 Nick Walsh

Celtic fans are complaining that Nick Walsh (who redded Porteous at Ibrox at the w/e) is compromised as a ref because his day job (Deputy Head and PE Teacher at Boclair Academy, which has a partnership with Murray Park), means he is `coaching` Sevco`s next generation of players.

Legitimate concern or paranoia?

Paranoia.

I would agree. There is definitely a possibility this might lead to bias, whether subconsciously or consciously

So that partnership has been since 2016.

In 2020, there is a large thread I found on Google on follow follow which is eye bleeding reading, in summation Nick Walsh is according to Rangers fans a “massive poet” (i don’t know either, assume something about Catholicism).

This narrative only comes up when it suits those arguing. Don’t recall such vehemence when Mr Walsh Was refereeing games in the quadruple treble times.

If this is an issue then there are some other officials with certain positions who you’d think would have more of a conflict.

I'd never seen it before but it's definitely a conflict of interests. He's working for an organisation that has a commercial agreement with one the league's teams and then goes to referee games in the league including the team he works with. Teams involved aren't an issue for me, it absolutely is a conflict of interests.

And yeah there are plenty of other is Governance positions that shouldn't be there either. Part of the reason the structure of our game is poop.

Strange it has only been an issue since Celtic have started to lose matches. His job outside of football in a school has nothing at all to do with his job as a referee.
If your are lawyer and an existing player is a client of your outside employers are you allowed to referee their games. If your an architect and your company has helped design a stadium and so on.. absolutely only in Scottish football but it’s is not a surprise. If it’s not Celtic fans being idiots it’s Rangers fans.

You've worked in some places with different interpretations of conflicts of interests than me then.

I`m with LPF on this one - I think it`s a clear potential conflict of interest. And in most professional organisations a potential conflict of interest is sufficient to take remedial action.

It's Cellic paranoid thinking again ,to take the pressure of them being in mid table, always cheated never defeated.

He is the Head PE teacher of a school that has an arrangement to use Murray Park for their PE sessions which makes sense since the facility is very near Boclair Academy. It`s not the first time Rangers have shared with a local school, they did this with Kelvinside Academy when Murray Park was being built. He didn`t enter into that agreement himself and it has to be assumed that there is no crossover between school PE sessions and the training sessions of Rangers. The suggestion that he may be training up the next generation of Rangers players is not worth considering since there can be no feasible link there at all.

The only issue may be that he may have a personal preference for Rangers because of his day to day presence at Rangers training ground but that is pure speculation. No match official is beyond personal bias. That`s why VAR is the best thing that has happened to football in my lifetime. I only wish we had it in Scotland because Nick Walsh`s decision ruined the game and I guess DAFC have been on the receiving end of some bad decisions recently.

He is a PE teacher at a school that teaches kids from Murray Park. A little like Balerno High School in Edinburgh who teaches Hearts Academy Kids, any refs at that school? Or Celtic link with St Ninians? Any refs there?
It isn’t a new job, it’s cos Celtic looking for a conspiracy. There will be a Rangers version the morra, Willie Collum Who teaches religious education at a RC school, and his views are likely different from Rangers fanbase.

If that`s the case you would imagine the Murray Park Boys would be getting their training sessions from the football trainers at Murray Park and not a school PE teacher who doesn`t specialise in football training.

I thought it was a harsh red card but VAR would not have overturned it.

I love it when we go sell Kevin Nisbet,
He's gonna pay for everyone this season.

Willie Collum is far from popular with Celtic fans regardless of his religion and Catholic school teaching post.

Both sides of the Glasgow football divide give him grief, on and off the park.

As do other supporters !!

I didn`t think it was a foul, far less a red card...

Usual story, the Rangers player writhed about in agony for 5 minutes and pretended he got caught and the ref. fell for it. But the Hibs boy went sliding in with his studs up.

Hibs` appeal against the red card has been dismissed. Porteous misses their next two games against Dundee United and Aberdeen.

To be fair, they do have a point every so often...

I read about the fixtures complaint.

Pre split, Celtic are away twice to Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibs & Livingston
- that would be away twice to 4 out of 5 of the top half of last season, plus promoted Hearts.

Luck of the draw? Random ball drop?

That`s the problem with the ludicrous league system we have. It`s fundamentally not fair - luck will always come down on one side. Even if that luck falls randomly, it`s still not fair.

It`s why I think cricket is fundamentally flawed as a sport - the luck of winning the toss makes such a huge impact on the game. It shouldn`t.

10 teams, 4x each. Or 16-20 teams 2x each, I don`t mind which tbh, but it`s the only way to have a fair fixture list.

I would have thought "luck" is always a random concept.

You`re right, VEE. Clumsily phrased.

The point I was trying make was that this season Celtic have had shocking luck with their balance of home/away fixtures. Most likely that fixture list was randomly selected, within the selected parameters, with no bias involved.

However, because of the system we have, unbiased random selections can appear to be completely biased. And once that Pandora`s box is open it`s hard to put back.
