And I’m all for it. Better than the usual merry-go-round.

People suggested Kiltie but he rejected Killie because he wanted higher wage so we have no chance with him.

We last played St Mirren in 2019, where McGinn was absolutely dreadful, including him getting absolutely schooled for one of our goals. He would go on to barely play that season, or this.

The fact that he played OK against us a couple of times in 2017/18 should have absolutely no relevance to how good a signing he'd be in 2021. He looked absolutely finished the season before last. The fact he's barely played would suggest that hasn't improved.

Think your missing the point here. The first signing of a new manager will show the direction we are heading and potentially help get fans excited with season tickets going on sale.

The delay in lack of signings may be down to the fact that there may be a potential windfall if Hibs sell Nisbet?

Sign players now then have £s to sign better later in the window, just a thought.

No chance, if we do get a windfall then the squad might get a boost but no way they are hanging on for that.
Some nonsense on this thread trying to justify the delay. The only reason there is a lack of signings is new management, undoubtedly Crawford would have had targets that are not now on Grants radar. We`ve seen in the past if you can get a player to put pen to paper then the sooner the better before his eyes are turned elsewhere.
Thursday has been the most productive day in the past ( I`m guessing it`s because they can get the media side done that day ?) , first signing tomorrow.........maybe :-)

I think we will be offering at least the going rate. I don`t think we have been offering any players a gig that then go elsewhere as that would be in the papers. For whatever reason there hasn`t been a whole lot of movement as yet in the Championship and outside of the top league and Killie, who we cannot compete with in salary, I haven`t seen any players moving that I would like at the Pars. We have got a decent squad and we are obviously looking at decent football players for the new system that is being talked about. Wouldn`t want to see any players arrive for the sake of signing a player and I look forward to seeing some of the young boys get a chance.

I think one of the problems with the transfer market is due to the league Cup starting so early the gap between one season ending and the new season starting.

Where as in the past the season ended and it would be maybe 7/8 weeks before pre season started so signing players wasn't such a big deal.

I've always thought when pre season starts you want at least 3 or 4 new players so they are integrated into the team and are on board with any new systems.

LEGEND85 last sentence sums up the situation neatly.

The new season is almost upon us.

Another week has gone by and no new signing to prompt us to buy a season ticket.

I am not going to pretend I wanted Peter Grant but, like so many ,I will give him to Christmas to prove us wrong.

We have lost experienced CB Euan Murray and may lose experienced striker Declan McManus.

The rumours persist about Fraser Murray but that is all.We have a threadbare squad and Greg Shields` remark that he doesn`t just want an experienced player because he has won the Championship worries me.I see Inverness are said to be moving for just that sort of player from Ross County. Why aren`t we?

We have made an outstanding start in the League Cup under AJ and Stevie as they brought in players early.Peter wil be compared with that.

As for Shields` remark he wanted to put his boots on.At this rate he may have to!

1st day pre season and cause we dont have any new players in, must mean the season is a write off then by your panic state!!

who is actually gonna buy a season ticket on the back of signing a certain player......

threadbare squad.... just the 16 or 17 signed players at the moment.

ICT able to look at Ross County players based on they wont have to move from the area, pretty simple aint it !! Who says we are not looking at these players anyway!!

Much rather wait to get the best players in for the team and club than just have say a squad of 24 all signed up for 1st day of pre season just to please some folk on here.

If you look at the dates of AJ and Stevie Crawford`s signings over the last couple of seasons you will see the majority weren`t completed by this date either. I`d rather we signed quality rather than quantity. Peter Grant has only been in the job a fortnight, it will have taken time to work out budgets, decide who he wants to keep and then approach any targets. Plenty time yet.

I’m sure PG will sleep better tonight though knowing he has until Christmas to sort everything out and produce a league winning side as most of the best managers around have all proven it only takes 6 months.

Hendry is the type of player that fits what Grants style of play but I doubt he would come to us Prem for him with Motherwell is a rumour

Media speculate that PG will move for Sheffield Wednesday defender Isaac Rice aged 20.

Getting Rice would certainly Curry favour.

I’m not sure why folk are surprised we haven’t signed anyone.

I’m pretty sure Grant didn’t expect to be managing at a full time level before he joined us and he hasn’t been involved in signing a full time player for over 10 years….he was more likely expecting to be a coach somewhere (Celtic…)

Hopefully he hits the ground running….are we behind our rivals? Probably but some decent players don’t become available until closer to the season starting.

Plus if Nesbit goes for good money we might be able to get better players in for key positions than if we signed a few just now.

It’s all a big gamble I guess…

Just sitting here drenched in my own negativity!

I just want to say first of all I'm not wetting the bed as some folk would say when it comes to a subject like this.

So my view is that I find it strange we haven't signed anyone traditionally the last 3 or 4 season we would have at least 1 or 2 in the door.

Peter Grant has spoken about winning the league and as it stands we don't have a squad anywhere near capable of winning a league.

It is obvious that we will make signings we only have one goalie at the moment.

Although other clubs have made signings nobody has signed someone where I've thought why didn't we sign him.

It is frustrating but I'm sure that signing logo will appear on twitter soon

Sorry you are needing to change your nappy if your bed isn`t wet.

PG has been in the door a week. He will want to see what he has to work with first of all. He will be in meetings regards budgets/way forward/links to possible German connections/loans etc.

Would be a bit of a strange one going for him. We signed a few untried English players a few years ago and I can`t recall any of them being a success. Could always unearth a gem, mind you.

Fully expect someone to be announced soon as there was what looked like a footballer look at the digs near me where Ross McArthur has been seen coming and going also for the past week. This young lad was also speaking to Ross also. Don't know who the boy is but he was there with his partner and young child and what looked like an agent driving a white 70 plate tesla

That strategy got Hartley his jotters fairly quick at Falkirk.

There is however the like of Iacovitti who was stuck in Forest`s U23 set up whilst making regular appearances for Scotland U21`s, he seems to be a regular at Ross County.

Like every level, there's gems and dung. Callum Morris done very well by us, Gabby McGill less so...

My mates a Wednesday fan and says he's highly rated.
