Power playing at La Liga.
Barca saying they cannot sign him and he wants to sign but cannot because of new la Liga rules. Interesting as similarly to spl the 2 top teams real and Barca don`t like the la Liga chairman. Yet I am desperate to see how this unfolds.
Do la Liga let One of the best player`s to grace Spanish football leave the league? it seems it is down to financial fair play. Which is great for other clubs but certainly not for Barca and Real who enjoy the lion share.
Only wish we had a league chairman with a set of balls to take the old firms grip on scottish football and create better financial fair play. Other teams would excel!!

Barcelona trying to deflect and blame la liga. They knew the rules were coming in and signed depay and aguero anyway.
Looks like they expected messi to leave at the end of his contract and gambled on replacements, or expected to offload Dembele an griezmann but haven’t managed to sell them. Leaving them stuck between a rock and a hard place from their own doing.

I can see a few of the Arab owners puting more money into the prem teams to sign Messi…… I say if he doesn’t go to PSG then it’s Man City or Chelsea…. 2 outsider teams would be Liverpool our Man Utd If they offer stupid wages.
I've read nothing to suggest that pool or Utd would be interested tbh.
Probably because of money right enough... Who wouldn't want Messi? lol
It's psg, man City, or Chelsea as far as I've read.
Or... Just maybe Barca will find a way to keep him.
This will be interesting.

I`d say there is zero chance his family will want to live in England so it`ll be PSG, an Italian team, back to Argentina or a last minute switcheroo back to Barcelona, he could easily play for nothing if he wanted to.
No chance he`ll sign for an English club. Zero chance. He can`t speak the language but more importantly, he and his family will not want anything to do with the English weather and culture.

However, he doesn’t fit our player profile, so it is a no from me and anyway not sure he would make the step up to Championship level.

That's my interpretation of it as well. They are pointing a gun at The La Liga authorities and attempting to get them to discard the rules so Messi stays in Spain. Obviously completely ignoring the fact they are spending obscene wages on players that have at best been underwhelming.
Their transfer business in general has been shocking over the last 6 or 7 years.

All the tears, what a farce. He could afford to play for free if he really wanted to stay. Even if he played for free he`d still be raking it in with sponsorship deals and whatnot.
He`s definitely went down in my estimations.

I read that he wasn`t allowed to take more than a 50% cut under Spanish employment law designed to prevent financial manipulation.

La liga wouldn't let him register even if he played for free. Their wage bill without Messi is currently 95% of turnover and La liga are denying Barca register any new players unless it's 70% or lower. Aguero, Depay etc are in exactly the same boat but don't let that stop you believing what you want I guess

Why should he play for free just because he is financially secure?
By the same logic, would that mean a pay cut as soon as someone has their mortgage paid off or a full ISA?

Why is the BBC news full of intimate details of the movements (not bowel thankfully but I wouldn`t be surprised) of Lionel Messi. Even football fans such as myself (OK Dunfermline to be fair) find the nauseating obsession with an aging player on the downward slope of his career excessive and inappropriate. Give me some real news or is this cheap drivel an attempt by this tax payer funded institution to hide it`s head in the sand and ignore the real issues that affect the human race worldwide?

It should be noted that Messi owes Barcelona far more than they owe him. If not for Barcelona providing him with the medical treatment that clubs in Argentina couldn`t or wouldn`t give him he may never have even been able to be a professional footballer.

What drivel. Messi has repaid that club hundreds of times over on the pitch and via bringing in revenue. The estimates are showing they expect to lose revenue of €137M over the next 2 years with him leaving

Nothing against Messi that I can think of Duarte but can`t understand why the BBC are giving so much time to one player who is from another country, changing teams. It`s really none of our business and blown out of all proportion considering it`s relative importance.

This is classic modern, social media where baseless, emotive reactions are given false equivalence with the truth.
My initial reaction was similar. "Well why don't you play for vastly reduced sums of money then wee man?" Perfectly reasonable reaction I think until the reality is pointed out. At which point the fully grown adult should modify his opinion with no harm done.

I`ve made an erse of myself, I`ll cry myself to sleep tonight at that thought. Actually I won`t, because I`m more bothered by real life issues, not what some stranger on the net says about me.
Real life me - thin skinned and emotionally drained due to various issues that I won`t discuss on here.
Online me + thick skinned and couldn`t give a toss about the make belive fantasy land of the Internet.
Anyway, when it comes down to it, I`m just bitter that he didn`t go and play in England, it would have been a treat to watch him every week. Instead he joins a decidedly average French league.
