Was always a pretty no nonsense defender from what I've seen, surely we must have a defender leaving or perhaps Breen and Martin aren't anywhere close to being fit? Should hopefully bring a bit of experience and aggression to the back line

Perhaps Graham has been deemed as not being good enough?

Perhaps one of our centre halves has picked up an injury?

Perhaps PG feels he is better than what we have?

Take your pick

If that`s the case that`s a crying shame for Lewis. He has had a horrendous run of injuries/illnesses. He was our longest serving player. I have sponsored his shirt for years and met him a few times at end of season sponors events. A thoroughly likeable individual.

Very sorry to hear about Lewis Martin. Good luck to him.

Whenever I`ve seen Connolly in action for Dundee Utd he`s been an aggressive, no nonsense centre back which i`d welcome. Perhaps further evidence that PG has ditched his "playing from the back" style in favour of a more traditional approach to championship football.

Rhys [Breen] has had a bit of a nightmare,” said Grant. “He had ten days in isolation when he came back from America.
“Then, after the Rangers game, he felt a tweak on his hamstring while doing the post-match work. That just got progressively worse so he was out with that.

“As sure as fate, he then caught Covid and, just when he was ready to come back, one of his family members caught it — so he was out again.

“It was nearly a month back-to-back isolation for him!”
While the start of his Dunfermline career has been a disaster, Grant is hopeful he can get Breen back training with a couple of weeks as he looks forward to seeing the “top talent” show what he can do for the Pars
“Rhys is on his way back now and working hard,” continued Grant. “It has been unfortunate for him because he is a top talent — quick and strong and with experience of playing in this division [with Queen of the South] last year.
“Hopefully, we can get him back within the training group within the next couple of weeks.”

It`s not baffling if he`s better than what we already have. We`ve plenty of centre backs at the moment but they might not all be staying if they`re deemed not good enough.

Good signing. Brings leadership, appeared to be no nonsense, maybe will settle down defence and allow forward minded players to do what they do. A defender can also improve other areas.
Potential direct replacement for Murray.

Doesn't matter how long we have been pursuing him, we've got Watson, Gaspuitis, Graham, Breen, Jones, and potentially Martin, all going for two positions. We've now got 7, that's a disgraceful way to manage a playing budget.

If the news about Martin being away is true then we've got limited cover at Left back, we still don't have a defensive minded midfielder and we're struggling for body's out wide and up top.

So we get a central defender in on loan after we've kept two clean sheets. Absolutely fed up with the club and the way it's run, just squanders money absolutely everywhere and then will come out and bleed the fans dry, it's an absolute disgrace.

And once again, what is Thomas Meggles role at the club? Heralded as a board member who would help bridge the gap between knowing business and football, he seems to have been instrumental in the appointment of Grant, and has presided over the most lopsided and inbalanced squad building I've seen at the club.

Grant was saying he watched the Rovers game with Meggle, the thought that they'll have discussed this and Meggle has signed it off as a worthwhile use of funds is absolutely terrifying.

Mehmet has played 4 league games for us. "Beloved" is pushing it.

I`m guessing we might be looking to offload a player or two judging by this signing. Also, we`ve absolutely no idea what the terms of the loan are - we could be paying only a small proportion of his wages.

Why do you think that? If we get horsed 5-0 tonight and then pasted at Palmerston, I doubt the board are going to let him stay in a job just because we`ve got Mark Connolly for 3 months.

It`s more an indication that he`s better than other options at centre back. I`d be surprised if he starts tonight though - unless one of Watson or Gaspuitis are not available.

As I said they'll back the manager until they sack the manager. He's been asked for and is apparently within budget so he's here. The board are simply giving the manager the tools he believes he needs to do the job. Whether or not he succeeds is down to his decisions now

Thought he played quite well considering he has been out for a while.

Not sure he could have done much more at their goal but Aaron Comrie takes most of the blame for leaving Zanatta in acres of space as he did at least three times.

If you look at the header Connelly put wide, Comrie was close to him then inexplicably ran towards the centre as the cross came in leaving the smallest player they had with a free header. Bizarre decision by Comrie.

Maybe he thought that he was still playing in a three man central defence…?

Not impressed with Kennedy at all so far. Too many fancy tricks and enough end product.

Good pass for the goal tho to be fair

From Grants post match interview Watson is clearly not injured.

Yep, some kind of falling out.

Comrie wasn’t caught out for their goal, he was making a run fully expecting the pass, connelly went rogue with World Cup through ball and sold him down the river. He did well to get back and almost helped stop it. Comrie was sold out by Dow numerous times in that first half, I know dow is rusty but he’s not playing at championship level just now and is like a man down.

Connelly is just what we needed at the start of the season, we’d have way more points on the board if we had signed him rather than Graham.

I expected more from toddy last night, looked like a cart horse not helped by being isolated either.

Just sitting here drenched in my own negativity!

Where’s the comment that suggests that ?

Grant says “he’s just not available, as I say that I thought there was going to be a lot more of them “.
Doesn’t rule out injury for me.

Could it not be that Watson has Covid?

Have to say initially I thought he meant Covid but his response is a bit vague, which will always allow rumours to spread that they were rolling around the floor at training on Tuesday.

Another example of poor team management.

I remember at the time thinking that sounded like he wasn't particularly happy. The bit about COVID and the last few paragraphs about formation / team selection.

Might be reading too much into it....
