 Isaac Rice to Dunfermline?
Topic Originator: davidpars1885

Dunfermline Athletic are set to secure the signature of Sheffield Wednesday defender Isaac Rice (Sun).

The 20-year-old is highly-rated and captained the Sheffield Wednesday development squad to a successful youth league season. But he is now out-of-contract as the Hillsborough club prepare for life in League One, following their relegation from the English Championship

Could be a good squad player. Think the big Lithuanian will replace Murray and the other 3 will be as you were for next season.

Not much about him online. Played a few games, seems to be rated but then if he's that much of a prospect, why let him go?

They are in financial difficulty and have been paying their wages late recently. Probably not in a position to offer a contract. They are currently under a transfer embargo too.

Pars media officer must lose it every time they see a signing leaked on here. Typical Fifers who ken a boy who kens a boy who used to drive the team bus for the Pars in the early 2000s and still keeps in touch with Davey who works in the office.

I think someone has got the wrong end of the stick here. I was saying to a guy in the pub that I seen one sack of rice being delivered to the kitchen at East End Park. I suspect my 1 Sack Rice comment has lead to Chinese whispers and a spot of confusion

Interview in the Courier with Peter Grant. He says Rice is training with us, has impressed so far but it`s up to the player whether he gets a deal.

I was quite disappointed when we appointed PG, but the way he talks in this interview about wanting guys who want to play for Dunfermline is very refreshing and I really can buy into that.

Great interview, I have to agree with you TTC,when he was appointed I wasn't to impressed. But the way he comes across is great, if you don't want to be here, you won't be here.

Excited for new season

Oaft:-

Quote… And the Pars boss candidly suggested that doubts were put in his mind regarding McManus’ future in Fife when the players’ agent informed him of the interest from Wales.

“When I came in there was talk that Declan’s agent had been on the phone telling us about interest in him,” Grant continued. “That put some doubt in my mind right away.

“I want people who are committed and — while I am absolutely not saying that Declan wasn’t committed — when I get agents on the phone, that sets alarm bells off for me.”

Cheers GJS, I like where he states "you could be the best player but if you don't fit into the team, you won't be here"

Also on the subject of getting a fee for McManus

“I don’t think the fee makes any difference. I came to an agreement with the chairman and I know what I’m offering for players. The fee is by the by, I know where we are within the parameters of the football club and I’m one of these guys who’s not a negotiator. I’m probably old school in that respect. I’ll tell them what we can afford and if the player can’t come for that then, fine, we’ll move on.

One thing for sure is PG`s interviews are going to be like reading a chapter in a novel not just a few small paragraphs that can be read in 30 seconds !!

On what he says about Rice, its very similar to what Crawford said as well, emphasis on how fitted in with the group and being the rite "type".

The Mcmanus situation is similar to what went on with Turner i would imagine, but clearly the club, player nor manager at time couldnt come out and say what really was going on, just doesnt work like that am afraid.

Some good reading so far.

Any news on Ryan Dow?

Ooft... Tell ye what I wasn`t impressed and accused the club of no ambition.

Well, This appointment has me impressed. He seems to be open, clear cut management wanting one thing total commitment from players and Even the way he talks he has a clear vision for our squad.
The way he is has just turned right around people`s opinions you can see why Ross and the board were smitten.

If he's sticking to his 'this is the offer, no negotiations' then fair play.

Don’t necessarily agree with that approach, negotiations over salary are pretty standard and there should always be a little bit of give to get who you want if it’s the right person.

If a player`s having to undergo a trial to get a contract I wouldn`t have thought he`d be in that strong a negotiating position.

Imagine it's like anything you're "buying". You might think it's for you but you won't be happy with the quoted price until you have a proper look. Perhaps Grant liked what he saw but felt the wages were higher than the player was worth? Or maybe the player decided it wasn't good value if he was having to move up here?

I would imagine the salary offered at Dunfermline will be far lower than at Sheffield Wednesday however he would probably be staying in the flats behind east end for free.

He would need to see us as a stepping stone onto a hibs or Aberdeen then you get a move down south.

Or he could be offered silly money at a Forest Green Rovers and we cannae compete
