 Wales v Turkey

Wales take the lead with a terrific assist from Bale, with Ramsey finishing the chance. A couple of world class players really make a lot of difference going forward.

Its a good end to end game. Bale didnt look too clever when Wales had 3 on 2 and he chose not to pass and then lost the ball.

Could have had a couple more too.

Not the two best sides in the tournament but its been very watchable.

Inexplicable pen from a player as experienced and gifted as Bale.

Young Daniel James has went way up in my estimation, I thought he was a bit of a flash player with Man Utd. 2 games in blistering heat and he's run himself into the ground.
MoM for me today

East End Park is a symbol of all that is DAFC.

Delighted for Wales, cant help but be jealous.

Great mentality they have, they go out to win. We try not to lose.

James was good but decision making in the final third is what lets him down. Should have squared one along the deck on the counter near the end but held onto it for too long and then fired it over the attackers head. Still, he did put in a power of running and had the full-back on toast. Even though Bale got the official man of the match it was Ramsey for me.

Funny how we've all watched the same game and come away with slightly different opinions! I thought Bale ran the show for Wales and was pulling the strings and deserved man of the match. Ramsey was very decent and worked hard but he missed a big chance and a half chance and actually gave the ball away a few times when there were easy passes on. Bale was creating everything but did have the bad miss at the penalty.

And some of the pundits in the media thought Turkey were decent bet as outsiders for the tournament..... wow !!

I bow to anyone elses opinions as I did admittedly tune out to watch a couple of Royal Ascot races :) Just called it on what I saw

I did see all of last night`s match when Pogba was given MOTM-had a decent game but Kante was outstanding again and I thought Varane had a great game.

I`ll admit I thought Turkey could be a dark horse given their recent results but got that one dramatically wrong!

Has a dark horse ever won a competition, I don't think they ever have.

I would say Greece and Denmark would be outsiders. A dark horse is maybe a team like Belgium just now where they have good players but are waiting on them to prove they can do it when the pressure is on.
Anyone know why the term is called dark horse?

Fair point but I'd say that term becomes massively subjective if its a team somewhere between a favourite and an outsider. You could argue Portugal were dark horses when they won it 2016 as they weren't outsiders and weren't favourites either. 7th in the betting pre kick off.

To me a dark horse contender is, if we are talking football, a team that you`d be surprised if they won it but not shocked.
So in this tournament there is probably six teams that I wouldn`t be surprised or shocked if they won it. Must be at least twelve nations that it would be a major upset if they ended up champions and the rest would be in the dark horse category. So somebody like the Netherlands. I`d be surprised if they won the whole thing but I couldn`t reasonably discount them.

We all hate poverty, war, and injustice.
Unlike the rest of you squares.

I don`t think you can class the best team in the world for the last two years as a "dark horse"

A dark horse is a previously less known person or thing that emerges to prominence in a situation, especially in a competition involving multiple rivals, or a contestant that on paper should be unlikely to succeed but yet still might.

What does dark horse mean in slang?

The saying dark horse usually means an unexpected winner. ... The idiom comes from horse racing, not surprisingly. A dark horse was one that gamblers didn't know much about and therefore weren't sure how to bet on. In the 1830's, the phrase spread to include people who were unknown before suddenly rising to prominence.
