Edit to add the BBC should have pulled coverage much earlier than they did, shocking.

Yes they probably didn’t have control of pitch cameras but could have easily switched back to the studio

I'd cut the director - or whoever is in charge - a bit of slack. Would have been totally shocked at what happened and no idea what to do for the best.

They probably wanted to stay and get good news but when things started looking bad they decided to pull the coverage.

The shot where you saw the doctors pumping his chest was really distressing but that will be from the host broadcaster - and I'm pretty sure they caught it by accident too.

On the broadcasting, sorry they have a duty with this kind of scenario, can accept the accidental images given the shock but it was live for what must’ve been 15mins and it even flicked over to see his wife being consoled by Kjaer and Schmeichal.

It’s unacceptable and they should get hammered for it.

Sven-Goran Eriksson is the former England manager while the unfortunate Danish captain is Christian Eriksen. Maybe the OP could edit the title.

Truly horrendous watch. Still feel numb tbh even tho he's now recovering, so how on earth those players managed to finish the game, I don't know. Was gutted for them losing.

As for the TV coverage, if you listen to the team doctor's report of what happened, he says "it changed quickly" wtte & I don't actually believe they showed the shocking of him or CPR on purpose, for sensationalism.

They were however utterly disgraceful for showing his distraught wife on the pitch. Absolutely no need.

Kjaer and Kasper are absolute heroes tonight for their roles in helping Eriksen initially, then comforting team mates & Mrs Eriksen.

Get well Christian - always enjoyed watching him play for Spurs. Hope he recovers quickly 🤞🏼💕

It happened as i was leaving for work thankfully.
This has happened too many times now and footballers especially at Tottenham and Inter get thorough health screening.
The medical team done exceptional and fulfilled their role in truly saving a young man's life.

What I would like now to happen is UEFA, FIFA do further investigation into this as it now seems to be happening much more.
Is it the change in the game....amount of games players now needing to play (one of the arguments against new champions league set up) with players not getting the rest they really deserve.

Could more be done ... Eg health monitors on players with 4th official and team/club doctors monitoring. So a faster response to such incidents. Normally a referee will play one or two minutes on while a player is down. That one to two minutes is vital.

Last of all. I truly hope Christian and his family fully recover from this. I am glad I had to go to work as yes, I would have stared blankly in shock and disbelief but eagerly awaiting news.

How is East End for Defribs? Are they stationed around the ground?

I genuinely wasn't trying to be smart, mate. I was out yesterday afternoon and hadn't seen or heard anything about the game. When I saw your thread at the top of the board with lots of replies, I thought you must have misspelled Sven-Goran's name. I did wonder what he was doing at the game, but in that moment of confusion, I thought he must be involved with one of the teams. Had you put in Eriksen's first name, I'm sure that confusion wouldn't have arisen. In any case, I wasn't having a pop at you - apologies if it came across that way.

BPP - Thank you for the judgemental and sanctimonious comment. ☹

Cheers, TOWK. I`m glad some folk have a bit of sympathy for an easily confused senior poster. 🙂

Back on topic. It wouldn`t surprise me if Eriksen decides to hang up his boots after what appears to have been a very close brush with death. Football will be the poorer if he does retire, but at 29, he doesn`t want to be taking any unnecessary risks with his health, not only for his own sake, but for that of his family and friends.

I remember the Cameroon international, Marc-Vivien Foé, leaving his life on the pitch. None of us want to see a tragic repeat.

If it was some sort of a cardiac incident then I`d suspect he won`t be allowed to play again regardless of his own wishes. Have read something that Italian law would prohibit him from playing for Inter if he has been diagnosed with a heart condition. I think though it he will be at ease with that considering the position he was in less than 24 hours ago.

I heard a cardiologist on the radio last night say that some sports people were more susceptible to cardiac arrest than others because of a pre-existing condition that affected about 1 in 50,000 footballers. He said Tottenham tested their players for this condition annually whilst Eriksen was there and that Inter Milan also tested him for it before he signed for them.

Remember Nwanko Kanu being diagnosed with a "hole in the heart" condition and Inter medics telling him he was finished with football for his own safety. I can't remember exactly what happened immediately after that, but he ended up carving out a fine career at Arsenal, thereafter.

Things like this are why we need to get professional medics on duty at East End.
The time they take to get to players is an eternity.
If this happened at East End the players chances of survival would be significantly reduced.

Just read on The Athletic, that the Danish doc, confirmed that it was a cardiac arrest and he was gone, but they got him back after just one use of the onfield defibrillator, which he said was unusual.

These guys are true heroes, even although they won't say it.

Things like this are why we need to get professional medics on duty at East End.
The time they take to get to players is an eternity.
If this happened at East End the players chances of survival would be significantly reduced.

Tbf the physio and club doctor would get to the player incredibly quickly, it's the stretcher carriers who take an age, when Joe Thompson, done his acl they took about 5 minutes.

To be fair to the stretcher carriers , if they were there within a minute they would have to stand around the injured player whilst Dr's do all thier checks before moving the player.

Also there are 4 stretcher carriers all of whom have been told to walk to injured players as there is less chance of anyone falling and hurting themselves

Various medics are of the opinion that Eriksen has played his last game. He certainly wouldn't be allowed to play in the UK again and quite right, too. His health considerations must come first.

How does that work if he wants to go into management GG?

I would imagine that would be more stressful than playing

Commentators just said that Daley Blind has played with a defibrillator fitted this season and there was a German player a few years ago that did likewise. Don`t know how anybody apart from doctors who examined him would be in a position to make a judgement. Hopefully makes a good recovery whether he plays again or not.109 caps at age 29 so has had a very good career already.

The report I read specifically relates to playing:-

It may not have been stress related. I could see him making a decent living as a TV pundit. Far less stressful. 🙂

The stretcher-Bearers are not going to be providing emergency treatment... Even if they were they would be of no use if they were injured themselves.

The first rule of incident response is not to put yourself at risk for that reason and so as not to escalate a problem.

My wife who took seriously ill 5 years ago has a pacemaker combined with a defibrillator in her chest. It has given her a new lease of life.

On the stretcher bearer topic, I had a serious fracture that finished my football career and believe me I wanted the stretcher bearers nowhere near me until I was comfortable including gas and air. If they had placed me on a stretcher without the medics protecting the fractures it could have resulted in a much more serious condition.

On the subject of Erikson, I am so happy he is making it through this. When I saw his eyes on the TV I thought he was gone. The medics performed exceptionally well in saving his life. A medal should be given to them when it comes to the Final.
