Going to be a close game i think, certainly need to tighten up at the back, not sure what system Grant will opt for tonight.

Poor at the back again, clearing the ball to nobody about 5 times in a row will eventually get you in trouble.

Have to agree with others , defensively we look to be a bit nervous and weak giving the ball away too easily and often just booting it anywhere , hence we lost the goal ! Up front we haven`t been a threat yet , need to change a few things at half time , A lot of nice passing at times but not much good when it is in our own half

looked good when passing the ball around, unfortunately ball hasn't really stuck when gone up to Todorov, can tell the difference in level though between the teams on balance of play.

like Ohara dropping in and linking play at times, defensive yes things to work on but it will come in time.

fonners looks more comfortable with ball at his feet than Mehmet does so far.

Thomas doing well again in the middle trying to get the ball moving but obviously not a long term solution in middle of the park

St-Mirren look strong but is that not near enough there starting 11?

I think considering our lack of options especially in Midfield we are doing ok.

Reinforcement are badly needed

Midfield non existent .
Thomas playing too deep and Todorov having to drop back.
Agree with some above. St Mirren look strong.Dunne and power strolling it first half.
Although nervy ,I do like how we are at least trying to find passes.
Badly need a few new recruits though.

We badly need a few midfielders to give us options. I`m surprised Gasputis isn`t starting. I thought he would have been a better option than Comrie, who`d be better suited at right back. Sadly we don`t have a lot on the bench at the moment to change the game. Fingers crossed that will chance by Saturday.

Credit where it’s due, St Mirren look a class above us tonight, they are pressing really well and we can’t cope with it. I don’t think St Mirren have come out of first gear as well.

Our midfield clearly needs sorted out as i evident tonight.

yeh not been great but still only 1 down and Fonners not been making save after save, defended 2nd half a bit better.

Certainly a large gap in quality between where the 2 sides are rite now but just the 1 goal in it with 5 mins to go

We`ll evidently be " playing it out from the back" this season. This will no doubt please the purists. How this works against mediocre championship opposition remains to be seen but, against a decent St Mirren team, it has manifested itself in playing 3 or 4 sideways or backwards passes deep in out own half, getting nowhere and conceding possession quickly.

When we have got forward we haven`t looked too bad.

You can’t play from the back if you don’t have a competent midfield to come and collect the ball, that’s why the ball ends up being hoofed back to St Mirren. With no disrespect Allan and Pybus in midfield will not cut it.

That being said, we bring in the right players for that position then I think we have a really decent side this year that’s going to be capable of scoring a lot of goals.

I’m not convinced using wing backs work long term, don’t think the quality is there, I’d rather get Thomas on the wing again.

Only real positive was the fitness levels will be improved.
St Mirren strolled it.
No standouts but likewise no one who was terrible.
Reality was Pybus/Allen and Thomas were overrun and collectively not a good combination. No surprise with that.
Very hard to judge Todorov or Graham tonight.
I`m sure Pars207 will be along to tell us all how we SHOULD have seen it 🙂

Appreciate we are still a makeshift team but the inability to retain possession is a concern. Midfield needs bolstered in the coming weeks without question.
Saints deserved their win without really breaking sweat and we huffed and puffed.

I think we need to remind ourselves tonight we played a good St Mirren team , who were stronger all over the park , so I will take 1-0
It was evident PG certainly needs to get players in sooner rather than later so we are ready to go when we play our first league game ! some nice passing but a lot of passes going astray and almost caught out out near the end when Edwards didn`t get enough on the ball , Just as well OFW came off his line to clear the danger , overall pretty under par performance ! but early days

Not a good performance against a much better team tonight.
It’s clear that we need to bring players in to strengthen the team and don’t play Thomas ever in CM midfield ever again……
There is a massive problem in midfield areas that need sorted but time is running out so hope it’s sorted.

If the players we are tracking are not signing then move on to others, we are now playing competitive games and nothing like ready for the opening league encounter

The young boys have had their opportunity and there are no standouts so time to be decisive and start to build the team as we are a long way short at the present time

PG will be allowed some slack but needs to stop talking and start acting

I'm surprised how many folk are saying we didn't play well tonight.

My opinion is that we done as well as we could with the limited options.

What business we can do in the transfer market now is going to be key. Sign a couple of real box to box midfielder, Creative spark like a kai Kennedy and maybe a centre half.

Playing against a very good St Mirren team that all over the park have better players, and are much stronger than when we played them 2 years back. Definitely some struggles for us going forward and a little shakey at the back but with a few signings we'll be absolutely fine in the championship. Move onto the next two games in the group now...

We need at least 4-5 players that are experienced in this league and above tbh even to think about promotion.
We were well outclassed all over the park tonight and it’s obvious our whole midfield need strengthened.

OFW was excellent tonight, their goal was well taken. I also thought that we should have had a penalty in stoppage time. Overall we struggled against a very good team. Hopefully we will bring in a bit of quality and be able to have more players on the bench.

yes we need signings but we could have signed all these players folk want (even though they might not exist) and still put in that performance tonight against a far better opponent.

StMirren deserved to win, nothing really stuck up front for us or when it did they picked the wrong pass, didnt get the break etc. win the final 2 games and we might have a chance of going through, nothing has changed after tonight in any way really.

St Mirren players have been spending a lot of time in the gym looking at them.

We looked like wee boys…just kept bouncing off them…..

As said above midfield is poor.

Once Dow is back and DT back out wide where he is best we will improve….providing we sign a couple of real experienced good midfielders……No young up and coming loan signings either. We need players who know this league inside out.

Big strong box to box type goal scoring playmaker types……..easy eh ?

It's a narrow loss, away from home against a solid Premiership team that will have ambitions to finish in the top 6 this season.
Don't panic, when we get the signings in everything will click into place

St Mirren did indeed deserve to win, because we were nowhere near good enough to compete with them

I can’t help but think that the transfer (or not) of Nisbet is the sticking point in our lack of signings, it seems a bit like fingers crossed it happens so we can realise some money into the signing budget

Whilst we should be in no doubt that whatever comes on from KN moving on to better things it will be far, far short of the full amount however we can perhaps be better placed to sign a better quality of player if there is some boost to the war chest

The question is though when do we need to bite the bullet and say we can’t wait for that transfer to take place and go on and make the required signings

PG talks a good game about what we can achieve this year (so can everyone else)
Our game against Thistle on Saturday was a bit of a time buyer, the result papered over the inadequacy of the current squad

I’m not getting on the mans case after two games and his hands may be tied but waiting for something that may or may not happen could be disastrous

We competed OK early in the game and didn`t look in too much danger, despite not having much of the ball and not being a threat. Once St Mirren started to press us in our own half though, we were never really in it and never looked like coming back into the game.

I`m unconvinced about always looking to play out from the back. Last season, the failure of this, without an alternative to go to, was one of the factors that led to the slump. When you see a game like tonight`s when it clearly doesn`t work, there needs to be some other option. OK, these games are obviously being treated as semi-friendlies this year so it`s OK to try a few things but I`d like to see us look at an alternative as part of this, for when we need to use it during the season.

As others have said, not really a surprise that we struggled to compete with a decent looking side with the midfield we had out tonight. It was such a one sided game that it`s difficult to take much from it. The biggest positive thing for me is that we got plenty of practice at defending against good opposition and without the ball we did OK most of the time. Also, on the few occasions we did managed to get around their box, we looked to have some life about us.

I`d have liked us to be a bit more competitive but it`s just the way it is this year that this was asking a bit much with what we had available.

Again, I didn't see the game tonight so not going to comment on that but it is apparent we are playing a bit of a catch up in regards the squad compared to last couple of seasons.
We are pretty light in a couple of positions midfield being the obvious one. I am a hoping Wilson isn't a long term injury as he would improve things but regardless we are still at least two players short in there.

Awight Pat!

Did we ever replace the conditioning coach?

So if we win the next two games what's the chances of getting through on 9 points?

With only 3 best runners up going through it will definitely come down to GD, with 3-0 victories being given out for Covid hit games then we will need to score a few to make progress possible.

I actually think the 3-0 awards will help us.

In group C Forfar were awarded 3-0 win over Ross County. Forfar have since gained another 2 points with penalties win over Montrose. They should beat Brora but I expect them to lose to Dundee. They would then be on 8 points.
Ross County would need to win all remaining games to get 9 points and the 3-0 was against them.

In group G Stranraer were awarded 3-0 over Morton and have since lost to Clyde. With Killie and East Kilbride still to play I don't see them getting more than 6 points total.
Morton only achieved a penalties win over East Kilbride so can only get 8 points max plus 3-0 was against them.

The other game awarded 3-0 was St Mirren v Dumbarton. They might well have done better than that if they actually played. The only way it has a negative impact on us is if Partick beat St Mirren and we miss out on winning the group on goal difference. But like I say they may have done better so the 3-0 could potentially win us the group if Partick do somehow get a result against them.

Obviously there is the potential for more games to be effected with covid and 3-0 awards working against us but as it stands all the 3-0 awards are very much in our favour.

I don't think a team has ever not qualified with 9 points.

Just looked happened twice both with +1 goal difference.

The the loss of one runner up does make things slightly harder as it looks like there is reasonable potential for five groups to have a runner up on 9 points.

The thing that impressed me the most about St Mirren was the way 2 of the forwards where marking our defenders at bye kicks. We could not play the ball out from the back therefore OFW had to kick the ball long. I was impressed with this tactic, perhaps better teams than St Mirren will use it.

There are normal 4 runners up, this year there are only 3 due to the additional European football slot.
