 Roddy Georgeson
Topic Originator: Raymie the Legend

I was reading about a relatively young man called Roddy Georgeson from Newton grange, who sadly died over the weekend and wondered if he was related to his namesake that played for us in the 70’s?

The footballing Roddy also represented Penicuik and Bo’ness, so there could well be a link?

I recall Roddy being a decent striker in Harry Melrose’s team, who formed a good partnership with the late Ian Hall

I wondered about that too, Raymie. I see someone`s been arrested in connection with the death.

I googled Roddy the footballer and saw that he`s now 73 and I think the man who died was 41. It`s not that common a name so there could well be a connection. One curiosity was that was born in Egypt! He was a decent player at the level we were playing then.

Egypt was under British control until 1956. Not that surprising that someone British could have been born there in 1948.

I remember Roddy as quite a prolific striker at the lower level, so had mixed feelings when we signed him. I was convinced that he scored in a Friday night match at Meadowbank, when Mike Leonard scored a hat-trick, but I see the Pars Database has the scorer as Jim Bowie.

I note there has been no more said regarding the tragic incident, but I suspect there may well be a connection.
