Who’d take him back as manager?
He’s got the know-how to get the Pars promoted to the top league, albeit that was a quarter of a century ago.
His Arbroath team has been one that the Pars have struggled against in recent years. They are set up well and have a solid defence in the matches I’ve watched. They also take their chances.
Perhaps his experience could be what’s needed.

In a heart beat. Saying that though, I`d rather stick a jacket on a broom and stick that in the dug-out.

Worst shout to come out of today, if Dick Campbell was a managing Messiah he`d have been at a half decent level all his career. An effective but unremarkable manager who would not work under our setup with the Germans. Not the answer and never will be.

Total agree, they are well organised, defend well and attack in numbers.
I think we need to improve quickly to stay in the league.
He took Alloa down, points don`t lie particularly gaols against.
Arbroath players new their job defended for their lives and were proud to wear the shirt.
Bottom of the league is not a good place to be.
We have to start wining games and to be honest I don`t see us doing that any time soon.
As far as entertainment value goes I think we should be able to claim our money back

``An effective but unremarkable manager who would not work under our setup with the Germans``
Probably a fair assessment, but actually a level above our performances since the new owners took a stake in the club.

If we are happy to play in the Championship for the rest of time. Dick’s your man. Wouldn’t gain promotion.

Abroath get a huge benefit from the pitch and weather for home games although it’s about getting the best out of what you’ve got.
Wonder if Dick applied for the job but was not even interviewed only for the role only for it to be given to a guy who didn’t judge the club worthy of a CV.
Red flag should have been flying right there…

Stephen Constantine is available.
He was told he had the job before we hired Stephen Kenny and Jim Leishman didn't have the decency to let him know. He found out through the media.
That might be a sticking point as it was a disgraceful way to treat someone.
If we could persuade him it would be a great appointment.
He has a great track record with minor International teams and with smaller teams (Nea Salamis and Pafos) in Cyprus taking them to top 6 finishes.
His CV is available on his website.

Campbells side played us off the park today and not for the 1st time.
It’s shocking that a part time team that trains two evenings a week can be so far ahead of us tactically for the full 90mins.
I would take Campbell back in a heart beat but it seams that it’s not the way forward to employ a manager with tactical nous and gets his team performing above expectations.

100% I'd have dick back. Steady the ship. Grant is going to get us relegated and the board are going to facilitate it by giving him too long. They have a 100% track record in leaving it too late in taking action on mangers

I know from a good source that dick Campbell applied for the job but certain board members said they didn’t want him in charge, the same certain board members who are using the hospitality boxes to wine and dine their pals

So you’ve just identified, why no just come out and say so?
If you want change sometimes you have to just go for it and call it out. Don’t know the inner workings enough to know if it’s all true but there you go.

My issue is, that I read a lot of stuff on here that is all “in the know” nonsense.
Not everyone is as switched onto the inner stuff, and not everyone lives in the town!
If it is the case that some board members have outstayed their usefulness/welcome,
I’m sure the Germans will not be slow in weeding them out…!

I am sure the German investors will weed out the imposters and get rid.
We need to look forward and get rid of the historical interest that may be holding us back.

The "Dick Campbell was shafted by the board" argument is nonsense.
The board gave him serious financial backing as manager - he signed Coyle, Moss, Skinner, Dair etc plus Crawford on loan (from memory that`s £400k+ in transfer fees) and we still looked horrifically unbalanced. We were rubbish, and getting rid was the correct decision at the time.
However, I`m sure he would do a better job than Grant is currently doing, and if we are going to be at the wrong end of the table, it wouldn`t be the worst decision.

Would certainly have him over Grant, however Petrie would be ideal for the long term.

Walking back to the car after the game, we spoke to a group of Arbroath fans. They were surprised how easily they won the game. As quoted by one why did we go for Grant all he had done was to get Alloa relegated. Another one said that his group of fans were surprised that we didn't go for Stewart Petrie. From our chat, they new that we had signed a duffer and were totally surprised that he got the job without an interview.

This is not a job for Petrie at this point in time.
We need to get a manger in who has actually signed a full time player before. Neither Petrie or grant (in the last 10 years) had done that.
Things will be looking up……..now yogi is gone!

Dick Campbell will never return whilst McArthur is involved. Given his connections with Petrie, you can be fairly confident he would advise him to steer clear as well.

“ Then why did he apply?
Isn’t that just really unfair of you to say about Ross?”
He wanted to return. His talk with McArthur after applying has meant he has no intention of even discussing a return whilst he’s still there. Didn’t like the way he spoke to him at all. I’ve spoken to Dick through work and asked why he didn’t apply, he told me that he did and told me his side of the story. Not my story to tell, so I won’t. But he did say he won’t be returning to the club whilst McArthur is chairman.
Call it unfair all you want. It’s not me who has told Dick Campbell what to think of McArthur. It’s also not me who has told former players/staff what to think of him.

It is pretty desperate times. I think another couple of reverses like that and PG and his Tips will be looking at his P45.
I told my son who was very boisterous about our season that he needs to be prepared for a rough ride this year.
Planning, preparation and player appointments were rushed this year and it is coming home to roost now.
The very fact that when a team is in a rough spell you need to scrap for draws to gain confidence. Losing 3-0 against part time teams is a dreadful stat. The players and management need to now realise they are in a scrap and pull their socks up sharpish or these points we should be scrapping for will be given to our nearest relegation candidates.
