 England V Scotland
Topic Originator: General Zod

I had a dream a week or so ago that we won 2-1 with someone that might have been Ryan Fraser scoring the winner. That being said a 4-0 defeat is quite likely. Come on, Scotland, we have nothing to fear here. Don’t let sky tv brainwash you into thinking these guys are better than they are.

Between the pars and Scotland we must surely be due a big big result and not have that horrible feeling of despair at the end of the game.

Sadly though I think it will be the usual horrible feeling and in 25 years time I'll be watching that time Harry Kane scored against Scotland

We will have an outside chance if that useless manager picks a team with some pace in it , unlike his defensive pedestrian starting 11 against the Czechs.

Adams, Forrest, Gilmour and probably Paterson all have to start.....and hopefully Tierney makes it....

I`m just a bit fed up Dykes, and waiting for a tap in every 5 games doesn`t do it for me. We don`t need the height as we don`t play the long ball and even when we do there`s no one within a mile of him. I hope we go for two with pace who can also support the midfield and vice versa

It is looking like an early trip home.

I don't understand why we have had a day less to recover from the last game. Strange fixtures.

Dykes and O’Donnell done ok for us in the past when our options were limited. However we have better now and you can’t be sentimental at this level of football. Dykes and the style we play with him included should be a plan B or even C. Nothing against the lads but they’re just not very good.

Realistically we will lose by 2 or 3 but I said that before we just about beat them in the eventual 2-2 draw.
If we freeze we have no chance let’s be clear but football can throw up some crazy results.
Lots of our team play in England which will give them extra impetus to go that extra mile and should the game be level midway through the second half, there is a real chance for us to sneak a win.
I’m keeping my feet firmly on the ground on this one though.

Dykes plays a key role for us in that he is a physical presence to give their center backs something to think about. I don’t think Clarke plays him for goals but to open up spaces for other players.

Fixtures in international tournaments always favour the seeded nations, Ipswich. For this one, the top seeds are even playing most of their games at home. If England top their group they only need to play one game away from Wembley to win the competition.

There might even have been one where they played all their games there.... 🤔

If Tierney is back and O Donnell and Dykes are punted then I`ll be able to accept most results.

Nisbet is better than Dykes at the job Dykes is supposed to do, for instance. I keep hearing Dykes is a hold up man...I haven`t seen it happen.

Anyway, I hope we win but if we are guna lose I hope its done early. Cant take the heart ache of last minute.

O`Donnell gets a lot of flak but he`s used the ball as well as anyone and been involved in our two chances. Gilmour and Tierney are composed players and have made a big difference.

England look a level below France, Italy or Holland and Portugal. On the first half showing they`ve not shown they are in any way better than us. The game is still there for Scotland.

We maybe weren`t quite good enough to win but we were certainly too good to lose. Thanks to all the Tartan Army who went down to London and gave us a psychological edge on the night.

Hanley gave a Jim Holton type display and must have knocked about £20 million off Harry Kane`s transfer fee. Tierney is a player who can become a top European Maldini type; he is always in command and knows how to organise the defence alongside him. And a word for the much maligned Marshall: he looked solid and gave the defence confidence to push out and make challenges.

Now all we have to do is actually score a goal.

England were a bit sluggish and we rode our luck but a good point, I think people are a wee bit too excited though. We could have won that by a couple of goals but we could easily lost by 3 or 4. Anybody that honestly thinks we`ll beat Croatia is off their rocker(and that`s coming from somebody who is nutter than a bag of nuts). I`ve also no idea how that Dykes bloak gets a game, it defies logic for me, Nesbit is miles better than him and should be starting.

I have to give the manager a pat on the back for starting the young lad though, that was a courageous decision to make and he shone like a 837 watt bulb.

It has to be pointed out though that I`m a born pessimist and will be overjoyed to be proved wrong on Tuesday, but I really can`t see any chance of a win. We might scrape a point but we won`t be progressing through to the next stage.

Enjoy your night though peeps, don`t let a pragmatist like me get in front of your Covid covered pints😉.

I don`t want that to be Scotland`s cup final.

We need to change that small-scale mentality about playing the English, and play a bit more like Wales do.

Okay, we achieved a draw today. But there`s still a lot of work to do to qualify for the next round because of our failure against the Czechs.

Turkey was a far more frightening prospect than the Czechs, but the Welsh showed no fear and they prevailed.

We need to do the same, and sweep away the Croats on Tuesday.

Would a win even be enough to qualify? Wouldn`t we need to need not only win, but win by a substantial margin? We won`t know what`s needed until everybody has played twice.

Yes, we could easily have lost it by three or four had there been three or four goals. Which there wasn't. Post aside we created the better balance of chances.

Good team effort tonight, and I was especially pleased at how well we played at the back (keeper included). This kept us in the game, and gave our attacking players the chance to get involved where they were able to contribute well also. I don`t claim any great knowledge of the Scotland team as all I normally see of internationals is highlights and I watch very little football played outside Scotland. But, having had a stinker on Monday Stephen O`Donnell was very good tonight, and in the middleo f defence where many people have said it`s been a bit grim, Scotland were impressive. Kane went off having hardly had a kick of the ball, which was beautiful to see.

I thought it was a good game too, played at an incredible pace and high intensity throughout.

We beat Croatia two nil, the Czechs beat England and then we qualify in second place.

Can anyone mind if Kane has ever been subbed because he never looked like scoring?

Is Harry Kane the most overrated player since Tandem Sterling?

Good grief, birdbrain strikes again.
I bet the odds on a draw between the Czechs and Engerlund are the lowest ever for a draw.

Perhaps England were poor because we played well, got our tactics spot on and nullified them???

Bit like when a ‘diddy’ team does the business and gets points off one of the old firm… yet everyone puts it down to rangers or Celtic not turning up

Parrot, if England draw against the Czechs then the Czechs win the group and England`s next game won`t be at Wembley. Granted it will be on paper against lesser opponents than if they were to win the group but I reckon they`d rather do without the travelling. Finish second and they play in Copenhagen next and then St Petersburg in the quarter final if they get that far.

The winner of of our group face the runner up of the France, Germany, Portugal, Hungary group.
The runner up of our group face the runner up of Spain, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia group. We won't know the final positions of this group until after our last games.
I would say on paper coming second gives potentially easier draw. However I don't underestimate the advantage playing at home might bring.

If Scotland manage to get a result and claim 3rd we would face the winner of Spain, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia group or winner of groups B or C who look likely to be Belguim and Netherlands.

Southgate wanted to make sure he made it on their bus and we didn't accidentally take him home in a back pocket.....
