I had just read it on COWS and was reduced to tears having lost my own Dad recently who was another huge Pars fan. My visit to EEP next week will be my first since he died so its going to be poignant.

Lovely well written story, my dad was groundsman in the Jock Stein era, when he passed away the club kindly allowed us to scatter his ashes in the centre circle .Still think he is there watching on a Saturday.

I was fortunate enough to attend a Scottish Cup final with my dad - it was 1968 and we beat Hearts in the final. That day is etched in my memory, I still have my match day programme and the whole thing is inextricably linked to being with my dad.
Fast forward to 2004 and I was back at a Scottish Cup final. This time I was accompanied by my then 15 year old daughter. Ok, we lost on that occasion and I had to contend with my daughter’s tears as well as my own intense disappointment.
These are the things that stay with you and it’s days like these that make our relationship with the Pars so special.
Wetherby, I hope very much that we get a positive result against Partick in honour of your dad.

It's a heart-warming and tear-jerking story, but there is something odd - the writer describes his dissertation on Club, Community and Coal now in the care of the Heritage Trust, but that dissertation was written by James Canavan, not Robert Westcott. I remember James coming to EEP, meeting Jim Leishman etc.

A lovely and an uplifting read, it resonates for me having lost my Father in law 5 years ago. A bluenose but spent many a day in East End Park or in an away ground as a result of me back home visiting and “dragging” him here there and everywhere to watch my beloved Pars. He even had the honour of being a guest of the club at Ibrox when we played Rangers. Ross invited him and drove him through to the game.

Stanza, I write for Nutmeg under a pseudonym and stuck with this name when the article was re-published on COWS. Due to my job I try to avoid my real name when I write, as I like to keep the two separate.
I genuinely appreciate all the kind words.

Emotional letter that brought tears to my eyes. I only get to East End Park when I come home from Australia every few years. I love going back to watch the Pars, and at the end of each game I always listen to Bluebell Polka and look over to where my dad used to stand when he watched his beloved Pars. The ground has changed a lot since he went to the games. He is no longer alive, but my memories will always be there.
Well written letter Robert Westcott, and thanks for sharing your memories.

Thanks for explaining, JRC (and TRBFC). I was beginning to think I was in a parallel universe!
Absolutely fabulous bit of writing - your dad would have been so proud.
